Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of PCD Basics Fiber Optic Audio Cable - 6ft (1.8M)

Customer Review: Impossible to beat for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

I've ordered four of these in the last few months, and have spent barely half of how much I would have spent if I had purchased it from a certain MONSTER cable company.

Not much to say, they work well, are of surprisingly high quality for their price. (I had low expectations) I'm using them for a Bluray, Cable box, DVD player, and Xbox 360 and have had zero problems.

I purchased the bulk of these from Eforcity, although I got a few from Vortex as well. They showed up in nice plastic baggies, and seemed well packed. I'd recommend both of the vendors for their fast shipping.

Bottom line: cheap, good quality, gets the job done.

Customer Review: Perfect on my system
Summary: 5 Stars

This cable has worked great for me. I use it to connect my HDTV to my stereo and my Playstation 2 to my stereo. Previously, I've always used coaxial digital audio (DVR to stereo and CD player to stereo). The TV and PS2 don't support coaxial, only optical, so I had to go with this cable.

The cable works perfectly. Much, much better than the far pricier alternative. I've had no issues. Since you're moving digital, quality of the cable is irrelevant. So long as the light can make it, you're good to go. Optical is superior to coaxial here, because there's no potential for RFI/magnetic interference, so the quality of the cable is even less relevant.

Customer Review: Worked great...for a while.
Summary: 2 Stars

The cable arrived quickly and felt very high quality. It bends more easily and at a greater angle than most optical cables, which perplexed me since I'd read that fiber optic cables stop working if bent (see "numerical aperture").

In any case I installed it and it worked perfectly for about 6 months. One day I was moving things around, unplugged the cable, plugged it in a few minutes later, and...my receiver gave an error indicating it couldn't understand the signal. I plugged in another cable and it worked fine. So a word to the wise: if you get this, curl it in a relatively big 6" loop so you won't end up with the same problem I did!

Customer Review: Great bargain, works flawlessly
Summary: 3 Stars

Update to my review below: This cable is great, what is terrible is my cable box. After setting the audio output to Digital, it defaulted back to HDMI and the result was the unimpressive quality I noted before. When I can get the box to stay set to Digital (it has a mind of it's own) the quality is fantastic.

Although the ends did 'click' into my Samsung TV and surround sound unit, the connection was still a little loose which worried me at first. Luckily, the volume range was actually reduced so drastically that I ended up going back to my component cables in the end. For the price it's definitely worth a try, but results may vary.

Customer Review: Don't be fooled by those "Monster Cables"
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought 3 of these, in case that one did not work, as I was weary because of their price. All 3 worked, which is great! As an IT tech, these cables are a no-brainer to purchase compared to those outrageously priced monster cables, in which most of the price is advertising. Digital signals are sent in series of 1's or 0's and it's black and white concerning quality sound (either the reciever gets them or not) so sound quality transfer is not an issue. This is different from analog signals, in which fluxuations in freq. dictate the sound you get. For the price of one monster cable, you could buy 100 or more of these and be a whole lot happier!
