Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Aurora AS810SD 8-Sheet Strip-Cut Paper, CD and Credit Card Shredder BasketCustomer Review: Good Value for the Money Summary: 5 Stars
I had purchased this for our home / personal use. I had read the reviews on the overall quality of the product. I still purchased the item knowing that prolonged use of the shredder for a long time can shut down. I do have a lot of shredding to do - about 8 years worth of mine & about 10 years for my husband. Then I have my parent's to work on as well.
The basket is small for all the shredding that needs to be done and has to be emptied quite frequently which is a pain in the ass when you have a lot to do. What I have personally done is once I have scanned in the paperwork into the computer, I have a separate small waste basket for which papers needs to be shredded, and only shred for about 20 min. a day. It's a pain in the butt, but it works in preventing the overheating of the product.
The Shredder does not cross shred, which could be a bummer, but does the CD's well & Insurance cards.
I would recommend this to anyone for personal use. If you are a small business, then No I would invest in a larger one.
Customer Review: Happy with purchase Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this about a year ago. I use it about every 3 months when I finally decide to clear out my old receipts and junk mail (credit cards/etc).
I had bought some other low price ones, and they were totally terrible/useless - constantly jamming and next to impossible to get unjammed.
I am very happy with this one. I do about 2 to 3 pieces at a time and have not had problems with jams. I use it for only a few minutes at a time; for about 1/2 basket full at a time at the most. Then I give it a rest otherwise it does seem to want to start to jam a bit(not bad), and I just stop and give it a short rest and it works fine.
It has shredded my old credit cards/health cards without any problems.
It does need a lot of emptying - main wish would be for a bigger basket. And it does shred in just long strips.
Since it is only for my personal items every few months, it just isn't worth trying a much more expensive one when this gets the job done.
Customer Review: Stopped working after less than a month Summary: 1 Stars
First, the most important thing: I never put more than 6 sheets through this at a time (it says it can handle eight). I used it only for home shredding: old bank statements and so forth, so it was really only lightly used. In other words, this is not a case of someone buying a low-end shredder and complaining if it breaks when trying to shove 84 pages through it at once.
The nitty gritty is this: After perhaps 100 total sheets of paper over the course of a few weeks, it just quit working. Reverse setting still works, but that's hardly helpful since reverse doesn't shred. Having seen all the great reviews, I'm very disappointed in this product. Note: this does not do "confetti" or "cross cut" shredding: it shreds things into long strips. Additionally, the CD "shredder" did not actually shred or even break the CD, but rather, simply engraved scratches on it. I could have done that with a utility knife without bothering with a shredder.
In summary: Not recommended.
Customer Review: Looks good, but broke the first day Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this shredder because it had decent reviews, and was small and white (read: blends in with decor so my wife would let me keep it out in plain view).
This is a super light duty shredder. It doesn't make confetti cuts, just turns the paper into long strips. As a result, it isn't as secure and take up a lot of space in the bucket, so you have to empty often. But my biggest complaint is obviously that it broke the first day I had it. I would have been more upset except that I hadn't thrown away the packaging yet so it made it easy to return. So I was very disappointed and can't recommend a product that broke on day one, but Amazon was great about their return policy as usual.
I purchased a Fellowes DM12c as a replacement, which is more expensive and heavier duty. I really like the Fellowes shredder and it was worth the extra money. The way it sounds when this baby devours documents is like the purr of exhaust on a vette or porsche - very satisfying.
Customer Review: A BIG disappointment Summary: 1 Stars
This product does not deserve 4 out 5 stars like it has now with average review.
Before buying this-----I also saw the reviews and thought it should be good, at least with the price I was paying! But it has come out to be a flop!! and wastage of 30 bucks.
Here is what is wrong:
1. Even if it is on Auto mode, it keeps on trying to shred EVEN IF there is no paper in that! I have to turn it to OFF mode to get rid of that annoying sound!
2. It shreds A4 size papers, but if I try layers of shopping bills/receipts, it gets stuck and does not sense it! I have to tuck it forward for the SO_CALLED_SENSOR to work!!
Its too late for me to return now!! I called the company itself and Aurora customer rep gave me "mechanical-what-to-do" list, in stead of returning/replacing it!!!
Whats the use of buying a new shredder when I have to 'oil-it' after 2 months of buying it!!
SAVE YOUR SELF THIS PAIN..DONT BUY THIS!!
