Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Bose SoundDock digital music system for iPod (Black)Customer Review: Great Sound at a price, with one major design flaw Summary: 4 Stars
Pros:
Great sounding speakers with plenty of power to fill a room. Excellent Bass & Treble response. The best I've heard for its compact size and small footprint.
Cons:
1.) The SoundDock uses an external transformer. You have 13 feet of power cables to tuck away. Five feet of cable from the wall outlet to the converter (which is 4.5"x2.5"x1.5") and another 8 feet of cable to the SoundDock. It's not as neat or convenient as it should be, were the converter built into the unit. For a Bose designed product, this is a major fault if you want to use it on a countertop in a kitchen environment. It also makes the SoundDock a bit less "portable" for anyone who would like to move it between the Kitchen, Patio, Bedroom or Family Room.
2.) No external input for a second audio source.
3.) The price. In additon to that, Bose products are never discounted and always seem to have the same price no matter where you shop. (So are Apple products for that matter, how is that NOT some kind of price collusion?)
Overall I couldn't be happier with the sound, but that happiness comes at a price.
Customer Review: Compact, and very good sound quality Summary: 5 Stars
Overall I like this digital music system. The quality of sound is very good for a compact stereo system. I don't know how to describe the quality, but I can only tell you I tried it out at a store, loved it, and bought it right away.
There are a few things I want to point out:
1. I hope it would indicate the current volume setting somewhere (maybe a simple digital display). Sometimes the volume was set too high previously and it gave me a "surprise" when I played a song. For a $300 device I'd think they would support a simple feature like that.
2. By default iTune import CD music using 128 kbps. At first I was wondering why audio from my SoundDock was not as good as I expected, and after I re-imported all my songs using 256 kbps, it sounded much better.
3. If I turn off my SoundDock but leave the iPod there, there is some white noise coming out from the speakers. It's not loud and I won't be able to hear it unless I stand right in front of it, but still it is a bit distracting. So now I always remove my iPod after using it.
Customer Review: There is a difference!!!The Sound is INCREDIBLE!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I have done TONS of research on docking stations and based on ALOT of things I purchased an Athena Ivoice. I absolutely loved it and listened to it everyday. I listen to everything ranging from opera to classical to jazz to hip-hop to heavy metal to country. My 2yr. old broke my Ivoice and I went to buy another one and they were all out so I splurged and bought a Bose SoundDock. OH MY GOSH ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I almost cried. I honestly had no idea music could sound so good. You will be blown away by this system I promise you. I origionally had my ivoice in the kitchen and my mom moved it to the living room AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE. You need to place ANY docking station in a spot that will allow for optimum performance. (Sound bounces off some things and is absorbed by others). Anyone who has less than 5 stars on this item has it positioned by something metal, etc...or they have poorly recorded music which I think would still sound good on this system. YOU WILL NOT REGRET THIS PURCHASE!!! Thank You Bose for another premium quality item.
Customer Review: Great design, but a major flaw Summary: 2 Stars
I really wanted to like this product. I have been waiting a long time to buy it, and finally decided to spend the money on this system instead of an "economy" model. I have no complaints about the music sound... it lives up to the Bose name and the hype in that regard... very big sound from a very small speaker. But, one MAJOR issue is a hissing noise that the dock makes when it is off. I bought the dock for my bedroom, which is quiet, and whenever the dock is off and the ipod inside it, a very annoying high-pitch hissing sound emanates from the speaker. It almost sounds like crickets. I called Bose support, which was pretty responsive, and they did have information confirming that this noise is normal, which surprised me coming from a company that prides itself on superior sound. I thought that such aural nuisances would not be acceptable in their products. If you plan to put this system in a somewhat-loud room, it will probably work for you, but if your situation is more like mine, I don't recommend it at all.
Customer Review: BOSE Sound Dock Summary: 5 Stars
As with anything else, technology is constantly changing. I purchased the BOSE Sound Dock back in January of 2008 and since then they have come out with an improved model. However, my review will be on the BOSE system featured.
I enjoy my music and for that right, I use premium equipment in my home & auto. I chose the BOSE sound dock to go in the bedroom so that I could play my IPOD whether I was getting dressed or undressed. Here are my findings....the BOSE system has great sounding speakers with plenty of power to fill a room. It has excellent Bass & Treble output and after reviewing several similar models, the BOSE Sound Dock was the best I'd heard for its compact size. In reference to the price, Bose products are never discounted and always seem to have the same price no matter where you shop. So if you are planning on purchasing this item just know you are getting what you pay for. Overall, I could not be happier with the sound or the quality of the product. I hope this helps. YMMV....NEOSOUL06
