I've recently come to the laptop world after I had a PC crash for the zillionth time! I work from home so need to have what they refer to as a "home PC" so that we can look up websites, stay in touch with the "office", etc. throughout the day. So since we never know when we will need the internet the laptop has to stay on all day.
So after a 10 hour work day plus computer time after work for watching various shows on the internet (my TV also has died and I haven't replaced it yet) and visiting my various websites, the computer can be on for a good 18 hours until bedtime. And as you can imagine, the laptop would be HOT after that long of a day.
I finally ordered this and I LOVE IT! My computer stays cool all day and the fan is quiet so I'm not worrying about competing over fan noise while talking to customers or watching my favorite show.
I don't know how I missed the color selection I'll have to get another one in black to match my laptop :).

I usually don't write reviews but this one warrants a review from me because I don't think it's great a all. In fact, I hate this thing! Yes the fan definitely works, but it's not as noiseless as I would like. I had to periodically check whether if it was my laptop fan or the cooling pad making the noise because it was so loud. I do not like the design at all. The fan is in the middle of the cooling pad and although there are slits to prevent the fan from hitting your fingers, every time I lift up my laptop along with the pad, the fan would hit my fingers. Because the fan is made out of plastic, most of the time it was just an unpleasant shock. However, just this morning I've gotten two cuts on my fingers and I think it's very hazardous. Maybe I wasn't being careful enough when I lift the pad, but it's hard to keep reminding myself where I have to grab to avoid being hit.
I would not recommend this item if you would constantly move the cooling pad while it is plugged in.

Yes, this will cool your laptop, but - for how long?
A laptop is meant to allow mobility, flexibility, and let you get away from your desk. But this cooling pad is so fragile (aka cheaply and poorly made) that if it is handled with anything but kit gloves the fan will either get something caught in it or some part of it will bend and it will become so loud that you will not be able to use it. I have mine running right now because my laptop overheats so badly, but it is ridiculously loud...unless I hold it vertically, which, how the heck could i use it then?
This has happened to me with three different fans after 1-2 weeks of use. The only reason I buy them is because there are so few cooling options.
I guess if you plan to use your laptop as a desktop and never move it, it may last a little longer, but I would not reccomend this product to anyone else. Ever. And man, for 30 bucks, it's a huge ripoff. (I bought mine at retail outlets.)
Customer Review: New and Improved Model Makes it Perfect!

It appears that the bad things have all been fixed with this excellent cooler. It no longer has a weird glue smell. The usb cord storage door/stand is ratcheted so it will not close accidently and the usb cord is sturdy enough for daily use. Because it blows air the fan cannot be blocked and I suspect that this overworking of the fan motor has caused the problems that previous reviewers have faced. It has cooled my system to respectable levels even when maxing my gpu playing graphics intensive games. My system fan never has had this much time to itself to do other things like count the dust on itself and yell at the occasional spider to get out because the rotating sentry that once whirred constantly is taking a break. My 17" Asus G2sA1 is large but the pads grab and hold on tight. I love this cooler, and if your system seems a little too hot, get this cooler. The price is remarkable and it fits easily into my notebook backpack. What else... oh, very quiet and usb powered.Customer Review: I got the use of my old laptop back!

My laptop started to shut down everyday, several time a day, without warning. This went on for months. The screen would just go blank as if someone yanked out the battery. I tried almost everything - defraging, deleting files to free up the drive, used all sorts of software tools to tweak the system; nothing worked. I was gonna try reloading XP. I finally 'googled' the problem I was having and discovered the problem could be an over-heating laptop; it used to get pretty hot(even the mouse pad got burning hot!) I downloaded a free program called Notebook Hardware Control & found out my laptop was running at the danger threshold of almost 100 degrees C! I immediately went out & purchased this cooling pad. Since I've started to use it, there has not been one shut down episode - wow! Now my laptop stays cool, never exceeding 75C and thankfully I can enjoy the use of my old laptop again. One complaint - the adjustable leg should be redesigned for sturdiness. Good effort Belkin!
