Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Bose Companion 2 Series II Multimedia Speaker SystemCustomer Review: Didn't last six months..... Summary: 2 Stars
As someone who likes quality over quality I must say that these speakers are pretty good. Granted, they're not worth the $99 plus tax that I paid for them, but they do the job. The bass on these are not as muddy or distorted as some may say. If there is some distortion than the problem isn't with the speakers. Some media players have an equilizer, so mess with that until you get the right sound. Then you should be ok.
I must admit I was looking for something else when purchasing new speakers (had a pair of $15 creative speakers that finally broke after 2 years...and being played way too loud as well....check out my review.) It came down to these or the Logictech 2.1 system. The P.C. Richard near my house has a Bose display and listening station. I was blown away by the quality of these. While not as loud as the Companion 3 series 2.1 speakers, they do the job just fine. But if these ever go I will go back to my trusty Creative speakers....better buy for less money. I still recommend these, but only if you are willing to spend the cash.
Update:After about six months the left speaker started flickering and then one day, stopped working completely. I suggest buying the Altec Lansing V82420 speakers for less the price and will last at least twice as long (going on 18 months now and still sound fresh out of the box)
Customer Review: Average product, decent output Summary: 3 Stars
I expected to hate these, but they ended up being ok.
My friend gave these to me b/c i needed some speakers that had a headphone jack for work. When he handed them to me, I asked how they sounded. He said, "exactly what you expect." To which I said, "that sounds disappointing." Anyhow, the sound is pretty muddy, that is most likely due to the driver design which is the same driver used in ALL their other stuff. The amplification is ok and protects the speaker so the sound actually sound more accurate the louder you play it. At low volume, it's mud-city, at about halfway volume it gets more flat sounding, which I prefer.
The headphone amplification is very NICE. Compared to the output of my Ipod, it kicks the Ipod in the face. I run the Ipod through the speakers and use the headphone jack, my headphones are much more strong sounding through the speakers. The sound is FULL and ACCURATE. I used Sennhesier MX580s to test it. I use it daily, actually. I give that function a 5/5 stars.
These would sound a lot better with a seperate tweeter instead of the single "all-around" driver that is in there. They are probably worth $40 for the sound you get. JBL is much better sounding. Look at other options. I would probably go with Boston Acoustics MM220.
Customer Review: Awesome Desktop Speakers Summary: 5 Stars
I bought these speakers because I didn't want to turn on my surround sound speakers every time I was sitting at my computer doing work. My computer is also my media center that is connected to my TV. So I needed a pair of regular speakers that sounded good without the sub-woofer. These were the perfect solution for my desktop. I use these when I listen to classical music while I'm at my desk doing work or when I'm just watching some videos on you-tube or something. Also, they are great when I'm gaming late at night and I don't want to disturb anyone with the rumble of the sub-woofer. As many users have mentioned, these are GREAT when you are sitting in front of them and are quit loud! They are crisp and clear. As another user has mentioned, you cannot compare these to a surround sound pair of speakers or stereo speakers w/ a sub. They are desktop speakers and in that respect, they are fantastic! Are they pricey? Well, it's all in the eye of the user I say. I have come to expect a lot from Bose and they deliver every time, thus quality and performance deserves the premium. After all, would you pay an "average" price for a new BMW or a Lexus? Of course not. Bose products are no different. So if you're truly comparing apples to apples, these are truly exceptional. GREAT PRODUCT!
Customer Review: YOUR EYES CAN BE DECEIVED BUT NOT YOUR EARS! Summary: 2 Stars
1. NO POWER SWITCH. Truly a deal breaker. No way to turn them off without unplugging. If you hear a hum in the room turn the volume all the way down. The hum is still there although it is much harder to hear.
2. WASTES POWER. Because of the above flaw these will constantly consume power if they are not unplugged.
3. NO TREBLE / BASS ADJUSTMENTS. Would be OK, but as they come they need the treble turned up.
4. MEDIOCRE SOUND.
And of course the question I would ask if I was the one reading this review. So what's better?
In answer to my own question. Shall we make a list :)
I do not have a lot of speakers and am by no means an audioaholic, but I do have ears and eyes. I have a set of Klipsch 2.0 speakers that I got for $60. They are twice the speakers these ever dreamed of being.
Why did I give them 2 stars? Small size. They are slightly smaller than the Klipsch. Approx. 2" shorter with about the same footprint.
I bought these because of the rage reviews, but if I had realized the things listed above it would have saved me a bunch of money.
By the way.... both your eyes and ears can be deceived. I just wanted some attention to the review.
Customer Review: Excellent 2.0 system for the Mac. Summary: 5 Stars
I have heard many reviews of Bose products. It is either 'all in' or 'all out'. Well I must say, I've gone 'all in" and I am very happy I did. These speakers do not, as some users say, "sound canned" - this user obviously does not know how to use the equalizer settings in his selected media player. I am currently using these speakers connected to a late 2007 Macbook Pro, and the sound is amazing. In Itunes if you go to preferences, turn on "sound enhancer" to the middle mark, and setting the equalizer to what ever setting is most appropriate to the music you are listening to, these speakers will blow you away.
In many regards, I would compare these to being the Steinway & Sons of desktop 2.0 speakers - when you think they couldn't go any louder, they can always keep going, and without hardly any distortion.
If you are looking for a space-saving and elegant design, great sound, great looks, and have the money to spend on these, then don't think twice. As I have said before, these speakers perfectly complement the Macbook Pro line of computers by Apple, but would equally go great with and iMac, Power Mac, or Macbook.
" If it has no highs, and has no lows, than it must NOT be Bose."
