This is the second Aurora I have bought. The first lasted about a year but I didn't pay attention to the basket size and had to fold all my papers to shred them. this is a regular paper sized shredder. I seem to go through one shredder a year; I have yet to find one that is durable. Maybe this one will be, but just so you are clear - it does a good job but I've only had it about a month and don't want anyone to expect their shredder to be durable. Maybe if I paid 100's of dollars that would be a durable one, but because I have spent as much as $70 on one before and it was no more durable then the cheaper ones, I have decided to just to go cheap and expect to have to buy a new one after a year or two. But I have owned about 4 now, and this one is as good or better then the others I have owned - performance-wise.Customer Review: My 93 year-old aunt was hasseled by Aurora in a return/exchange

I sent this to 93 year-old auntie and her equally aging husband as a gift after hearing about how they spent hours hand-shredding papers. They were over-joyed upon receiving it. Within a few short weeks the the motor failed in forward motion (not reverse). After they spent hours on the phone with Aurora technical support it was decided that the unit was defective. Here's what Aurora told them:
1. Get a proof of purchase! (they did not have one since it was a gift from me - I snail-mailed the POP because auntie never joined the home fax/computer PDF and printer generation). I believe that a return authorization was required too.
2. Box up the defective unit with POP and send it back for an exchange (auntie had to pay nearly $30 in shipping).
That's why I'm writing this.

In the past I've had bad luck with shredders - both the strip type and the cross-cut type. This one seems different. It sounds more powerful, and although I've only had it for a month, I feel quite confident that I have finally chosen a peach instead of a lemon. This time I looked on-line first. I would have preferred a cross-cut model but really did not find any that were well-reviewed at what I considered a reasonable price. This model seemed to have really good reviews, and the price was right at Amazon. I have no regrets so far, and the machine has as good a guarantee as any of the others I read about, so I feel confident for the future. I haven't tried running more than a couple of sheets at a time, just to do my best not to screw it up, though it is reputed to have a 6-sheet capacity.Customer Review: Good shredder - no assembly required

I had never owned a shredder before and it's been great not having to rip up old bills and paystubs or to cut up credit cards. This shredder is about the size of a garbage can that you'd have in your bedroom or office. The shredder itself sits on top of the canister and it easily can be removed when you need to empty the canister. It's great for up to 8 pieces of paper, but as you get closer to 8 it really slows down and you can hear the motor grinding. I've had this for 6 months now and after about 12 full baskets of shredded paper it still works just like new. Only one time did something get stuck (the container was too full) so we used the reverse button and although some paper ended up on the floor it was an easy fix and the thing went back to working like new again.Customer Review: Aurora AS810SD 8-Sheet Strip Cut Paper/CD/Credit Card Shredder with Basket

Love the shredder for its expandable arm so I can use it with a trash basket - hate ALL the shredder baskets - besides they're not baskets - they're plastic buckets - they just waste good space and the "whole package" is top heavy and always and forever falling over and dumping shredded paper on the floor.
Whatever happened to being able to buy "just the shredder" WITH expandable arm but WITHOUT a bucket - the best ones I ever had were those. The buckets are a waste of space and $$$ for my purposes. I'm a small individual user so don't need huge volume shredder - once a year, I do shred lots of stuff so want a basket that will hold "lots of shredded stuff.
DITCH THE BUCKET!!! OR, at least offer a shredder w/expandable arm and NO bucket.
