Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple iPod touch 8 GB (2nd Generation--without iPhone OS 3.1 Software) [Previous Model]

Customer Review: Thought it was awesome 1 Stars

Several friends had the Ipod Touch. Though I am not a music fanatic, the number of applications available and the ease of use made it a "must have". I was so impressed with mine that I ordered one for my husband who was trying to find a replacement for his Palm. We made the appropriate phone calls to Apple to verify the ability to "backup" the applications to a laptop. No problem! So my husband spent days manually transferring information from his Palm to the Ipod and finally he was done. He had found applications from Ipod app store that were as good or better than anything on the Palm. He was thrilled. He thought it was absolutely awesome until about a month later, he lost it at the airport. Though disappointed, he wasn't too concerned since he had double passworded everything so in 10 unsuccessful attempts at the password, it deleted all information. So, I ordered a new Ipod Touch to replace it. In a day, we had the new Ipod. My husband called Apple to find out what he needed to do to sync it to a computer that would be searching for the other Ipod. They were very helpful and walked him through it. He attempted to access his passwords, his banking information and a number of other items. The applications were there after being synced but none of the personal information he had spent days inputting was there. He called Apple. After six (6) hours on the phone, they finally decided that though the applications are backed up, the information isn't. He lost everything except music, pictures and games. So, if all you want are games and music, it would be great. If you want something that will hold personal information, I wouldn't recommend it unless you can afford to lose everything you input. He immediately gave it to our daughter since it was useless for what he wanted and needed. It was promptly replaced with the Blackberry Tour...grave improvement. That will be the last Apple anything.

Customer Review: 5 stars for the awesome device, 3 stars for the lousy battery
Summary: 4 Stars

First of all, I absolutely love the device itself. Without going into details about all of the wonderful features of this device, which other reviewers here have already done to death, I will just say that this is one of the most impressive gadgets I've ever played with. The things this little device can do and do very well are just mind blowing. Alas, if only it had a reasonably powerful battery to go with it.....

I'm very disappointed with the short battery life. Sure, if you just listen to songs you'll probably get ~35 hours of playtime as claimed by Apple, but who amongst us bought this expensive device just to listen to songs? It's too expensive to be used simply as an MP3 player. For me, it was the Touch's wi-fi capability that was THE main buying point and in that department I found the result to be decidedly mixed. While the wi-fi feature works flawlessly and beautifully, it just saps the life out of the battery in no time. In my experience, using wi-fi continuously drains the battery (to the 20% level) within 2-3 hours. Even if you implement all the power saving features recommended by Apple & other users, you would still be lucky to get 2 days of playtime even under normal usage (1-2 hours of internet and 4-5 hours of music & apps). I don't mind charging my Touch every day but the downside is every charge brings the battery that much closer to its end, which is about 400 charges according to Apple. In other words, this $200 + device will be basically useless within 2 years unless you pay Apple $80 to have the battery replaced. Just think about that. Your beloved Touch will be useless within 2 years, or sooner if you charge it every day, unless you've no problem forking over $80 to have the battery replaced.

Conclusion: A+ for the device, B- for the battery.

Customer Review: Absolute Greatness
Summary: 5 Stars

I would definitely give this 5 stars anyday. The iPod is so sleek and light and fits into your hand easily without any discomfort or pain. The touch-screen is very responsive and I've never had any problems with it. I don't have very wide or fat fingers, but I've heard complaints from people who did and they seem to all suggest getting a stylus. Once again I don't have any problem with it, so it works out for me. If you're in a good wi-fi hotspot(with high-speed internet) youtube streams greatly, usually never stops to load, and safari runs swiftly, about the speed you'd expect from a moderate computer. The iPod never gets hot while in use. You may see it increase several degrees while charging, but that's normal for most electric devices. Apps I would have to say are the best part of this product. I could spend hours playing them. Hundreds of free ones to choose from, so money isn't a deal if you were worried, but some of the best ones do cost money, but I would say it's worth it. The user interface was very easy to get used to. At first,(unless you've had an iPod touch 1st Gen) you won't know what some of the buttons do, but it shouldn't take more than a few days to figure it all out.
Oh and the videos(at least the ones bought from iTunes) play perfectly and I have watched a full 90 minute movie with my iPod not even fully charged, for those worried about battery life. I've heard 24 of just playing music is the average battery life, but if you're playing with apps or watching movies(especially if you have your brightness turned all the way up) will burn that battery life a lot quicker.
Well I covered what I thought was most important, and hope my review will help you if you were still pondering weather or not you should buy this product. Fully recommend it.

Customer Review: The IPhone without cellular network (5- stars)
Summary: 5 Stars

The iPod Touch is so much more than a digital music player; it also has wireless connectivity, a calendar/PDA program, photo storage, video playback, and applications galore. The Touch is essentially an iPhone without the ability to call and without universal wireless access; you will have to connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot or your home wireless network to access the internet.

The Touch comes preloaded with Safari (Apple's internet browser), iTunes, a clock, iCal (daily organizer), a calculator, a notebook program, direction connection to YouTube, Mail, and a few others. These applications are only the beginning, however. The iTunes store offers hundreds of free apps that you'll want to browse through before you begin to consider the paid ones. Note that certain apps, such the New York Times, will work only when you have wireless access to the internet.

You navigate the Touch with a tap or a flick of your finger. The glassy black surface gets fingerprints if you even *think* of touching it, but they are easily wiped off with the included microfiber cloth. The biggest drawback to the Touch is capacity. Unlike with the iPod Classic, you probably aren't going to be able to carry around your entire music library, especially since the applications will take space as well.

Consumers need to weigh whether they want to manage their music more from the computer if they get the Touch or whether they would rather have the dedicated, huge capacity Apple iPod classic 120 GB Silver (6th Generation) LATEST MODEL.) In my mind, other brands simply do not compete with Apple technology and user interface.

Customer Review: Well iPhone is NOT a smartphone - Professionals / Managers - Stay away
Summary: 1 Stars

Trust me this phone is for KIDS.. not for professionals or managers.

This product is really cool.. very stylish the touch screen feature is really great !!!

However, it is NOT a smart phone.. here is why

1) Text editing features are very basic. Almost of no use atall.

2) There is no backup copy of iPhone that you can work and edit on your computer. Any backup it takes, is to bring up new iPhone and send your usage Data to APPLE.

3) Bluetooth, is useless. Infact there is no bluetooth. The only connection it allows is for Bluetooth headset. Where as with my Q9H Bluetooth i used to roam in office, while being connected to my computer all the time.

4) No facility to keep a copy of documents on iPhone.. of course no possibility to edit or ready them as well.
WHAT a shame..

(note - Documents as email attachment can be opened in iPhone)

5) Most of the Smartphone usually go into silent/vibration mode if there is a meeting on calendar at that time. However, iPhone keeps singing and there is no way to silent it OR miss the call.. I asked iPhone helpdesk to be sure, they suggested me to switch off the iPhone (!!!), or keep it in Vibration mode all the time :)) i love these folks..

6) Lastly, I had used my previous Smartphone Q9H to note random thoughts and i would expand/work on them latter. However with iPhone you can create Notes but can't transfer or edit them on your computer.

Lastly if you call iPhone for a small thing, they will ask your phone twice, ask for iPhone serial number, your address, zip code and many more details before they can answer a simple question.

I tell you it tests my patience..
