We recently had a 10-foot FireWire cable wear out (the connector at one end went bad) and chose this cable to replace it. We wanted a shorter cable, as we use it to download video from a video camera to a laptop, and they are usually sitting right next to each other. I was a little sceptical ordering this item as I had read another review that there was nothing on the packaging that said it was actually a Belkin product. The package I received was indeed without a doubt Belkin and it works great for transferring video to my laptop which is the reason it was purchased. I purchased this cable for connecting my Mini-DV camcorder to my laptop for capturing video. The cable works exactly as advertised. Furthermore, it is not flimsy, and has a durable shield around the cable, protecting it from wear and tear. The price is great at $9. Highly recommended. I used this cable to connect my camcorder's DV out (Firewire) port to my DVD recorder's DV in port. It should work with any Sony camcorder that's iLink capable. I don't know about other brands.
