If you live in a large city you shouldn't need an expensive HD antenna; this pair of rabbit ears will let you receive HD channels over the air. It doesn't say HD on the box but it works fine for me as long as I put the antenna near the window. I have it connected to a 40" Samsung hi-def TV and the picture is generally beautiful. Sometimes there are some digital artifacts but 99.9% of the time it's crystal clear. I suppose you could spend more money and get a stronger antenna but unless you live out in the country that isn't really necessary.
* EDIT * It turns out HD reception with this antenna is highly dependent on weather conditions. Last night it was very windy and I had a heckuva time positioning the antenna to get a signal that wouldn't break up and go missing. Pretty frustrating. But once you get that positioning right, it works okay. (Some dropouts now and then.)

I was looking for an antenna that would keep me from having to go to cable after the transition to digital. I tried several antennas, including one that was amplified. This Terk TV-1, together with a converter box, was better than all the rest. Don't be fooled by the hipe of "HDTV Antennas". Also, although it may be sent with a UHF loop, you don't need it. I get channels 21,25 41,45 & 68 just with the antenna as pictured without any loop. I live in Nassau County on Long Island, NY. Unfortunately this antenna has been discontinued and probably will be difficult to obtain. After I bought my fist one, I tried several vendors thru Amazon who initially stated that it was "in stock", came back with "no longer stocked". I was fortunately able to get one thru amazon, by continuing to search for it over several months. The Terk TV-1 is your typical rabbit ears that works if you are in a good reception area and it does picks up HD. I have used two other antennas - a small portable $5 antenna and a $30 amplified antenna. My smaller antenna picked up all the HD channels I needed except NBC. The Terk did pick up NBC, but only if you orient it in a certain direction. However, the Terk wasn't as good as a $30 amplified antenna I used to have which picked up more channels than the Terk.
One annoying thing about the Terk is the adapter it comes with that goes into your TV's coaxial plug. It doesn't screw into the coaxial plug properly, but rather you just have to try to squeeze it on the TV and it doesn't fit perfectly. The antenna still works fine, but I think they could have just made a regular adapter that screws onto the TV.

I read excellent review of this product and bought it. I have a Sony HDTV KDL26M4000 with in built HDTV tuner. First of all, the installation instruction is sketchy and confusing! There is no option on my HDTV of connecting VHF and UHF separately. The instructions that accompanied the product did not show with any helpful diagram how to connect. Also the product came with a loop (which I guess is the UHF loop). The installation intructions do not carry any information about how and where to attach it. None of the reviewer has mentioned anything about this either. With auto programming options, I could get only 3 channels coming clearly. I live in an open area without ant big tree or building and I tried with placing the antenna on my window shield! Can anybody help please?Customer Review: TERK TV ANTENNA

Service in recieving the antenna was great. Antenna itself is no more than so so....but it was not overly expensive so my expectations were only moderate.
Reviews I read raving about this antenna must have been written by the manufactuer. Reception on the old analog channels is much worse than the ten year old rabbit ears I pirated off an old TV to use. I get more channels, but only one of them is watchable, others are all static.
Does digital reception, which the rabbit ears didn't, but those channels tend to break up / digitalize a lot.
Bought annother TERK antenna a few years ago, which I paid a lot more for, that was suppose to be the high tech ultimate.....went in the trash after about two weeks.
