Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of BoseŽ Over-the-Ear Headphones (41213) - SilverCustomer Review: Perfect for the average music fan. Summary: 4 Stars
Its very hard to get an idea on what a particular set of headphones sound like by reading a review or even watching a review video. Theres no way to accurately hear them unless its in person. So please keep in mind that what is presented is my opinion, though I will try to be as non-subjective as possible.
Also, I have made a slight modification to these headphones that you need to be fully aware of when reading this review. I have put cotton balls inside each cup. Yes, thats right. I took some cotton balls, tried to rip them apart so they will fit, then smooshed them inside the ear cups. Im not entirely sure why, but they sound better this way and it even increased the bass noticably. Again, my review will be different from others' do to this modification so please be well aware of that. My advice to those who think these headphones suck; try what I did.
I love these headphones. I am not exactly an audiophile, but I am very concerned with audio quality. Im sure once I get some high-end audiophile level headphones ill disagree with what im about to say, but for now these sound really good. Along with the headphones itself, you get a drawstring carrying bag, a 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter, and an extension cable in case the already super long cable isnt enough. Its actually pretty useful if you want to watch TV in bed without disturbing anyone.
I listen to a lot of electronic music and I love bass. However, im not so into bass where I enjoy it when the bass drowns out the rest of the frequency ranges. These headphones somehow found a way to deliver adequately poweful, punchy bass yet retain the sound quality of other ranges. I listen to a lot of BT's music and it sounds great with these headphones. There is a part in Andrelli & Blue's "Imagine (Mike Nichol Remix)" that make the headphones actually vibrate. "New Eden (Ambient)" and the main menu theme from the Mirror's Edge soundtrack sound surreal. So without me going into detail about how these headphones sound with different artists, ill just say that if you are also a fan of electronic genres such as progressive trance, drum&bass, ambient, hardstyle, etc., im sure you'll be satisfied.
So what about you classical or jazz fans? These are a good choice for you as well. I remember being mesermized by the sound of "Dance of Pales" from the Castlevania Symphony of the Night soundtrack. Toccata and Fugue, Chopin's Waltz, and Canon in D sound really great as well. It doesnt quite create the illusion that you are actually there, but the sound is very clear. Ive listened to many other symphonic/orchestral music, but these are just examples. I have not yet listened to the Sennheiser HD555 or HD595 model, but I hear those are excelent for classical music and in the same price range. You might want to consider them, but these Bose headphones will still sound good. I certainly was satisfied.
Im not a big fan of rock or metal, but I will listen to some on occasion. I cant say these cater towards those genres. I dont know, it seems like something is missing. It still sounds good, but maybe im just not knowledgable enough on those genres.
Comfort is excelent. I can wear these for hours on end and have. Back when I didnt have computer speakers, id have to wear these headphones instead. I never had any discomfort.
As for durability, dont worry about the seeminly weak headband. They feel very light and fragile, but as long as you treat them with care (as you should), they will be fine. If anyone says they break easily, they obviously dont treat their headphones with care. Headphones arent meant to be treated roughly.

So in short, these headphones will sound great with probably any genre. However, they seem more focused on electronic and orchestral/symphonic styles. As I said before, these arent audiophile level headphones (in fact, most audiophiles dont like these) and there is definately better stuff out there. However, if these sound pretty good to my ears, they should sound even better for the average person. They will last you many years if you take care of them properly and you will be able to wear them for hours. I recomend these headphones.
