I found out the hard way. This is a ADC (male) to DVI-D (female) adapter. DVI-D *DOES NOT* contain any analog data, nor holes for the 4 analog pins on the DVI-I or DVI-A connectors to even connect. (I think I saw this eluded to with regard to ViewSonic in another review.) What this means in plain English is:
* If you plan to use this cable to plug in a cheap $5 passive DVI to VGA adapter you're out of luck. The connector won't even fit, you need a $100+ *POWERED* DVI-D to VGA adapter to do the same job, and may be introducing noise into the system in the process.
* If you plan to connect to any device that uses the ANALOG signals on DVI-I you're out of luck.
* If you want to use a DVI-I cable, that you already own, to connect your DVI-D monitor to this adapter, you're still out of luck... you'll need to buy a new DVI-D cable, because the DVI-I connector won't fit.
So, this is a great connector if you're SURE you only need DVI-D... but totally incompatible with DVI-A or DVI-I cables/monitors/adapters. Product appears well built and durable, but no way to test with current hardware.
