Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Original Apple USB Power Adapter for iPod, iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3Gs

Customer Review: Works great with iPhone 3GS, 3rd/4th Gen iPods
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased 4 of these Adapters from AccessoryOne and they are the correct Adapter (after Recall "Green Dot" Adapter) from Apple. These work very well with the original Apple Cable and with my 3rd & 4th Generation iPods, my iPhone 3GS and the original iPhone. The Model No. for the original Adapter is: A1265, from Apple in Japan. The 4 items I purchased had this same model no. Just make sure you get the Adapter with the Green Dot or it won't work on the 3GS iPhones.

As another poster said my only compliant is the prongs do not fold, but neither do the prongs on the original Apple Adapter that came with my iPhone 3GS.

However there is an Adapter with retractable prongs Apple USB Power Adapter for iPod (White) and it does work with all of my items cited above, although it is twice the size of the Adapter above, a little heavier, and a little more expensive, but you get both the Adapter and the Cable, and if these are original Apple products this is a good deal. Note, that I did not buy my retractable Adapter from this link, but rather from the Apple Store a few years ago. It is called the iPod USB Power Adapter. The Model No. is: A1205. it appears the Adapter in the above link is the same item. My friend did purchase the Adapter from this link and it works.

Customer Review: Charges iPad in 6 hours, Green Dot, Apple Logo
Summary: 5 Stars

The unit I received from DSI was sturdy, had a Green Dot, "Designed by Apple" printing and UL listing and is a Brand new unit.

I have read reviews that this 5 watt unit does not charge an Apple iPad properly, and takes days to charge. Not the case, as if you shut down the Apple iPad after it boots upon connecting and keep it powered off, it charged my iPad 3G 64GB model from a 3% charged battery to 100% in less that 6 hours. Looks like you can charge an iPad with a 5 watt power adapter in less than half a day if you power the iPad off during charging.

The 'Green Dot" is just that. It is not a green LED light. I have never seen a green LED light on these square micro bricks.

My shipment even came with a generic 3 foot USB to Apple cord at no charge. All for $6. What a bargin.
The cable does not allow a charge from a laptop PC to iPad. It just allows you to Sync and to use USB power intead of drainig battery. Of course this functions as the power cord on the charger as well.

Recommend for an alternate backup AC adapter for travel or as as a spare. Beats the $30 price for the 10 watt model as a backup.

Amazon is a great place to purchase these type of items.

Customer Review: Works on iPod Touch 2G, but does NOT work on iPod Shuffle 2G
Summary: 3 Stars

Works on iPod Touch 2G, but does NOT work on iPod Shuffle 2G. This one has the green dot and the tapered plugs.

If I plug the Shuffle 2G USB adapter, which has the Shuffle 2G sitting on top of it, into my computer's USB port, the amber LED will blink continuously until it is fully charged, then the LED will turn into steady green. This is how it should be.

But when I plug in Shuffle 2G's USB adapter to this Apple USB Power Adapter, then plug this combination into an electrical outlet, the Shuffle's LED will blink amber three times, then it will shut off. No charging will occur.

I am quite certain that this is a genuine Apple product, and Apple's website also indicates that it is compatible with 13 models of iPods, including Shuffle 2G.

My conclusion is that this original Apple USB Power Adapter could be slightly defective, not compatible with all listed iPods. That may be why it is sold here at a much lower price compared to one sold in an Apple Store.

It works with my iPod Touch 2G, so I will keep it.

Customer Review: Not an OEM Adapter
Summary: 1 Stars

This is not an OEM adapter as listed. I own several OEM adapters and while this one looks similar, it is not the same. The build quality of this one is not as good: the housing is thinner and it weighs less. The OEM adapter is made in Japan, while this one is made in China. The photo is of an OEM adapter, and while this one looks almost identical, it is not the same as pictured.

In short, cosmetically it appears to be a good Chinese copy, all the way down to the green dot. If you didn't have the original adapter, you would never know the difference. The two adapters I received appeared to work on an Ipod Touch 3G and 4G, and an iPhone 4, in the 5 minutes I tested them, but I have not verified if they actually charge the device. However, on an iPhone 3GS, I get an error message "Charging is not supported with this accessory" which kind of defeats the purpose of buying it.

I would not buy again, and I am going to see about getting a return authorization.

Customer Review: Just what you need in the hotel room.
Summary: 5 Stars

I didn't want to take the expensive risk of lugging my laptop PC on trips just to be able to keep my iPod Touch charged. So this little AC adapter is just the thing to have in the hotel room to keep the device charged. Latest hotel stay I even found the hotel clock radio had an audio cord on it, so I could feed music from the iPod to the speakers of the clock-radio and the AC adapter kept the iPod charged while I was listening to my tunes.

As part of my purchase, I also picked up a spare USB cable. My other scrounged part was a sandwich-sized zip-top bag so the AC adapter and the USB cable can be bagged and tidily tossed into the suitcase. The trip worked out nicely.

As pictured, this charger does not come with a USB cable of its own. If you are the sort who worries you'll lose your cable on a trip, then pick up an extra cable when you buy the AC adapter.
