Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Bose On-Ear Stereo HeadphonesCustomer Review: Outstanding Purchase, Love These Headphones! Summary: 5 Stars
I had the Bose AE Quiet Comfort Headphones, which I purchased around 6 years ago, and while it's the very best sound I ever had from any headphones or earbuds after a few hours they were just not that comfortable and somewhat bulky to me. After getting the OE recently I'm giving the AE Quiet Comfort phones to a friend and using the OE long-term. The sound is outstanding (but of course not as great as the heavier Quiet Comfort) and I REALLY like the compact format when folded (for travel as well as home), they are VERY lightweight and do the job for me quite well for all types of music. I use them with Ipods, Ipad and computer and could not be more pleased overall. For the gym or running I still have to go with in-the-ear earbuds, headphones just aren't a good choice for exercising. However, they are fantastic for home, hiking or travel. The sound is rich, and on target for me. The most amazing thing is after you've worn them a short while you forget you even have them on, these powerful but lightweight headphones are simply fantastic for me... I highly recommend them. Regarding some comments about low-quality, well I don't see it here. They are lightweight and folding, as long as you don't abuse these phones they will be fine and are well designed and well made. I give these 5 stars without hesitation....
Customer Review: Disappointing Summary: 1 Stars
From the many reviews here, there is plenty of concern with ergonomics. I think these headphones are constructed just fine, but the sound is disappointing. As with any pair of headphones, two numbers are most important: Frequency Range and Frequency Response. Despite impressive numbers in the specs, these headphones fall way short. Yes, they have more bass than any headphones I've ever tried, but the mid-range is dull and there is no high end, so virtually all music sounds muddy and uninteresting. The Frequency Response is very disappointing and especially problematic with Classical music, where the quiet reverberations of the concert hall are so important to the overall experience. The effect is a lifeless sound with no depth. I tried these headphones on several iPods, two CD players and a receiver, but was never able to find a mix that produced a natural sound. Instead, I've put these expensive phones back in their case and returned to a rather large set of Philips headphones that costed only $30 but are better in every respect and have an in-line volume control, which these expensive headphones lack. All things considered, this was money down the drain and a sad showing from Bose. I now understand why some people refer to Bose as "Buy Other Sound Equipment."
Customer Review: Very Clean Summary: 5 Stars
Just picked these up a couple days ago. The store had a test station set up with these and a few other pair of various headphones including the original triport. Of all the tested headphones I chose these because of their clarity and dead on accurate bass. The original triports had good bass too, but the new O-E 'phones have much more body. Tested them out all night on my Ipod (all songs are recorded in WAV format 16-bit 48khz) playing everything from Bobby Darin, Boston, Barenaked Ladies, No Doubt...... you name it. Tried every EQ I could from my computer, Ipod, and Reciever and came to the conclusion that these headphones are very good. In the way of bass you can rattle your brain out with no discernable distortion at all or pretty much delete it. I havent had any trouble removing the bass contrary to some other reviews. Just always remember to feed it a good source signal.
Yes they are mostly plastic.....but so are sennheisers, so I'm not worried much. They do feel like they could break with all the small moving parts but I havent had any trouble so far, but I'll update that in a month or so. They also have excellent comfort, though at times the earpads exert a bit more trapped air pressure than I like first putting them on.
Customer Review: Sound good, but not durable Summary: 2 Stars
They sound pretty good, and are fairly comfortable. The problem I have with them is the cord running from the audio source to the headphones. After about 3 months the cord starts to loosen up from the plug and the audio will constantly cut in and out in both ears. Your left trying to pinch the wire against the plug to get sound, which is not very effective. I'm Currently on my THIRD replacement wire, and I've had the headphones about 10 months.
I would also like to point out that this is from normal wear--I dont wear them to the gym or while running. I just wear them walking around, or sitting at my computer. I have cheap (7 dollar) headphones that I've worn while running, at the gym, in the sauna, and everything in between for 5 years that are fine.
Bose does have good customer service, when the first wire started to head south on me they paid for me to ship back my headphones and sent new ones to me in a couple days. Right now im waiting for my replacement wire and its been over a week, so they're not as good this time.
Perhaps Bose has fixed this problem for newer headphones--I dont know, but you might want to think twice before you spend 180 bucks.
Customer Review: Easily damaged! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought two of these. One as a gift, which was brocken from the start. I exchanged it for my working one and managed to repair the wire along the outside wire route. I am very careful with all of my equipment and since these were damaged even before they were used, I took extra special care of them after my little repair. This did not prevent them from damage again. This time along the external wire between the headphone and the first, short, connection. The connection wire insulation is flimsy and made from some sort of weeved polycarbon, not the heavy rubbery matterial used on all other headphones I have owned over the years. As these cost me $180+ and the repair would require another $75 per my conversation with Bose, I have decided to try and repair them myself. I have always thought that Bose was very over-priced. And I have a rule which seems to hold fast and true: True quality is inversely proportional to the amount of advertizing and firm does on their products. I ignored this rule with Bose. To my peril. I would suggest you find another brand. I will never buy a product from them again. Not any kind. And although the sound quality was better than average, the base was weak.
