Customer Review: Gets the job done

This shredder works, in that it does what it says, it will in fact shred. However I have had it for one day and have already had an issue with the auto feature not wanting to shut off. I had been shredding a large batch of receipts and it would keep running, flipping it into reverse wouldn't help. I finally got the auto to shut off by running 4 or 5 full size sheets of paper through. I assume that this cleared the sensor or something. But I would be hesitant to use the auto setting and then leave the room, because if it kept running like that without you knowing it would eventually burn up the motor.Customer Review: A couple of problems.

I had another shredder that sat on top of a tall kitchen basket for about 10 years. It finally died. It cost me about $30. So, I go this one. One review said that it had a handle that would extend so you could place it on a tall trash basket. I did that but the arm is not made well, very flimsy, and it totally snapped off. I was forced into using the basket it came with which is really too small and I have to keep dumping the paper. It shreds good but I wouldn't try more than 5 sheets at a time. I haven't tried the CD or credit card shredders yet so I don't know if they function well or not.Customer Review: Cheap, but not worth it

My first surprise was the small size of the basket. I have no reason to believe the published dimensions are incorrect but, I didn't compare them to others -- caveat emptor, my fault.
But it hardly matters, because the blades got dull in just a few months. The manufacturer rates it to cut 8 sheets at a time. I'm sure I never tried to put more than that through the machine (I've been careful, after having stripped the plastic gears on my previous shredder), but now it will only shred reliably if I feed it one page at a time.

I should have paid more attention to the reviews of this shredder before making the purchase.
It WILL NOT shred 8 pieces of paper at one time.
It WILL NOT shred credit cards. The card that finally did go through the machine was completely legible upon completion.
It WILL NOT shred Compact Discs
It is NOT recommended to shred any envelope.
The basket for the shredded paper is too small and must be emptied regularly.
This shredder is NOT recommend. I would not purchase it again for me or anyone in my association.

i have no complaints about this shredder. it works great shredding papers. i have yet to try shredding other things. other ways to recycle? paint or squiggle or whatever on the papers with big markers or paint before you shred them (if its a really sensitive document.) you dont have to be real thorough. separate those documents by half when you're done shredding them (this is, if you're paranoid like i am. why would anyone try to paste back already papers that have been covered with paint? well, just in case). then use them for shipping, like bubblewraps.
