Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Archos DVR Station Gen 5 for 405, 605, and 705 PlayersCustomer Review: Mine was defective, but almost a must have for Archos 605 Summary: 4 Stars
When I received mine. I could do everything except use the audio out. If I did the tv or audio out source would develop a screaming line noise. I used the unit to easily convert my camcorder movies to the Archos 605 160Gb. I also used it as a quick charge to the Archos 605.
I was forced to return the defective unit, but plan to rebuy when I get credited for my return. The remote/keyboard feature is cool, but I have a small computer already attached to my plasma with wireless kyboard and mouse. But, for the average person...internet on their tv is cool. Web browser plug in is required. I think it is $30. Hope this is helpful.
Customer Review: DVR kills the battery Summary: 1 Stars
A word of caution for the DVR unit. Leaving the archos 605 docked to a plugged-in DVR 24/7 will kill the battery. My 605 160gb was perfect for about a year. Then , i left it on the DVR for week straight, something i've never done before, and the battery only lasted 5 minutes after that. Before, I got a few hours of video time. Apparently, you're not supposed to leave the unit plugged in and attached to AC power for long periods of time. Which to me, makes no sense for a DVR, a funciton that relies on always being connected (and on ac power) to record shows throughout the week/month untli you're ready to watch on the go.
Customer Review: Great addition to a great little player Summary: 4 Stars
I recently picked up the DVR station mainly to enable me to stream media wirelessly from my computer. Previous to this, I'd have to burn a disc every time I wanted to get something from computer to television.
I hooked it up with a set of component video cables, and a single RCA for the digital audio, plugged in the power and set the unit in the dock.
My home theater setup consists of a 720p 42" plasma and a HDMI switching amplifier, and I've got to say the media I've played thus far looks and sounds great.
A worthy addition to the Archos player, and with a great remote!
Customer Review: A Must Have for the 605 Summary: 4 Stars
The DVR Station works as described. The DVR function is a significant portion of the 605 capability. It was a snap to cable it, and the IR setup, to control the S-Video source, was one of the easiest yet. The programming guide was also easy to configure, and use (not sure about the fee structure after the "free" one year period).
I also liked the external charger (didn't have to wait 24 hours to charge before "playing with it"). The docking station makes it easy to connect & disconnect, which is often during the setup phase.
I gave it only four stars because of the lack of a Tuner.
Customer Review: DVR Station for Gen 5 Summary: 5 Stars
DVR Station for Gen 5 is great "Once you buy the program from ARCHOS", which is not included with hardware. It can record from from a TV, DVD, RGB (not the new HDMI, which shouldn't matter as the resolution is great, even if you shoot it back to the Tv from the device, rips to around 1GB for a 2 1/2 hr movie). Again it rips any movie you plug into it, it does coem with a fat remote the size of your palm of your hand, still trying to figure how it works. You can move the rip movie over to your system.
You stil lhave to purchase the correct adapter for your Archos unit to sit on the DVR for a snug fit..
