Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of PCD Basics Fiber Optic Audio Cable - 6ft (1.8M)

Customer Review: Poor Connection
Summary: 1 Stars

While you don't need to spend very much on optical cables, this one is really quite poorly made. The connectors are too small and pretty much fall out of my xbox 360 and receiver. This loose connection causes sound to pop out for a split second occasionally. I have no idea why everyone here isn't having this problem. I must have gotten a cable from a bad batch.

edit: I threw this cable in the trash since I didn't want to have to deal with some elaborate silly putty scheme to keep it in place while messing with my cables and went ahead an ordered the amazon brand version of this cable (AmazonBasics Toslink Digital Audio Optical Cable (6 Feet/1.8 Meters)). It was more than worth the extra dollar or two and the connectors fit perfectly and snap into place.

Customer Review: It does what it's supposed to do
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a good cable, nothing fancy and yes, it is flimsy and think, but so is fiber optic. That is precisely the beauty of FO, you only need to take the bits from one side to the other, no fancy gold connectors or think shielding. Don't spend more than you have to, this cable will do the same work as the $30 cable, you won't notice any difference because there is none.

Two negative comments: one side of the cable was a little hard to fit into the DVR, not a perfect fit, but it just took 5 extra seconds, and it then it connected perfectly, i guess the have a little higher tolerances for the plastic case, but hey it's $2! Also, with the other cables I own, the little plastic caps that protect the fiber-optic are attached to the cable, you cannot lose them. Not the case here, it comes protected but once taken off, it's yours to store and lose.

Customer Review: Great deal on a toslink cable
Summary: 4 Stars

Disclaimer: This is my first toslink cable purchased and I have only had it for about 2 days.

Item came as promised. $3 for the cable, shipped, is definitely reasonable. The cable was used to connect the TV to a home theater system and delivered surround sound as it was supposed to. It also worked well in connecting an XBox 360 to the home theater system. I actually just purchased another one so I don't have to switch out cables. Since shipping was free, I thought I would buy them 1 at a time to test it out before buying the second.

The only downside to the cable was that it snaps in too tight and it is a little hard to pull out the cable. You almost feel like just pulling it from the cable but if I did that, it probably wouldn't last too long. If you are not moving any cables around, then it shouldn't be a problem.

Customer Review: For a bit over 2 dollars this is a great value
Summary: 5 Stars

I put 4 photos in the pics showing the detail of the connector quality. For a two dollar ish cable it offers 100% compatibility with my pc's toslink output and my toslink optical to rca output converter's input jack. The cost of this fiber (really a lightpipe - fiber optics are usually very precise 62.5/125 micron glass fibers - much smaller than the lightpipe size used in toslink) and 2 connectors is great - it arrived on a saturday by us mail in an envelope marked do not bend with extra postage.

Overall I'm very happy with this cable - I've used it at 192 khz, 24 bit, 2 channel output from my pc and into my marantz PMD-661Marantz PMD661 Portable SD Recorder

Cables should be priced reasonably, and this is very reasonable.

Customer Review: It Matters From Whom You Order This Cable
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this toslink cable from Abacus24-7 and received the exact cable pictured and described on this page. The 6' long cable I received has the heavy 5.0 mm jacket and the two connected end caps as shown. The heavy jacket has a very sturdy feel and nicely protects the inner fiber optic cable.

As pointed out by other reviewers, when purchasing items via third party sellers, the shipping charges apply to each item ordered, so (at the time of this writing), each cable from Abacus24-7 really costs ($1.40 + $2.95 shipping) for a total of $4.35. Still, at $4.35 per cable, this is a great bargain.

The performance of the cable is exactly like one would expect from a quality toslink cable.

I plan to purchase two more to replace some other toslink cables which do not have the heavy jacket like this one.
