Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Bose SoundDock digital music system for iPod (Black)Customer Review: Not just for Ipod brand MP3 players Summary: 4 Stars
Fantastic sound, especially the bass. Blew away all the others that I listened to in the store by far. Price is high, so shop around. You also need to consider what you're going to put it in if you plan to schlep it around. I've tried several zip-up canvas bags I had around the house, but they don;t cut it. Guess I'm going to have to spring for the Bose carrying case.
I don't have an IPOD, so I use it with my other-brand MP3 player. Just needed a $3 cord from Ace hardware. Used the same cord to use as external speaker for my laptop. No problem.
Turned my laptop into the biggest MP3 player ever. No worries about filling up my portable MP3.
Customer Review: High Priced Brick Summary: 1 Stars
My sounddock failed shortly after it went out of warranty. The remote does not control it, the speaker doesn't work and it can only be used to recharge ipods. I called Bose technical support and they offered. to repair it ($99 + shipping) or to upgrade it to a more expensive model. They said my problem is unique. I declined their "generous" offer to repair it or replace it. I'll donate it to Goodwill instead.
For such a pricey item, it should have lasted longer. Planned obsolescence/failure was possibly engineered into this product as it was very gently used and an act of God didn't result in its premature demise!
Customer Review: Great system - could use 1 feature Summary: 4 Stars
Perfect for a bbq or hanging out by the pool.
Pluses:
- Amazing sound. This little thing sounds as good as many large stereo systems.
- Very hardy. We've left it outside for a few days at a time in 100+ degree direct sun, foggy nights and it still works as good as new.
The only thing I wish was different is the volume control. The devices volume control is completely separate from the iPod's and there is no display of the Bose's volume setting. We have a logitech dock that works off the iPod's volume setting and displays it in a lcd display so you only have to adjust one thing and it's displayed.
Customer Review: Big Music from a small package Summary: 5 Stars
I have a complete Home Theater System (HTS) in my grand room (14' ceiling) including an ipod dock for my tuner, but I did not want to crank up the whole system to listen to music by myself. I bought the Bose SoundDock for this reason, and it has accomplished this in grand style. The sound quality actually rivals my HTS, and believe me I have a top notch HTS. My HTS has pairs of speakers located thoughout the house, but the SoundDock carries into the other rooms with the same high quality sound. I am very happy with the Bose SoudDock and highly recommend it to anyone considering puchasing an ipod docking system.
Customer Review: Solid Sound but Weak Physically Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this because of the great sound. My only issues with it are physical in nature. First of all, you have to have the remote to control it which is a pain. If they want to make the remote mandatory then there should be a slot to store it. Mobility is an issue because you have to remember to bring two items with you, three if you count the power supply. Secondly, the hidden tray that docks the ipod is flimsy and can probably be easily broken off if not careful.
But as far as sound goes you can't beat it and if sound is your main criteria then this is definitely a unit you should get.
