Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Aurora AS810SD 8-Sheet Strip-Cut Paper, CD and Credit Card Shredder Basket

Customer Review: A great product
Summary: 3 Stars

ok, so I bought this mainly to shred my cds from high school. I had a bunch of stuff stored with random junk on them that I wanted gone. Anyways, it shreds in both parts. The one side just breaks them, but the other side shreds them lol. it looks funny to see a shredded cd :D Anyways, I had problems figuring out the cd part at first. I didn't know you had to push the button and then hold it even after it's done because sometimes the pieces get caught in the bottom and it just needs a little extra to get those out. That's why i just used the shredder on it at first. lol. Anyways, I have tried up to 6 pieces of paper on it so far at the same time, and it can probably do a little more. Like 12. Actually, I put a catalog in it and it done the catalog :D All those pamphlet I had from old work places it done those too including my WalMart Debit Card from back to when I worked at WalMart :D The only problem I have with it is sometimes I will switch the thing to reverse and it goes the other way creating a mess for me :( I didn't deduct stars from it though because that is more of my problem. Actually, I wish that I had bought one with a bigger case because the tub doesn't hold much for me. I bought the little one though because I just wanted it in my room and thought I didn't require a bigger one. I guess I was wrong :( Anyways it works great though :D I assume after I shred all my other papers and just shred what comes in the mail it will be ok.

LoL i guess it depends on the thickness of the magazine. I just tried to shred a thick magazine and it didn't take it lol :) oh well. Those aren't really important. Oh ya, and it doesn't do coupons. Well it kinda does, but doesn't.

Update:

The cd shredder is annoying. Every time I shred a cd it gets stuck in the gears or a piece gets stuck in the gear and I have to go in with tweezers to get it :( The trash can is so small, that by the time I have started on my stuff it's half-way filled and after it gets half-way you basically have to change it because the paper gets stuck or jammed in the shredder part :(

Customer Review: Do not buy the shredder. I'm saving you money and frustration.
Summary: 1 Stars

I noticed the last two reviewers had the same problem with their shredder like I did.

To sum it up, do not buy this shredder. It's inexpensive but it's a waste of money. Honestly. Look elsewhere. I'm saving you money and frustration. Don't be fooled by the average 4 star rating.

The first time I used it, it worked like it's suppose to. I set it on "AUTO" and when I put paper in, it would shred and then stop when there is no paper inside. I shredded one basketful of papers with no problem.

The second time around, paper got stuck inside. I wasn't putting in too many sheet either. I unplugged it and tried to get the paper out the best I could. I plugged it back in and it wouldn't shred when I put paper inside.

I tried to put a credit card in like the manual says cause there was something blocking the sensor in the middle of the shredded so it wouldn't detect any paper being put inside. That didn't help but the shredder worked again.

After that, the "AUTO" part of the shredder stopped working. When I switched it to AUTO, it would just continuously run the motor. I could put paper inside to shred.

However, it stopped working before the second basket filled up. Again, I put a couple sheets in and it got stuck. I tried to clean it out as best as I could and tried it again but the motor doesn't even run when I turn it on.

I'm getting a refund from Amazon. I have never had a problem with products I've bought here but this is the first.

Customer Review: Great, light-use shredder
Summary: 4 Stars

After owning this shredder, and reading some negative reviews, I have a feeling that many people just don't think before they either buying this shredder, or put in what it can't handle (unless they truly did get a dud, which I'm guessing is rare). I bought it with the intention of only shredding junk mail and any documents with personal information, and it's been great! If you try to put in too much, I can see it maybe struggling, so I've never tried that. I never recycle nor throw away my address, so I always tear those off. When they pile up, I shred a small pile, maybe 6-10, and it can easily handle that load.

I've accidentally put in staples and it handles them just fine. Credit cards do take just a little more effort, but it get the job done just fine. To people who say you shred it and the entire number is on the shredded remains, just turn it horizontally and that problem is fixed!

This machine is more basic, but it's not rocket science to know that you can't overload it. I've never tried more than 6 pages, and it can handle that amount alright, but I'd say that should be the limit to be safe.

It does cut in long 1/4 inch strips, which is not secure, so that's why I'm selling this one and buying a confetti one. However, the person who is buying this one will be lucky, because it gets the job done on simple shredding jobs!

Customer Review: Solid Product
Summary: 4 Stars

Product does exactly what it is advertised to do. Yes, it cuts paper into strips, not confetti--just as it's name promises. For my purposes--shredding credit card offers, bank statements, and other documents with personal information--strip cuts are just fine. There are much easier pickings out there for identity thieves. Probably not sufficient for those under surveillance by the FTC or FBI.

The only reason I give it four stars instead of five is that it struggles to shred 8 sheets of paper at a time if they aren't exactly aligned and inserted at a perfectly straight angle. A more accurate maximum would be 6 sheets of paper. Still, this is a minor complaint for me. I shredded more than 2 years of old papers in two evenings, and the shredder only overheated and shut down once each evening. After allowing it to cool for a few minutes (as the directions say to) it resumed functioning with no problems. Credit cards presented no problem. Didn't try the CD shredder.

I would caution parents of young children that while it would be pretty difficult to get tiny fingers into the top, a small child would definitely be able to touch the sharp blades of the CD shredder from the underside. So, keeping the product out of reach of young kids would be advisable (but really, when would allowing a child to get near a paper shredder ever be a good idea?)

Customer Review: For the money...Great little Shredder!
Summary: 4 Stars

Before I start my review...It should be added to the description that you should buy SHREDDER OIL for this product! The instructions say it should be used and based on the heat that is produced in the shredding mechanism I would say it is a must! I went with the "Fellowes Powershred Shredder Oil" and you just oil some pieces of paper and run them through the machine every 200 or 300 sheets of paper.

PROS:
-Can fit bigger sized baskets (which is a must)
-Can do up to 8 pieces of paper at a time which I found was about the size of most of my junk mail
-Very simple to use

CONS:
-Small basket
-No oil included

I ran this for the first time on some old bills I had from the mid 90s. Went though probably about 400 sheets of paper (envelopes and all). Only issue is I had to switch to a much larger basket because the one that is included is way to small for anything over a very small job. The shredder has a little side arm that extends to fit larger baskets. Very impressed with the machine and it will handle all of my needs for under $30! I would recommend for anyone in need a light to medium duty shredder.
