Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of PCD Basics Fiber Optic Audio Cable - 6ft (1.8M)Customer Review: Identical to higher priced ripoffs by Monster and the like Summary: 5 Stars
As stated in other reviews, bits are bits. If they get from one system component to another, you're doing just as well with a $5 cable as a $60 one. Monster and other companies are ripping consumers off with gobbledeygook buzzwords designed to obscure the mind and open the pocketbook.
I have installed this cable in my system, and its performance delivering 5.1 channel audio and DTS from my PS3 to my receiver is flawless. It performs identically to the other more expensive optical cable I have.
As of my last check of this product page, $1.31 as a list price and $2.98 for shipping makes for a total of $4.29. This is an outrageously good deal, beating even many other discount outlets. If you have a receiver that uses optical digital for audio input (as opposed to HDMI, which most newer receivers utilize), you simply can't go wrong. A definite must-buy at this price.
Customer Review: Good boom for the buck Summary: 5 Stars
Well, to start, I'll say that I never used a SPDIF cable/Toslink cable before, but am very impressed with the results I now have (one going from my computer to my surround system, the other from my TV to the system). This cable seems to be doing its job perfectly, and as a bonus, no RF interference on the visible-light connection. The cable does feel like it could be beefed up some, but as I'm a first-time user now, maybe that's the way optical cables are (quite thin). As for the price, I really can't complain at all: $0.01, with only a few dollars shipping. It arrived pretty quickly, without any problems.
It took some time figuring out how to setup my TV, computer, and surround system, for use with the cable, but that was to be expected, and is unrelated to the product itself.
Anyway, I'd recommend this product for anyone looking for a cheap TosLink cable.
Customer Review: Great price, but connectors won't fit Summary: 1 Stars
A TOSLink cable for cheap with prime shipping, that sounded promising.
Some people complained the connectors are too loose, I seem to have the reverse issue: the connectors won't fit, either on the Panasonic TV or in the expensive audio receiver.
I tried an old Sony TOSLink cable and it snaps in just fine (it's unfortunately too short for my setup), so it's not the TV or the receiver. By looking carefully, I see that this cable's connectors are just half a millimeter wider on one side than the Sony's.
And yes I removed the little rubber protections on both ends of the cable ;-)
Well let's see if the AmazonBasics Toslink Cable connectors fit correctly. (Update: just received it; it fits perfectly. The connectors snap in place with no effort and are not loose.)
Customer Review: Works great. Unbelievable price. Minor connector issue Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased two cables, one for my Tivo HD to Onkyo receiver and the other for my Panasonic Blue Ray to Onkyo receiver. The connector did not want to stay in the Tivo optical port. I realized that the rubber body on the outside of the cable connector was to fat to fit into the recessed receptacle. It was hitting the square cut-out on the frame of the Tivo. After carefully shaving the outer casing of the connector with a razor blade, the cable pushed in far enough to make the proper connection and click in place. Both cables then worked great. Unlike analog signals, a digital signal either works or it doesn't. There is no such thing as a inferior cable introducing noise and degrading the picture. These cables work, period. If I spent lots of money for the cables, I would rate this lower because of the modification I needed to make, but getting two cables for less than $2, wow.
Customer Review: Generic Toslink Optical Cable Summary: 5 Stars
Our home A/V system has multiple Toslink Optical ports all in a row. So, I spent nearly $30 for a "monster style" optical "cable" with BIG plastic ends. Plug this thing in, and it almost covers the Optical ports on either side of it! With this $30 "fat cable", and its BIG plastic end, I lose at least one precious Optical port!
We needed Optical "cables" with smaller molded ends so I could line-them-up in the A/V system! Now, we got exactly what was in the picture for just over $2 each! NO shipping charge! How can they do that? The "cables" were here 4-days later! They were perfect - plug into the row just fine!
How do they work? Exactly like the $30 "cable"! A 6-foot piece of fiber optic cable is a piece of fiber optic cable! As for the molded ends, they're supposedly all standard. These "clicked-in" like they're supposed to. NO complaints!
