It seems your laptop is very susceptible to heat damage. Without a device to elevate above the clothing, PJs, Pillows & Bedcovers where we all use our laptops we are putting our Laptop computers at risk. Clothing, Carpets, Sofas, & other materials block the vents which don't allow the internal fans to cool the laptop correctly. After 2 hardrive replacements, I asked what in the h*ll could cause this repeated problem? To my surprise it simply is overheating. Placing a Laptop on a soft surface does not maintain enough space between the feet of the Laptop and underside of the laptop. Anything less creates a diminished volume of air flow.
I have used a Belkin CushTop for one year with no problems. You don't need fancy extra fans or cooling plates which take away power from the computer through a port. Your power cord stuffs in the center. Pull it out when you need it. Where ever your laptop goes carry both together. For travel buy a bag large enough for both. Never operate your laptop without the CushTop unless you are placing it on a hard surface. I hope this helps.

I'm very happy with this product; I use it with my MacBook. It is lightweight, yet feels substantial enough for even my old (heavier) pc laptop. I find it very comfortable on my lap; no scratching or sharp corners. My laptop stays on the surface well -- not slippery at all. I especially like it's thickness and angle, as it brings the screen up to eye level for me. The only downside is that the keyboard is now a bit too high and I find my wrists resting on the edge of the computer, which causes minor discomfort. Heat-wise, it's perfect for my MacBook which doesn't have fans/vents on the bottom, so I can't comment on how well it would work with a vented pc.
I had a Lapinator; by comparison this is about the same weight but better construction. My Lapinator warped soon after I got it, and didn't raise the screen as high. I'd recommend the CushTop over the Lapinator, at least for MacBook owners.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that is prone to overheating. After years of using an old camera box to set it on for good circulation, I started looking for a stand for it. This was and is THE perfect answer. I ordered it, got it in 2 days, started using it yesterday. It keeps my laptop cool so it doesn't shut down from overheating , I'm now able to put my laptop on my lap instead of to the side on the cushion of my couch and it doubles, for me, as a "desktop" to do school work. I LOVE IT! I would highly recommend this for anyone who doesn't have a dedicated table to use their laptop on. So far, I haven't found any "cons" to this great little laptop stand. It exceeds all of my needs, and it can used for other things as well, such as a "tv tray" for dinner on the couch in front of the tv. Great item, great price...well worth the money. The only complaint I have is that I didn't find it a lot sooner!Customer Review: I LOVE IT!

I ordered this even though I was worried by the other reviews that list "too slick", "too big" or "not enough room to store things" as it's negatives. I really like it. I have an older 12" wide IBM thinkpad that's smaller than the cloth pad, but I don't have to flip it for size unless I prefer to. It's grippy and the laptop sits in place very sturdily! I can also fit my power thingy in it and the mouse for when I carry it from room to room. But what I really like (and didn't expect) is that while the computer is on my lap - previously precariously balanced while I'm in bed or lounging - it now sits sturdy and doesn't bounce while I type! And I don't have to constantly adjust the computer. It's very comfortable on my lap and it really does keep the laptop cooler than if it sits on any other fabric surface.
I like it so much, I would give it as a gift!

This works wonderfully for me since I use my laptop in bed ... raises the laptop to a nice height and I can put the cords through the 'storage' area', which is super for me since they are attached to the left side of my laptop and the plugs are on the right side. They could have made the storage opening large enough to hold 8 1/2 X 11 inch paper, but oh well, that was not my primary requirement, just a 'would have been nice to have'. Ordered another for my husband, since he uses his laptop on the coffee table ... AND got him that adorable little mouse trap (wish they made those in more color match combos). It also allows my dog to lie next to me without blocking the cooling vents on the side (ok, he's small - but has me well trained!!!!)
And, my laptop is 17", my husband's 15" ... so the option to use either side of the stand is nice for us!
