Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Bose Companion 2 Series II Multimedia Speaker System

Customer Review: A little too much
Summary: 3 Stars

I got these speakers for the $89 price, but they still seem, like all Bose products, to be a little artificially price inflated. Granted, Bose does produce some very sleek looking products, and these two speakers are no exception. And Bose usually has very excellent sound quality, and for the most part, I do agree.

Most midrange sounds are nice and warm. Treble is excellent, and are not screechy and distorted as much on higher volumes like many speakers that I have tried out before these (though those speakers were pretty cheap, in the $20 range). The only problem is that these two ranges are overpowered and thusly shadowed by the artificially amplified bass that the speakers pump out. Now I wasn't about to pay upwards of $300 for the Bose Companion 3.1 model (which has the bass seperated out by a subwoofer), but I'm starting to wonder if I should have invested in a cheaper company's speaker system with a controlable subwoofer, as I do most of my computer gaming and music listening at night, and these speakers have bass that can wake the dead, even at low volume levels (which unfortunately cuts out the mid range and treble).

If you are slightly strapped for cash, but like Bose (or higher end speakers in general), and don't mind the heavy bass, then by all means buy these, but if you are a higher end audiophile with more cash to burn, you should probably at the very least upgrade to the next model up from these Bose speakers to get the seperate sub.

Customer Review: The Ideal Speaker for your Desktop/Laptop
Summary: 5 Stars

So probably the reason why you are reading the review for these exceptional speakers is one of the following:
Rather high price compared to the Logitech products, Rather Simple Design, Lack of Subwoofer.

I would like to say, Dont worry about it!

As a frequent music listener and who use my Laptop to stream movies a lot, I highly recommend these speakers for those who are looking for a basic, simple installation, taking up little room,
has aesthetic beauty, and good sound quality speaker.

Yes it is a little pricy, but these speakers with its design and its mediocre heaviness makes sure that Bose has brought something exceptional for your use.
As an owner of the Bose Quiet Comfort series as I do frequent flying, I enjoy the sound quality that Bose has to offer .

I do recognize that some may argue that Band&Olufsen and Sennheiser have a better sound quality.. but this is a simple laptop/desktop speaker we are talking about!
If you are looking for sound quality, I recommend the higher level speakers such as those recommened by the reviewers below.
BUT, if you are looking for a speaker around $100US that perform well and fit firmly into your desk and possess easy portability compared to other speakers with same quality of sound, this is the answer. Enjoy listening.

P.S. ALWAYS LOOK FOR "Amazon verified purchase link" under poster's name! Haters gonna hate =)

Customer Review: I love them, and so do all my friends... a simple matter of taste
Summary: 4 Stars

For what these speakers deliver, they are quite a good value, and everyone who has heard them
at my house is really impressed. That being said, I have no problem with reviews that suggest that
these speakers are not to their taste. If you are someone who is looking for a gut-thumping low end punch,
these speakers are not for you. If you are someone looking for a relatively high fidelity computer
monitor stereo setup for $100, and the dynamic (volume) range does not need to be max'ed out...
these work really well for both audio and video support.

These are computer monitors, not home stereo speakers; if you want real home stereo, spend the dough.
We use our iMac for all our media, and these Bose Companion 2's just plain work for us: above average
Bose-style monitor audio quality, and all for a C-note. .

My only negative comment is: If you really try to max out the volume levels, these speakers
have a built-in dynamic compressor which will cause a noticeable throbbing effect ( I actually called up
Bose and confirmed this compression thing) at high volumes which I find unacceptable. So if I want to crank
volumes up, I find that I need to go up to, say, 80% of maximum possible volume , and no higher.
Other than that, they have a really pleasing sound quality, to my ears. For $100, it's a nice deal.

Customer Review: Unplugged Nirrvana -Yes.. AC/DC-no
Summary: 5 Stars

I highly recommend these speakers for certain tastes. I use them for recording monitors and also playback for practice with a mini disk. One thing is for sure, they are rugged, I've been moving around my little studio and unforetunately both have been dropped more then a few times. I can compare them to 3-4 times the price the active monitor speakers for close field speakers they are very easy on the ears, no ear fatique.
Ac-Dc..no
Nirvana unplugged ..yes
I want an active speaker with no junk in the path like tone controls etc.
this price range is what it is... I am a solo performer.. country blues... which includes a steel body guitar, a Taylor acoustic and a hollowbody electric. I use headphones for the recording.. the playback with these speakers are great.. pretty much what I put in comes out with even proper soundsatge and imaging which surprised me. This applies to most of this price range speakers > why 9 volt, and why a straight end ac-dc connecter that pulls out easily (I duct tape the cable) the power supply is small but for what it reproduces for me there is no problem. I mike my boot for some percussion and the kick on the low end is surprising to me, after I fiber optic to my pc and burn a CD, listen with my upscale system.. Its pretty much the same just much bigger an a little more kick in the middle.

Customer Review: Best Speakers I Have Ever Had - Perfect Sound Reproduction.
Summary: 5 Stars

I create professional audio video recordings. It's my business, it's what I do. When I listen to my recordings I need to hear them "as is" with nothing added or taken away.

I also listen to classical music so, again, I like to hear the sound exactly as it is recorded.

So I needed a pair of good quality speakers and having heard Bose speakers before (on those little CD players you get as a bedside alarm clock in the Four Seasons) I decided to go with these.

These speakers have blown me away with their sound reproduction, volume, clarity, bass... man they are GOOD!

I do not have one bad thing to say about them. MY TV system has a big Yamaha Dolby Surround sound set-up with the big bass woofer box. That, I thought, sounded good. But nothing near as good as these. I'm even thinking of selling my Yamaha and buying another set of these for my TV room!!

These speakers dont have treble or bass controls. They are not designed for that purpose. They are designed for exact, pure "hi-fi" reproduction.

I have to admit to liking the big bass boxes and I always add a boom box to my car - so I'm a bass officianado...

But listening to voice, classical, acoustic, rock, pop and movies, these speakers are the best I've ever owned and I can whole-heartedly recommend them.
