Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Archos DVR Station Gen 5 for 405, 605, and 705 PlayersCustomer Review: Great, But... Summary: 4 Stars
As everyone has already described, this is a great add on for the 605 wifi. Only stipulation, no tuner. You have to manually set your cable box to autotune the channel to sync the recording (i.e. not a true DVR). Other than that, it is excellent in its recording capabilities. The only problem (and I am just being picky now) is that S-Video is your best bet to connect to the digital signal from a cable box; composite cabling gives you a black and white signal (but on this screen size, I can't really tell the difference between HD and SD). FYI, it works with Comcast digital cable service.
Customer Review: Excellent accessory for the Archos 605 Wifi media player Summary: 5 Stars
This docking station works beautifully with my home entertainment center, enabling me to play music, video, and photo slideshows on my Archos 605 WiFi media player on my TV and sound system. I can also connect to my wireless network to access network files and the Internet. Response time through the provided remote can be a little slow, but with a little perseverance I can do *most* of the things I want without trying my wife's patience. I haven't tried recording DishNet TV through my satellite receiver yet, but I will post again once I've attempted that trick.
Customer Review: Works well Summary: 4 Stars
I often use this to record a show if I am busy elsewhere. It works very well for recording, but the menu is sometimes a hassle. Also, I believe that you have to have the cable box set on the correct channel to record.
I also want to note that for a time the server was down that you use to update your TV guide (which is normally as easy process). It's back up and working now though.
Overall I would recommend this if you do not have TiVo or a DVR and you like to record shows for later viewing. That it works as charger is a good bonus.
Customer Review: Understand What You're Getting Summary: 2 Stars
A "DVR" without a tuner seems hardly worthwhile. You can't connect your cable to the unit, you're going to have something else to tune and convert your cable signal to composite, RGB, or S-Video. Then you're going to have to carefully position the IR emitter of the Archos DVR station so that it's pointed into the IR receiver of your tuner. In all likelihood this means you can't put the DVR station where you want it.
You'll be better off without this. Get a tuner for your computer, use it as your DVR and transfer the recordings via USB.
Customer Review: Great product Summary: 4 Stars
Overall I think this is a great poroduct. It works well with the Archos 705 media player.
The only drawback so far is that the files that are created do not seem to be transferable to other media players such as an ipod. I am not sure if I just don't understand how to do it, but when I try to put them onto my ipod it says the files are not a type that the ipod can play.
Other than that it works great for tranfering tv programs, dvds, and vhs tapes to your Archos media player.
