Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Atlantic Satellite 77305018 2 Speaker Stands (Black)Customer Review: Buyer beware -- you get exactly what you pay for Summary: 1 Stars
I just spent a VERY frustrating half hour putting these together. First off, I should mention that the stands are far from universal. If you have very generic, small square cube speakers, then you'll perhaps be okay (assuming you don't break the cheap plastic sleeve, and you probably will, more on that in a second). But if you have speakers with any kind of curve to them, like mine do -- the LG LHB977), then you'll have to resort to using little strips of double-sided tape. Yes, I said little strips of tape. And if your speakers don't have a perfectly solid, flat/flush square base (mine don't), then the tape is even more of a joke.
But the biggest problem with these are the cheap plastic sleeves which (supposedly) allow for easy height adjustment. HA! When extending them to full height, be VERY careful not to pull the two tubes apart, as it is remarkably easy to do so. And putting the tubes back together will easily break the inside of the plastic sleeve. And even if you manage to keep the two pieces together, the sleeve doesn't actually screw into anything -- it will just twist left or right until you break it. I finally had to use BLACK DUCT TAPE over one of the sleeves!!
Let's put it this way, it took me longer to get these @%*$^# to stand up straight and *tenuously* hold my speakers than it did to set up my entire home theater setup. I'm pretty good at assembling stuff (even Ikea furniture), but after much swearing and sweating, these stands are about as stable as a house of cards. One good sneeze in their direction, and I'm pretty certain they will collapse and send my speakers to the floor.
I've bought a LOT of stuff on Amazon over the years, and I can't remember feeling so stupid that I had bought such a budget-priced product. Sure, they're cheap. Because they're cheap!
Customer Review: Great Value! Summary: 4 Stars
This is the second set of universal Atlantic speaker stands I have bought. I gave my parents my old ones and purchased these to replace them. The first set I bought about 3 years ago and they had a flat square base. These new ones are identical except the base is not flat like the old ones. The new stands are curved like the arch of your foot and form more of a triangle shape. The reason this matters is because I find these are a little more "tipable" than the old ones. We have a 15 month old, and it was fair bit harder for her to knock over the old ones. While this may not be an issue for most, the stability will be important to some. The new ones aren't wobbly, but are just easier to knock over because of the base shape.
As far as construction, these are built very solid. They are solid metal (I believe iron) and have a flat black powder finish with a rough sandpaper like texture. They approximately go from about 2ft to 4ft in height. Their is a U-shaped wire bracket on the back of the speaker platform that is for you to screw the speaker to so they won't fall of of the stand. It is about 3 to 4 inches tall. As long as the screw hole on the back of your speakers isn't above that you should be fine, but I know a few people have had to rig something on their speakers because the hole was higher than the wire bracket.
The top speaker platform can rotate 360 degrees parallel to the floor so you can point the speakers where you want. I also really liked that the speaker wire can run through the pole as it is hollow. This makes for a cleaner look when the stands were up.
All-in-all I am pretty satisfied with the stands. There is better out there, but at double or even triple the cost. With that in mind, I would definitely buy them again.
Customer Review: Looks great, works well and easy to assemble Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased these for my Polk Audio RM6750 front speakers. They were considerably cheaper than the Sanus stands, and I was skeptical about that. I read the reviews here and decided that a $30 savings was worth a shot.
I used 14 gauge speaker wire and it ran up inside the pole with plenty of room. Someone else said it didn't fit right, but it was fine for me. This was a 100 ft. spool of RCA speaker wire from Lowes, for reference.
Putting the base and poles together is a snap. The holder slides into a small metal fastener on the top in an "L" shape. It is made of a very stiff metal and shaped back around in a loop, so the exact location of the keyhole on your speaker is irrelevant (up to a certain height). It acts just like a slider, so putting the speakers onto the holding bracket was a breeze.
I'm not sure if this could be made to work with speakers that have the threaded mounts on the bottom of the speakers. Since you can fasten the bracket to the base of the top pole however you want, you might be able to slide it back a bit and get to the bottom if you put the long part of the "L" as the base. I don't know how great this would look but it would probably work (it might even look fine).
They look great in my living room next to my plasma. I was afraid they they would be easily tipped over with dogs/children but they don't tip all that easily so not one single accident yet. I wasn't a huge fan of the triangular base look, but once I got them together and next to the TV I loved it.
All-in-all a great buy and just as good (if not better) as the more expensive competition. Make sure you look at some of the photos here so you can get a good idea how they fasten to your speakers to see if they will work first.
Customer Review: Assemble this product carefully. Summary: 3 Stars
I read the reviews before purchasing this item. I did my home work. there was the good, the bad and the ugly. I found for the price this set served my purpose for my tiny Sony rear surround speakers. I'm sure it can handle much larger speakers given the base size and it's weight. I figured I could work around the problems others have had. With that said I will talk about assembly.
The cast base threads are crap as well as the threads on the uprights which are much better than the base threading. The machine was having a bad day when it tapped these speaker stand bases. I'm mechanically inclined and had to be very careful not to cross thread them. When screwing in it's very sloppy, not tight at all like threads should be. I guess that why they give you threaded lock rings that tighten down against the base because even after being all the way screwed in the uprights were wobbly an unstable (bad base threading). Once I tightened the lock rings down all was solid and stable. They have good height when fully extended. The twist locking grip is plastic and others have said it's fragile but I had no problem giving it a moderate good snug to get it to hold without putting all my strength into it like others might have done.
I'm pleased with my purchase but gave the 3 star rating because of the poor threading on the base and uprights. This could be a problem for others who don't have a gentle touch and are in a hurry to assemble. I would purchase the same item again if I had the choice and for the price it's a good deal.
Customer Review: These stands are good, but iron rusts Summary: 3 Stars
These stands were bought after much research on satellite speaker stands for our PSB surround sound setup. I have two alpha book case speakers and the two smaller satellite L/R speakers (don't remember the name of the series). Assembly was not quite as elegant as I had hoped, but the stands are sturdy and I can't complain too much for the price. They fit in nicely with the decor too.
The first problem was the speaker mounts were too small. The small loops that go over the back fell short of the mounting holes. I remedied this by flipping the speakers over. Not exactly what most would suggest, but I don't worry about it too much (the upside down psb label is barely noticed). The sound isn't effected by this noticibly as the room is relatively small.
The next problem: The stands are rusting. I should have expected it to as it's an iron construction, but it happened within a week. I have to scrap it down and retouch. I'm still holding onto them, but I hope it was just a bad seal/paint job and maybe a stray chunk of snow or drop of water got snugged up under there.
They are stable, but hard to rid of cat hair due to the texture. In a highly modern design they are fairly plain compared to some of the more sinuous and flowing stainless steel stands. However, our room is fairly simple as we live in a cape cod so they blend well.
Bottom line: I'm satisfied, but I wish they weren't rusting so quickly.
