Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of B+W 77mm Clear UV Haze with Multi-Resistant Coating (010M)Customer Review: The ONLY Filter you will NEED! Summary: 5 Stars
This filter is not cheap, the reason for people like me buying this filter is to use on my Canon EF 24-70mm F2.8 Lens for the following reasons:
1) The best filter company in the world who makes this filter! (why the best? If you must know, you go google it!)
2) MRC (Multi-Resistant-Coating) Dust and Water drops are not easy to be attached on the surface of the filter! (Similar to Lotus Effect)
3) Made of Crystal rather than a chemical composition of glass!
4) 10 years of warranty!
The result.....Astounding picture! No image degrades noticed!!
The final question for those of you who hesitate to buy this filter......... why in the world you buy a lens costs $1300, and paired with a crappy lens filter????!!!! It is like driving a Ferrari with a 15 inch tires!!!! go figure!!!
Stop wasting your time, and buy yourself this filter, at least do that for that badboy in your Camera bag!
Customer Review: B+W UV Haze Filter #10 Summary: 3 Stars
Good quality filter, however, it does impart a slight loss in the quality of the pictures, ie. a slight loss of saturation and less contrast. Also, if you use this with zoom lens and taking pictures with distant scenes with haze, dont expect miracles since I did not see any differences in haze reduction! I'm thinking that may be I dont have to more $$$ than I did on this filter, may be a Hoya UV filter should suffice if I just want to protect your lens...I'll get the Hoya UV filter next time and see if it provides the less of a picture quality loss. I was a little disappointed with this filter since there was some very positive reviews on this filter. FYI, I'm using this filter for my 70-200 F2.8L IS USM and 24-105mm F4L IS USM lens. Since these are expensive lenses, that is why I spent more money on this filter, however, from what I read, Hoya also makes excellent high quality filters and less expensive.
Customer Review: Works Awesome. Summary: 5 Stars
As my canon 28-135 mm lens and canon 30d camera are catching up dust, I thought of protecting them using filter. Based on my friends recommendation, i bought '72mm UV Haze 010 (MRC) Multi-Resistant Coating F-Pro Glass Filter by B+W'.
As soon as I got the camera cleaned up from service center, I shot two pictures (with and without filter) to judge the capability of lens. (both shot with av mode @ f/22, iso 100)
[...]
one downside I came across is while shooting a subject with sun set as background, I saw couple of lens flare away from the sun. May be it could be been shot better, as I am just an amateur. But for me protecting the lens is #1 priority over, shooting a few pictures with bright light in the background.
Bottom line, I am happy with the purchase and this filter not only protects the costly lens catching up dust but also filters the haze.
Customer Review: Industry leader Summary: 5 Stars
Working in photography for too many years to remember, the need for a high quality Haze, Skylight filter to protect my lens glass is paramount. Think about it, would you rather replace an $85 filter on the front of your lens of a $1,200+ "L" lens. I'll take the filter option. Shooting sports, mostly American football, my gear gets hit, dropped, kicked and abused. I've had to replace a few filters over the years, but never a lens.
Anything you put in front of the lens is apt to lower the quality of your image. Using top quality glass filters is key to minimizing the loss of quality while maximizing the protection of your precious lens.
B&W is a leader in this space. Most professional I know use their filters and swear by them. You can go the cheaper route, but don't expect first class results with second rate glass.
Customer Review: Excellent Build Quality Summary: 5 Stars
Pros:
- Great build quality, made from brass
- Does not bind or jam
- Made in Germany. This is a big plus for me since I grew up in Europe and am a tiny little bit biased LOL
- Uses original lens cap and hood, can leave it on 24/7
- Impressive 10-year warranty
Cons:
- A little difficult to clean. I didn't see this from other reviews but I found it very tedious to clean. Ended up using my Oakley sunglasses microfiber bag and it worked like a charm.
- A little high for just one filter, but I had to get 2 for the above 2 lenses :(
Others: I always use the lens hood that comes with my 24-70mm f/2.8L and the 70-200 f/2.8L so wasn't terribly concerned about using this filter for protection. But just in case something should get past the hood.
