Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Bose On-Ear Stereo Headphones

Customer Review: Great, until they break.
Summary: 1 Stars

I loved these headphones. I thought the sound fidelity was fantastic (though I'm no audiophile), they were very comfortable, and they blocked out a lot of ambient sound to the point where friends would try them on and think they were noise canceling (they're not). They were my favorite pair of headphones I've ever owned.

Then, sound stopped playing out of the left ear. On occasion, it would come back. Apparently this is a somewhat common occurrence and there are plenty of other cases of this happening to other people with the same headphones. I thought it might just be a loose connection or bad solder joint, so I disassembled them and tested the circuits and re-soldered, but it made no difference. The left phone came back on for a bit, but went out again. Must be cheap internal components or something. Either way, I was sorely disappointed. My favorite pair of headphones, and they were the only pair that's ever died on me. I still have a pair of Sony headphones from 15 years ago that works well.

Customer Review: Great Sound, but Undecided
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought these headphones last summer after hearing a demonstration in the store. I must say, over the past few months, they have really served their purpose. They have full range speakers so they don't skip frequencies. I must admit that when I read that you hear things in music you have never heard before, I was rather skeptical. But it's true, not on every song but they do bring a lot more detail than any other headphone I've had.

Unfortunately, after about 4 months of use, a short in the cord developed. It was right in the left ear, so it was beyond fixing. I took it to a Bose store and they gave me a new pair, but did not extend the warranty.

While at the Bose store I tried on the QC3s and I am now actively searching a cheaper pair on the internet.

All in all, these are a little pricey, but they are definitley worth it. They are excellent in the airport on a plane. Provided you have music on, you will have a very hard time hearing other noise.

Customer Review: What did you expect?
Summary: 3 Stars

Well, the sound quality is just what you'd expect from Bose, great.I used to have the over ear ones but due to an car accident I needed new ones so I went to try the on-ear ones, sound quality is about the same on either (although the over ear ones blocked out a lot more outside noise). There are some downsides, the size is a bit of an issue as even these on-ears are relatively big around your head, even though the reason I got the on-ears was because I thought they would be smaller. The other thing is they kind of clamp down on your ears and after an hour or so of listening with them your skin on the outer parts of your ears may feel sore and tender due to the vibrations punishing them. So if you want to listen to A LOT of music I'd actually recommend the OVER ear ones, they fit better, are much more comfortable, and tho the size is still big it proportionally fits well. These on-ear ones aren't bad but if I could I'd switch them for the over ear ones instead.

Customer Review: Great Sound, But Pricey
Summary: 4 Stars

These are some great sounding headphones. I got these especially for my Zune 80 GB Digital Media Player (Black). Buy these and you'll hear sounds in your music that you might not have known were there. I chose these because I thought they looked, felt and sounded better than the BoseŽ around-ear headphones, for personal and portable listening. I also like the portability.

One good thing about Bose is that they have demos set up in stores like Best Buy and Circuit City so you can try before you buy.

Pros: Great Sound, Good Looking and Comfortable + Easy to find and try

Cons: Price. Try to buy online or on sale. I think $175-$200 is too steep. Also, The cord seems too thin and fragile (mine hasn't broken yet).

Customer Review: My search has ended.
Summary: 5 Stars

Been searching for the last 10 years for headphones that can reproduce bass, mid and high - without the bass being annoying or lacking tone (mush) - and for noise canceling that didn't have the uncomfortable pressure feeling of active noise canceling - and that I could wear all day without it feeling painful.

Bose did it.

Finally.

These are absolutely the best. Bought the in ear - bought the active noise canceling set - finalized on these. I can comfortably wear them all day - they get rid of all the noise in the room (to my girlfriend's dismay, heheh) and reproduce sounds you've never heard before.

Can't recommend them any more.

Just lost my set on an 18 hour flight and I'm back here to buy another set. (and no, I'm not rich... but some things are just worth it when they make you happy...)

Hope that helps some of you make your decision.
