overall, the DVR station is very good at its jobs. as a video recorder, it is excellent. there are some learning curve items, but once you get smart, it works as advertised. the only issue i have is the charging side of the DVR station. my Archos 605 gets very warm while charging. this heat will cause the battery to have a reduced lifecycle.
since it is the only game in town. you will have to get one.
i am not a crackpot.

Yes, the station is a must have for the 05 series, but be seriously warned . . . . I have had three stations, 2 of the remotes have died so far, and both after the 30 day warranty, and ARCHOS tell me that since I did not purchase it from them it is not their problem and I am waiting to see if any Amazon merchants will source or sell the remotes only . . . . by the way, just in case you don't know, the station is all but useless without the remote.Customer Review: Great, Quality Product

This is a must buy for anyone who owns an Archos Gen 5 product. It's video recording quality is great, but not excelent(on par with Tivo). The audio and video out is great. Component video out looks amazing. The remote control is very cool, but it looks really odd and is kind of cluttered. It has SPDIF out(wich is no real use to me) It can also charge your player very quickly. First of all if you want to play any files from Ipods or mpeg files you have to drop another 40bucks on plugins. If that is not enough on the dvr station wont work unless you have wi fi at your house (which I dont). Also slow start up and the website gave me wrong advice on how to calibrate. So long story short

$40 for plug ins
$270 for Archos
you have a slow pos version of an touch Ipod!

The Archos DVR station is a must-have companion to the archos 605. It, overcourse, does not have all the features tivo does, but for the low price and no monthly payments, I'll take it any day. It also allows you to do everything you can do on your archos, on your home tv which i have found especially nifty. I can surf the web, listen to music,etc - all on my tv. Its a total must have!
