Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Belkin Dual USB Car Charger for iPod (Black)Customer Review: The Belkin Dual USB Car Charger does the trick...! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this charger hoping it would give me the ability to charge both my iPod Nano and Motorola V950 Renegade phone simultaneously while I'm on the long hauls over the road. It plugged in snugly to my DC accessory output port and the blue light lit right up indicating it had power. Looked kinda cool in the dark too... When I plugged in the iPod adapter cable to the charger and my Nano it began charging immediately. I plugged the OEM Micro USB to Mini USB (SKN6252) adapter cable that I also purchased into the mini adapter cable (provided with the charger) then to my V950 Renegade phone and wha-lah...! It too began charging immediately as well... I left them both plugged in for about 30 minutes and had a full charge on both, all the while I was listening to the iPod in the background and talking on the phone simultaneously. The Belkin Dual Car Charger along with the Micro USB to Mini USB cable adapter specifically made for the Motorola V950 Renegade is a perfect combination for me. The total price was right for both items that I purchased at $25.48 shipping and handling included. A great buy, great quality, and very functional...
Customer Review: Good, but.... Summary: 4 Stars
I really have enjoyed a way to charge my Ipod and my mytouch 3g at the same time. What I don't like is the nice faint buzz I get when I hit the accelerator on my car. whats funny is it gets higher pitched as I go faster... (honda accord 2000)
other then that it charges my Ipod very fast. My mytouch 3g with its new GPS google maps feature was however a little disappointing. I Went on a long 14 hour trip and although it was charging my phone during the route, it couldn't keep up with the GPS displaying my route the whole way...it must have died 8 hours into the trip. I fixed that by on the long stretches just putting my phone to sleep (no display) and when I needed to make a turn it would turn on and say where I needed to go. I am fine with that but it would have been nice to have it always displaying my route.
why can't cars just have built in USB ports for charging??? not to mention a power socket would be nice also....even if a second battery is necessary, it doesn't need to be as big as the car battery but the car still gives it juice...
Customer Review: USB plugs (one 1,000mA, one 500mA). And devices requiring 700mA. Summary: 4 Stars
Have not tried both of the USB ports. Have used only the one labeled 'Quick Charge'; this i assume is the 1,000mA (1.0A) USB socket. Other reviews (of a newer, different Belkin charger) note a problem where, although the charger is rated at 1,000mA, the device only recognizes 500mA because of the cable being used. I don't know if this might be a problem with this device, as i've just now ordered (but not yet tried) a micro USB (B) cable, to be able to charger newer Blackberry and Peek devices. It chargers an iPhone (3GS) just fine.
I gather that the 1,000mA port should be fine for devices with 700mA wall chargers, since amperes are drawn, and so the device should draw only the required level (700mA) from the higher 1.0A socket (no more will be drawn then required, so the higher 1.0A will work perfectly fine with the 700mA device). Volts, contrariwise, are pushed.
I do not know if the 500mA will be sufficient to charge a device with a 700mA wall charger. Maybe this is why Belkin makes now the car charger with only the single 1,000mA USB socket.
Customer Review: Excellent Device Summary: 5 Stars
The Belkin Dual USB Car Charger works great with the iPhone 3, and 4. It comes with the standard Apple male 30-pin to USB connector cable, and a male Mini USB to male USB connector cable. Unlike some chargers, the Apple male 30-pin connector fits fine while using the OtterBox Defender case on my iPhone, with no modification necessary. The DC adapter has two USB ports, one for rapid charging and one for standard charging. This allows you to connect both USB cables at once. I use the rapid charge port for my iPhone, and the standard charge port w/ the mini USB cable for my bluetooth headset. Or, you can connect any other standard USB power charging cable to power other devices such as a friend or spouses cell phone charger, to power both at the same time. The device is small and not too bulky. Solid construction, not made of cheap plastic. The black finish makes a sleek add to any vehicle. I paid $10.99, and you won't find a better device for the price, although I believe the price may have even come down since. I couldn't have asked for a better device.
Customer Review: Works Well with iPod, iPhone and Other Cell Phones Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the Belkin USB car charger for an iPod Classic and a Verizon/LG eNV Touch cell phone. I was impressed that the Belkin charger would connect with almost every iPod from Apple. The charger comes with iPod/iPhone charging cable and mini-USB charging cable. I replaced the mini-USB cable with a micro-USB cable to connect/charge my eNV Touch cell phone (http://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-Cable-Micro-1-0m-Black/dp/B001QATRCA/ref=cm_cr-mr-title).
The charger is well built and makes a secure connection with the car 12V cigarette lighter/power socket. The charger cables also make a secure connection into the Belkin charger and the iPod/iPhone and eNV Touch cell phone. I have been using the Belkin charger for about six weeks with no problem whatsoever. When the Belkin charger blue light is ON, you can be sure your iPod or cell phone is charging.
The only minor complaint is that the blue light that indicates the charger is working is fairly bright when driving at night. Other than that, the Belkin charger is a winner!
