Customer Review: On Second Thought...

EDIT: I have attempted to use this product for months, to no further avail. They worked right out of the box, but I can no longer put up with the flaky performance. They might work one day, but not the next. Better yet, they might work for half of a movie then suddenly cease to function. I have purchased the product found here:

It works wonderfully, and, although it's a bit more costly, it's still nowhere near the price of a store-bought Apple device.
NEW REVIEW
I'm no noob when it comes to these types of devices, so don't lecture me on settings. I have reviewed them thoroughly and tried multiple unorthodox settings, all of which failed. The problem is this hardware, without a doubt, since my settings worked immediately and permanently with the new cables I purchased.
The price for these cables is extremely indicative of the construction quality and functionality. I wrote my older review when they were fresh out of the box (and somehow managed to work for about 20 minutes), but I feel obligated to return and say that these cables suck and do not function on any iPod with the lockout chip. How do I know? They work on my old iPod without it, but not the new one. Same settings and everything. Best I can figure, it's got some sort of shoddy lockout chip bypass that has to fit *perfectly* into the base of the iPod to work, which means you might sit there for 10 minutes trying to put it in juuuuuust right to get it to work, after which a slight movement (and often, no movement at all) will cause it to lose connection. Suck.
People, do not buy this product. I didn't attempt to contact customer service or return it, because I held on to hope for the first few weeks that maybe I could figure something out. Can't be done. $5 just isn't worth going through support, sending it back, etc. Maybe that's the business model here. Oh well.
OLD REVIEW
After receiving a new 160 GB iPod, I was disappointed to find my old AV cables that plugged into the headphone jack no longer worked, and the search began again for a cheap alternative to the in-store $40 cables at name brand retailers. I came across this product and figured trying them out was worth $6. Turns out, they work just fine! Plugged it in (my only complaint is that the base is a bit bulky, but it still fits underneath my iPod's case), made sure the settings were how I wanted them, and it switched right on! I also tried with my girlfriend's iPod, which is the first generation that has the "Classic" name, and it works on hers as well. If you're having trouble, I'm willing to bet it's with your settings.
Great product, great price. Ordering another one right now for the girlfriend.
