Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of AppleCare Protection Plan for iPod touch/classic OLD VERSIONCustomer Review: Worth every penny!! Summary: 5 Stars
I got a 30gb iPod about 23 months ago in trade for some work I did for an acquaintance. At the time I didn't even know about the protection plan. It wasn't until I realized how much I loved this little electronic wonder that I started to worry about how I would ever replace it if it stopped working.
About 11 months after I received the iPod I purchased the protection plan from Apple. The sales rep I spoke with was well informed and very helpful. I had actually purchased the plan 11 months and 30 days after my initial iPod purchase date. I was assured that as long as I bought the plan before the original warranty expired that I could register it to my iPod at any time. She was right.
When my iPod started losing charge and shutting down intermittently about a month ago I was worried but then I remembered the protection plan. I called them up and they had the shipping materials at my door the next day. I sent the iPod out the day after and after 1 day of transit, 1 day of troubleshooting, and 1 day of return shipping I have a newly refurbished iPod back in my hands. No questions, no runaround, no hassle.
I would recommend this product to ANYONE with an iPod. These things are just too damn cool to risk losing.
Customer Review: Useless Summary: 1 Stars
I have had five i pods to date, 3 of which died(hard drives) and another that was given away. So i procured an Apple Care Protection Plan for my latest investment. At any rate it wasn't until about a year ago that i received my new "Classic" which had functioned well until one day when the screen went half black(not dropped or cracked). I called into "Apple Care" and after roughly 10 minutes on hold I spoke to a rep. For the most part the claim notification went smoothly and after 2 days I received a package form FedEx for shipment. After a three day wait I found out that they had "DECLINED" my service/replacement under the pretense that it was "ABUSED OR ACCIDENTALLY DAMAGED" and the item was shipped back. Perhaps i misunderstood the value of the "plan" but after careful analyst i discovered that the plan does NOT cover; "extreme environment (temp. and humidity), physical/electrical stress, power surges, lightning, static electricity, fire, ACTS OF GOD(???), or other external causes. Because this is the case i now have a near-useless ipod with totally useless coverage. Its safe to say that i am justifiably aggravated and wish i could never purchase another product of apples' again, unfortunately this is not the case.
Customer Review: Good protection but not truely 2 years! Summary: 4 Stars
Two things to note. Yes, you get two years but not if you bought the iPod from Amazon. According to Apple, they base the warranty date on when Apple sold it to Amazon as the purchase date. So if Amazon got it on Dec 14, 2008 and you did not buy it until February 14, 2009, your two years began on Dec 14 but you would be good until Dec 14, 2010 when purchasing the APP.
Another thing. Do you live in North Carolina? If so, forget trying to register the warranty online. It won't let you. This is because Apple has a different warranty service for North Carolina residents. You must call 1-800-APL-CARE and perform a voice registration. I bought four warranties from Apple for the two Nano 4G's and two Touch 2G's that I bought from Amazon. Though I only lost a few days warranty on three of them due to high Christmas demand, I did lose 4 weeks on my 16GB Touch because it was sitting on the shelf at Amazon.
Customer Review: Water Damage should be humidity damage Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased the one year warranty for my iPod touch 1st generation, and after about 6 months it would no longer connect or charge unless held to the cable with rubber bands. So I send off my ipod to apple and they tell me that they won't repair it under warranty because of water damage, and they had the guts to tell me that they could repair it for $229! Now I travel around the Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, and Texas coast areas for work and I reach some humid areas but I've never had another electronic device utterly fail just from humidity. The ipod never touched water except what was in the air. DO NOT BUY!
Customer Review: Don't leave home without it! Summary: 5 Stars
You MUST buy Apple Care if you get any apple product. It fully covers your iPod if anything happens in two years... and it really works. Also, it gives you as much tech help as you need during that two-year period... this is a no-brainer. I's so worth the small investment up-front to have help at any apple store to fix it or explain anything. Or you can call apple anytime for assistance. I had to replace two ipods because they died for no apparent reason (I think they were exposed to magnets) and Apple replaced them under Apple Care with no questions asked.
