Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 7-Port Lighted HubCustomer Review: extremely flawed design Summary: 1 Stars
I just plugged in this device, so I don't know how well it actually works. I may not bother to find out, because the design is so poor as to be nearly worthless.
- The ac adapter is ridiculously large; bigger than that of my external hard drive, it completely blocks THREE ports on my power strip.
- The power cord is so short that the USB hub barely reaches the corner of my desktop, directly above the power strip.
- The cord that plugs the USB hub into my desktop is absurdly long, although that's easily dealt with. It's just irritating when the power cord is so short.
- The lights are very bright with no dimmer or on/off option.
Honestly, I'm surprised that so many people have given this device high ratings given these silly, thoughtless design flaws.
Customer Review: Very functional Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this model in black on Amazon, through Wal-Mart's external site, but I still consider it an Amazon purchase since I found it on here. It works where two others before it did not work although I still have to plug my keyboard and mouse into the tower for them to work properly. For cameras, mp3,etc, though, this rocks. I don't have to wallow on the floor with a hundred cords just to upload some pics or songs. Easy plug n play set up. The blue lights can be a little distracting if you are sensitive to light but I love this product. It arrived in 3 days and I am very happy with it. Way better than the flimsy model I bought at the store that didn't recognize my computer, and even with shipping this was only about eight bucks more. Excellent item.
Customer Review: A definite step up from my old Belkin 7-port hub! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had a different model Belkin 7-port hub for a few years now, and only just managed to abuse it too much. This new model feels much more sturdy than the old one did, despite having the new addition of lighting and external power. I have not tried to use this without the included power plug, so I'm not sure about how fast it is without it, but this is way faster than my old set-up was. And only slightly less mobile due to the extra power cable now. All in all, I'm very happy with this product, and even happier that I planned ahead and ordered more than one!
If you are at all in the market for a multi-port USB hub, There isn't much room to go wrong with this one, especially when a lot of the 4-port hubs cost the same!
Customer Review: Works Great Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this to plug several external Hard Drives into, and to make plugging in my iPod more convenient. I also use a portable HD that I carry with me with school information so I can easily plug it in and up/download information without searching for an empty USB port. It works great, was a simple plug and play operation and the blue light provides a pleasant night light in my home office. It gives off just enough light to let me get to my desk lamp without crashing into stuff or knocking things of my desk. The price was very reasonable, and much cheaper than local electronics stores like Best Buy. I takes up very little room with its tiny profile. As with all Amazon purchases, shipping was fast and easy.
Customer Review: Bright Blue LED's of Mephistopheles' Vengence Summary: 1 Stars
Functionally, this USB hub is fine. The power cord is short -- this is great if you want to toss it in your laptop bag and not have a snarl. Not so good in a desk-bound situation.
But you won't be buying this unit anyway.
The Bright Blue LED's of Vengence will keep you awake, even if you put the unit in another room. I tried covering my unit with cardboard and duct tape. This did not help. The Satanic Lights still shown forth with the power of Pure Evil.
To whoever in Belkin's marketing department that thought these LED's were a good idea: May Mephistopheles take your soul. Until then, I wish you weekly colonoscopies.
