Customer Review: Nice storage option

I gave this a 5 when it should be 4.5 stars. I purchased two of these because I really needed the storage as my library of DVD's has been growing for years.
I give a great deal of credit to the information that has already been posted here on some of the things to look for. I had no cracking issues when nailing in the back pieces, mainly due to extra care and watching based on the feedback here.
The total time to build these was slightly longer than 2 hours. I was working by myself with no extra hands. The first one obviously took longer then the second as I was learning the quirks of assembly. I ended up putting the center shelf on backwards and had to undo some assembly to correct this.
Once completely assembled, I placed shelves in spaced so that DVD's would fit all spaces. I had a number of spare shelves and quite a bit of extra hardware left. Knowing this gives a great deal of flexibility in how to setup unused space for other objects that are different sizes. Thats a huge plus.
The look is as expected and they do look very nice side by side and loaded. Overall, after all of the work, these units fit the bill for me and I'm anxious to have people see them and comment on how much can be stored on these in a basically smaller area. I could not find units this size locally nor could I find any that were close to this size and capacity.
Highly recommended but do pay attention and be aware of the cracking issue so that you are prepared to deal with the backing assembly without incident.

Our Oskar Multimedia Storage Cabinet arrived in a timely manner and was in very good condition. My husband assembled the unit with ease, until it was time to nail the card board backing on. Following the instructions he laid the unit down on it's face, of course the kick-board had already been added so it didn't lay flat. When nailing on the backing the "J" board (the center shelf holding the entire unit together) split at every point of contact.
We had ordered our Oskar Storage Cabinet through Amazon, directly from Ritz Camera. So, naturally I called Ritz to replace the "J" shelf. I was informed I would have to return the entire unit. I immediately pictured myself trying to get all those shelves back into the box and figured that was more trouble than I wanted to go through.
So, I tracked down the number for Oskar and called them directly. They were very efficient and helpful. Within minutes I had their assurance that they would ship a new "J" shelf to my home - at no additional charge. The shelf arrived within the promised ten-days.
This unit was exactly what we ordered and works well for it's intended purpose. I would caution you to be very careful nailing on the backboard, so as not to split the center shelf. My favorite feature of the Oskar Multimedia Wood Storage Cabinet is that they include plenty of extra shelves, unlike so many other brands. I have an entire stack of shelves that I can add as needed. I would love to have three or four more of these units.

I just bought this cabinet here in Amazon Prime and it only took me two hours to assemble all by myself. It is easy to assemble as it comes with an easy to follow instruction sheet. The cabinet does satisfy my DVD/HDDVD/BD needs. I just need another one so I can consolidate my racks in to two of these cabinets. It is definitely a space saver. I do have almost a thousand DVD/HDDVD/BDs (and growing) and this cabinet does the job. I cannot wait for my second one to arrive. I highly recommend this item for those of you who have a huge collection of DVDs or CDs.
UPDATE (08/09/08):
Per my previous review of this item, I have bought and assembled a second one of this cabinet two days ago and now all my 900+ (and still groing) DVD/HDDVD/BD collection still has a 2-1/2 shelves to fill. Soon I'll be needing a third one to combo my CDs and future HD/DVD media collection. This consolidates two Atlantic Penguins, two Atlantic Elfs and two Atlantic slim DVD towers. This cabinet, as I have already mentioned, is worth every penny. A must for hardcore movie collectors.
Now I just have to disassemble the Penguins, Elfs and slim towers to put away in storage, just in case I ever need those again. You cannot go wrong with Atlantic products. I've been using them for 10 years and counting and never had any issues with them. So far, this Oskar has been a true space-saver for me.

i'm torn on this one. i like it because it suited our needs to a tee--it's EXACTLY the right size and fits like a glove where we needed it. it's also nice looking, clean lines, and holds my modest movie library.
however, it was a pain in the patootie to put together. it comes in sections, which makes sense, given the final size when it's completed. the instructions are not very clear. the illustrations seem like they're 97% thought out. it's that remaining 3% that will make you want to take the complete package and throw in the fireplace.
i think the problem is that the entire case is made of particle board and it's heavy. when you put it together, you need a surface area with its own zip code in order to assemble it. when you've complete the main assembly, it needs to be positioned upright and i discovered that the stress points holding the upper and lower halves together wanted to rip apart. actually, mine sort of did but i managed to get it upright quickly enough so that the mid-section didn't snap. lucky, i guess.
i will say that it's well machined. the metal parts (of which, they are hundreds, and with several options for completion) may or may not fit as the instructions specify. fortunately, there were enough extra metal bolts and collars that i could jimmy what i needed. it took about two hours to build the sucker but i'm pleased with it.

I had ordered a smaller storage cabinet for all my DVD movies from Amazon a few months ago, but quickly out grew its capacity. I found a larger unit made by Atlantic and ordered it asking for the two day shipping. About a week passed when I received a call from the shipper asking for a convenient time & date for me to accept delivery. This unit was delivered on the day and the time specified. The unit was quite heavy, but it was brought into my house and placed in my living room by the shipping people. The condition of this unit, which was double boxed, was excellent. The next day I began to assemble this unit. The instructions were very easy to understand and, after about an hour and a half, put it together by myself. I read all the reviews of customers who purchased this storage cabinet with some customers indicating problems with nailing the board backing to this unit and causing the center section to split. It does lay unevenly on the floor because of the base being larger than the rest of the shelving, but you are NOT using spikes nor a sledge hammer to "tack" this backing, which is pre-drilled, to the unit. Small nails are provided and work quite well. After fully assembling this unit I found it to be well worth the money spent and will hold all my DVD movies and then some. Very highly recommended....
