Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Belkin Mini Surge 3 Outlet Wall Mount with USB ChargerCustomer Review: Great features and good quality Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for home use so the size wasn't that big of a deal but it's also not that big if you need to travel with it. Keep in mind this is stictly 120V and not 220V compatible. What I liked about this product is the fact it doesn't have a wire dangling off of it yet it has 3 grounded and surge protected outlets along with two USB ports. The little green LED is cool too and the unit is stylish. This unit is perfect for supplementing your main surge protector when you run out of outlets which was my case. I didn't want to buy a 2nd large power strip/surge protector with a long wire attached because I didn't need that many outlets so this is perfect. This thing can also swivel 90 degrees so you can plug it into the wall vertically or horizontally.
Customer Review: Blew on first use... Summary: 2 Stars
I received this from Amazon today. Unboxed it, plugged into my wall socked in my home. Proceeded to plug in a Logitech diNovo Edge keyboard to charge. Worked fine. Then I plugged in a Plantronics 510 BT headset, *POP* it blew. Electrical smell everywhere. When it popped, I saw a bright flash inside the unit and the "Protected" light went out.
The manual said this happens when the unit sacrificed itself to protect the electronics plugged into it and to call Belkin for a free replacement.
Strange since I've used many power surge strips in this very outlet and all have been fine. Hopefully Belkin stands behind the product and replaces it free. I owned it for a total of 7 minutes before it blew. Kinda scary...
Customer Review: Not so mini. USB charger not compatible with iPhone! Summary: 3 Stars
I'm a little disappointed in this product. It's rather large for a "mini" power strip. It's more suited for slipping into your suitcase than a laptop bag. With the non-retractible plug, it's easily three inches thick. Also, the AC ports are normally spaced, so if you have a wide AC adaptor, you'll only have room for two outlets.
The biggest problem is that it won't properly recharge my iPhone 3G over USB. My phone freaks out every time I try to charge it with this strip. You know how the iPhone goes "bleep" when you start to charge it? Well it goes into charge and not charge mode about twice a second -- "bleep!" "bleep!" "bleep!" "bleep!" It charges my Samsung NV20HD digital camera over USB just fine, though.
Customer Review: Insufficient USB power output Summary: 2 Stars
I really like this thing, especially when traveling, where hotel power sockets and luggage space are at a premium. It's reasonably compact for what it does (though that could be improved), and the pivoting is essential.
It charges my iPhone 4G and 3G OK, but it won't charge my iPad (iPad just says "not charging". And my Sprint Overdrive 3G/4G flips out when I plug it in, squawking or rebooting constantly. If I plug in the OverDrive AND the iPhone, the iphone starts acting weird too.
All of this is regardless of whether anything is plugged into the AC sockets. I don't have a great way to measure but it seems like the voltages (or more likely, current) aren't in specification for USB.
Customer Review: Perfect for laptop users. Summary: 5 Stars
Although I don't recommend traveling with this guy, it comes in handy around the home or office. Here's how I use it:
1 USB port for the iPod
1 USB port for my Motorola cellphone (USB-miniUSB charging system)
1 Outlet for my Laptop
1 Outlet for my External Hard Drive
1 Outlet for a light or something.
You're probably wondering, does the surge protector work? YES, 2 surges pounded this poor little fella in the space of an hour. He's still working, without filing for workers comp.!
Travel is possible, but this guy takes a bit of room in bags, so don't be shocked if you cant fit as much in when you travel with him!
