Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Atlantic Satellite 77305018 2 Speaker Stands (Black)Customer Review: Clean, compact and sturdy speaker stands Summary: 4 Stars
I recently purchased a pair of Atlantic 77305018 Satellite Speaker Stands, and I must say that I am content with my purchase. What's important here is; you have to set your expectations correctly. These stands are very inexpensive, so my expectations were very low. I thought the packaging would be shoddy, the instructions would be unreadable, assembly would be a nightmare and the stands would be flimsy. However, when the stands arrived, my expectations where exceeded. The packaging is very good and the stands arrived without damage. In addition, the overall finish on the stands was much better than I expected. The assembly instructions, while curt, where easier to follow than I expected. The assembly went very smooth. I was able to put the stands together in about 20 or 30 minutes. The hardware included with the kit was very good and once assembled, the stands are very sturdy.
Now for the bad news. I had to spend some time playing around with the speaker mounting hardware to get my small statellite speakers to appear straight and level. I don't know about you, but having the speaker off-center or tilted really drives me crazy. The speaker mounts are very strong, and I'm not concerned that the speakers will fall off the stands, it was just difficult to get the speakers aligned on top of the stands correctly. I don't want to mislead anyone, these are not great, high end stands, but in my opinion, they are a very good value.
Customer Review: Its a stand. Summary: 4 Stars
I just put this thing together today and it took about 1/2 hour to put together. Could of been less if I didn't follow the instructions exactly. I follow it step by step until the step where you need to put the wires through the pole. My wires got stuck somewhere in the pole. I keep pushing it through and nothing came out of the other end. If you want to save time, follow my instructions.
1) Attach pole to the base and make sure its tighten securely.
2) Tape the wires of your speaker at one end of a pencil or pen.
3) Flip the stand upside down where the base is on top.
4) Drop your pen or pencil through the pole and lift the stand up until your pen or pencil comes out.
5) Put the stand in the upright position and un-attach the wires from your pen or pencil.
6) Follow the pictures on the sheet and you'll be fine.
7) The last step says drill holes on the bottom of your speakers. Unless you really know what you are doing, I wouldn't recommend this. The screw on back of the speaker should be sufficient enough to keep it sturdy.
I only give it 4 stars because I don't like the texture of the pole. It feels like sand-paper. Other than that, its a good stand for a low price. I think the maximum height extension of the stand is around 4 feet. There are 2 stands in the package. I'm planning to order another one for my surround sound speakers.
Customer Review: A few flaws, but for the price, probably worth it. Summary: 3 Stars
Pros:
SUPER LOW PRICE
Heavy-duty base and poles
Cons:
Poor workmanship (threading at base)
Cheap details (low quality plastic parts)
Comments:
I got my stands today (4 total) and was a bit disappointed with the quality of construction (not to mention Amazon's poor attempt to properly pack them). The base was constructed of very heavy painted cast iron with felt pads on the feet. The poles also seem very heavy duty, but the plastic adjustment collars are of cheaper quality and don't seem to be attached very well. My biggest complaint though is with the threading on the poles and the stands. The threads don't fit tightly and are too fine for the material used. On one of the bases, the threading is completely missing halfway down on one side (it's just flat painted metal.) WARNING: It is extremely easy to mis-thread or over tighten these stands, so be careful or you'll be grabbing for the JB-Weld. Even when they are threaded properly, there is a lot of play, which at the speaker mount area equates to a couple inches of back and fourth movement. I'm going to attempt to return them to Atlantic for warranty issues, hoping that they were just a bad batch. We'll see what happens. For the price though, they are still a good buy if you don't mind the possibility of having to permanently attach the base to the poles.
Customer Review: Inexpensive, unobtrusive, and very functional. Summary: 5 Stars
The reason I have given 5 stars is due to the price, the height, and excellent functional design. As you know, speaker stands are ridiculously overpriced. These are reasonable.
Speaker wire can be completely hidden. The wire feeds through the stand and comes out the top for connection to your speakers. There is a cool little "U" shape on the front foot where the speaker wire comes out on the bottom. It keeps the speaker wire directed where you want it to be directed on the base. It's a very well thought out design feature that I've not seen on other stands. With tile floors, it makes a big difference for me. It keeps the speaker wire directed under the sofa where I want it so it can't be seen.
Now on to stability-
If you have hard flooring, you will be able to extend the stands all the way up if you screw the speakers to the bottom plate. The base is surprisingly stable and it has rubbery stuff on the bottom to keep it from sliding. If the stands will be on carpet, you may not be able to fully extend them unless you have small speakers. My son's system has small speakers. They are back mounted to the stand with a screw and nut that fit inside a metal bracket that can be removed for screw mount. His speakers are on berber carpet. With his small lightweight speakers he is able to fully extend these with no wobble.
Customer Review: Great speaker stands at a reasonable price Summary: 5 Stars
I have to admit, this is my first experience with speaker stands. I have always had rather large tower speakers that didn't require stands. I was surprised by the vast difference in prices and options, and as such, wasn't expecting much when I got these for what seemed a "cheap" price.
I am very happy with the stands, I bought two sets for a new 5.1 system I installed in a smaller room, using smaller sattelite speakers.
The stands went together rather easily, less than five minutes each. Since my system has the wires permanently attached to the speakers and a bulky connector at the other end of the wires, I had to cut the speaker wire to feed it through the stand - not the fault of the stand, just the proprietary nature of the system I bought. Cutting and splicing the speaker wire took longer than the stand assembly. That said, the system for hiding the wire, though basic, is effective and easy. I was easily able to hide the splice within the stand.
The stands are on a carpeted floor and are still very stable, though the speakers I am using are small and light, less than a pound. I have them extended to 52"(at the top of the speaker)with no problem. They look perhaps a bit more modern than the rest of the room they are in, but still look great.
All-in-all, I am very satisfied with this purchase.
