Customer Review: Bulky, but still half the size of a standard surge protector

As an occasional business traveler, packing a surge protector is one of my frequent annoyances. They fit fine in my luggage, but not in my laptop bag, and I still have to carry chargers for my cell phone, phone earpiece, and iPod.
The Belkin 3OUT is the nearly perfect solution to this problem. It's about half the length of a traditional surge protector, and fits nicely in my laptop bag. It also allows me to carry two standard USB cords and charge my smaller mobile equipment. And the rotating plug base makes it easy to plug in and not interfere with other items using an adjacent socket.
Other reviews have rightly noted that it's a little bulky. The width and length are fine; it's the depth of the unit that makes it unwieldy -- it's 2 inches thick, plus another 1¼ inch for the plug and its base. But that's a minimal annoyance to get the portability, surge protection, and USB features.
Highly recommended for anyone who travels with their electronics.

It is fairly large, so I would say it's not very easy to travel with. However, it is very practical and usable at home and on the road. I have a two of these. When you are on the road and at the airport with only one outlet, you can use this to make a new friend and charge your devices at the same time.
Now a days there are notebooks that can charge your usb devices without the laptop being on, but they still don't charge as fast as directly plugging it to a wall outlet. This can be a replacement for all your travel AC adapters for your usb devices because all you need is the usb cable. Unfortunately for certain usb devices that require a lot of power, you can only plug one in at a time. Otherwise the unit protects itself by cutting power in and out, which ends up not charging anything.
This happens when I plug my blackberry usb to the unit.
I like being able to adjust the 3 prong outlet because it allows me to adjust to my surroundings.

Pros-
-Very convenient. It has 2 USB outlets and 3 regular grounded outlets
-USB outlets are great for my blackberry so i didn't have to carry an extra charger. And great for my Zune so i didn't have to buy a wall charger. I just use the usb sync cord that came with it to charge my Zune.
-lifetime warranty
-your expensive electronics are safe while charging. I trust it with my Zune, my blackberry and my Macbook. Hasn't failed me since.
Cons-
-Moving the prongs 360 degrees is a challenge. There's a button in the back that your supposed to press while turning the prongs. Well this doesnt it make it easier at all. What i do is turn the charger while the prongs are plugged into the outlet, it gives me the leverage to turn it. Although this is not recommended by the manufacturer.
-Spaces in between outlets are not designed for AC adapters.

I travel every week for work and usually have to scout out the few available outlets in the airports. This is handy because it gives you 3 outlets while leaving one of the wall outlets still available for another weary, electricity craving traveler to use. The USB ports are a great idea. I use it for my iPod, GPS and bluetooth headset, and it work just fine for all of those and saves me from carrying extra adapters. The fact that the plug rotates is a great feature, so it can fit many more places and not cover the other outlet. The only drawback is that it's quite chunky, and the prongs stick out even farther to make a big bulge in your computer bag. Foldable prongs would make this perfect. Well worth the twenty or so dollars I paid-but where did the alleged over a hundred dollar list price come from?Customer Review: Good for what it is designed to do

I own this product (was a gift to me from my spouse). Anyhow, it works great for the regular plugs. The thing about USB is there are different types, and some items overclock USB. It will not charge an overclocking device. Other than that, it works well for charging my cell phone through the USB charger. Everything else I own does the thing (proprietary enabling) of overclocking their product so that the USB charger cannot recognize the device.
This happens on computers a bit. If you buy a Saitek keyboard, it overclocks the USB, so only a Saitek mouse will work with it. That is not the only brand that does this, but an example.
So, items that are proprietary (game systems, etc) would probably not work charging from this charger. Mine don't.
