Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Bose SoundDock digital music system for iPod (Black)Customer Review: SWEET!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I love music and sing very often, mainly in churches around the state. I normally use a microphone mixer, 2 15" Yamaha speakers (with speaker stands), a special dock for my iPhone, sound monitor and all the speaker wires. The complete set up costs slightly over one thousand dollars and takes a lot of time and energy to set up. Sometimes, the churches are so small that there is little to no room for all the equipment.
I heard how great this system is by a music minister that uses a Bose system in his church that seats 3oo people with no other sound support besides the pulpit microphone.
The first time I used the system was in a church that sits 120 people. The Bose system easily filled up the whole room with pure smooth sound while the Bose system was behind me standing in front of the pulpit. The only complaint that i received from the Bose system was that it was too loud, and that complaint only came from one person.
Using this Bose system has made performing so much easier for me. I wne from needing a truck bed full of equipment that was heavy and took 30 minutes or more to set up to having a system complete in a small little bag. No need to worry about finding a place to plug in the sound system because of the rechargeable battery that comes with the system. I no longer need a crew of three for set up and an extra person to run the microphone mixer. I just put the songs in order on my I phone, press play and pause between songs. No coordinating between myself and the person running the sound system.
Sound quality from this little device is totally surprising. A nice complete balance for what I need a system.
This Bose system will not completely remove the need for the other system that I mentioned earlier but for what I need the Bose for, it will fill the need for most of my singing venues.
Oh, the Bose system sounds good in the house too.
Customer Review: Great sound if your like Classical and Jazz Summary: 4 Stars
My best friend has these speakers and I looked at them seriously. I was considering buying an iPod and she let me borrow her Ipod and speakers.
My best-friend loves jazz and classical but my musical tastes are wider in range. Bose speakers from what I have found work great if the music you listen to does not have heavy bass; so if you listen to hip-hop, heavy metal and rock with heavy bass they are not so great.
I also have a good friend who sells upper-end cars and he told me that the dealership requires that they demonstrate the Bose speakers using classical and traditional jazz because the speakers sound better and more buyers purchase the Bose speakers when this music is used during the test drive.
I finally settled on the JBL - On Stage II - Speaker and Docking Station -it works with iPod and other Mp3 players, also has a remote, and is designed to meet my needs; the sound quality is excellent and the speakers pick up the nuance and subtlety of Jazz and the heavy bass in rock and hip-hop and the speakers sound great loud.
From my experience with this unit (borrowed for two weeks) it looks nice, has a remote control, it is easy to set-up, sounds great if you listen to music without a lot of bass, it sounds best when playing classical and jazz. If this meets your needs and you can afford it this is a great choice.
P.S. - I tested both speakers on the following albums Miles Davis Kind of Blue, Sarah Vaugh Live at Mister Kelley's, Prince 3121, The Miseducation of Lauren Hill, Common Finding Forever and Playwutchyalike: The Best of Digital Underground; I need speakers that can pick up the subtlety of jazz and sound good at higher volumes and stand up to pounding bass. This Bose unit is a fine choice if it meets your needs, good luck in your search.
Customer Review: pricey, but ultimatly worth it. Summary: 5 Stars
volumes could be written about how overhyped and overpriced bose products are , but the 2 items i have purchased, the ipod in ear head phones, and this dock system have been far better than i hoped, the sound field is large and spacious, and the bass is deep and authentic, in particular acoustic jazz really sparkles on this device. and it can handle the new metallica album "death magnetic as well, but man is that album recorded too loud or what. with no equalization to be found on the device or on my ipod, it never seems to need it, everything is perfect, on some music that had a poorly miked bass such as wayne shorter's "speak no evil" album i just set the ipod to extra bass and it does provide just enough low end to satisfy. granted this will not replace your mega bucks surround system, but for the bedroom , the bathroom and an apartment where you cant raise the roof anyway this is worth the money. ive been listening to this 2 or 3 hours a day for 2 weeks and i have said to myself, "i think i like the sound on this better than my 2000 dollar system " it really is amazing how such full sound comes out of such a small set of speakers. the remote is handy, but your not going to be scrolling on it, only play, pause and next track, but if you've set up lenghthy playlist your set for hours any way , one thing i did was set it a the other end o a room at least 20 feet away at about ear level and turn out the lights, you will be amazed how the sound fills up the room. i wish i could have paid 75 dollars less for it, but i am very pleased with the purchase, also those earbuds are by far the best 100 dollar ipod headphones i have ever heard,[more than enough bass] im sure sennheiser probably makes better, but probably 200 dollars more.
Customer Review: Hi Fidelity Sound Jukebox! Summary: 5 Stars
I am new to the iPod "lifestyle". Man, talking about a lot of peripherals one can use with the iPod. I have the new 80 GB video unit. I have a Kensington docking station hooked up to my stereo system with a Yamaha receiver and Definitive Technology surround speakers and I believe this system rivals it in a compact way. The Bose system is for those wanting hi fidelity sound from a compact, simple, modern unit. No, you cannot hook up anything else to this unit, buy why would you? The power cord is a two part unit, bulky in some respects but hey, this unit requires power in order to give you its great sound. As for the sound, I believe it covers the lows, mids, highs very accurately. I listen to everything from classical to techno to rock and it sounds great. Clarity is outstanding (simply, listen to the breathing that vocals require and you will actually hear them clearly). Not to mention with the volumn turned up... way up... there is very little if any distortion. Another way I value something like this is pick it up, its weight is heavy which in my opinion equals sound construction and longevity. As for other systems, Altec Lansing etc. (listened to as well) they are less expensive but why? Turn their volumns up and find out the difference. Compare and contrast as I did and make your decision based on want/need. So, if you are wanting... needing a great sounding "hi fidelity jukebox", cool style, worthy of any room in the house, then this is your ticket to a personalized concert. Also plan on having it for while, because I believe its style and construction will outlast any other "trendy" unit this system is compared to which also means a great value over the long term.
Customer Review: Accurate Sound Summary: 4 Stars
This thing works great, and sounds great! Bose isn't kidding when they say they make music sound the way it is supposed to sound. Everything that comes out of these speakers is rich and full and you can hear all different ranges of the spectrum and nuances in the music. For example when listening to Jack Johnson, I can hear everything in the song equally well - the lows of the beat, the mids of his voice and the highs of the symbols or even when he runs his fingers up the strings of the guitar. Bose also has some way of not making things distort - everything sounds the same when it is turned way down as it does when it is turned way up. I also love the remote. Many sound docks don't offer this and I can't imagine not being able to advance to the next song or turn up the volume without getting up out of my lazy-boy chair. The only reason why I gave this thing 4 stars instead of 5 is because at this price point one can probably find some in-the-box component system that can be hooked up to an iPod and provide much louder music that would be more adequate to play, say, at a large party with a crowd that likes heavier rock or techno music. This would definitely fall short in such a setting, however you have to remember that at its size, such a comparison would be like comparing apples to oranges. Speaking of its size, overall I love the quality of sound that comes out of something this small. It definitely packs a lot of punch. Bass is always there when it's supposed to be and sound reproduction is accurate. Definitely a good buy, esp. at the discounted price. This will certainly be enjoyed for many years to come.
