Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple iPod touch 8 GB (2nd Generation) [OLD MODEL]Customer Review: fun and useful new addition to my technology toolbox Summary: 4 Stars
This is my first iPod Touch. It's the 8GB 3rd Generation model.
My thinking was, the 8GB would be fine since I intended on using this
mainly as a pocket computer for email/internet and I don't have
a huge amount of music/pics/movies that I wish to carry around
everywhere I go. Ordered it from Amazon on Sat morning and it was
on my doorstep Monday morning! Mad props for Amazon on that one!
The Touch is everything I expected it to be and more. Am having a lot
of fun with it and have loaded up some family pics, video, and music
but I don't have a huge library of music so the 8 gigger should do
me fine for awhile.
To touch base on some of the + features. The wifi works flawlessly on mine.
I've only had this iPod for five days now but I've connected to wireless
networks other than my own and it hasn't missed a beat.
I've been using the alarm clock feature every morning since I got this thing! Love it!
The screen is amazing! Really is crystal clear. Very impressed with that. Loaded up a movie
and even though it's small, it is very clear and fun to watch on the iPod
when on the go. Makes sitting in a doctors office waiting room far more tolerable. ;-)
The Touch screen is very easy to use. I can see the keyboard being somewhat difficult for
people with big hands, but it works well for me.
I like everything about this little device except the earphones that come with it are junk.
They hurt after just a few minutes. I'm pretty sure that Apple could include a more
comfortable set if they wanted to.
edit: I had this one for 4 weeks and loaded up a bunch of games, music, photos, and 4 movies.
Began noticing low Ram and choppy play with some of my favorite games so I sold
the 8GB and bought a 32GB which is much better. Never goes low on Ram now.
For people who may not load up a bunch of stuff I'd say the 8GB is fine but if you
will be loading it up with a lot I'd say get the 32GB right out of the gate.
I bought both of them from Amazon and couldn't have been more pleased with the transactions.
I'd strongly recommend ordering a case/cover. There are a wide range of covers/cases.
I've got the Speck CandyShell and love it.
Customer Review: Awesome ipod! Summary: 5 Stars
The Ipod touch is a totally fun and cool device that I have really enjoyed since I bought it from Amazon about a month ago. It arrived quickly and in perfect, brand new condition. It's really a ton of fun, and the perfect device to use for games, music, and social networks. Here's some quick pro's and con's of the Ipod touch, 3rd Generation (8GB).
Pros:
-Looks sleek and is surprisingly durable. Very portable...however I did buy a case just to add some protection.
-Very easy to use. Didn't take me long to figure out how to use it at all.
-Sounds great!
-Very easy to use with itunes.
-Great image quality.
-Usually the internet is pretty fast.
-Really fun!!!
-Lots of apps (many are even free!) that make it easy to play games, keep track of work schedule, use social networks such as facebook and twitter, and do easy online shopping. The apps are one of the things that make this ipod so great.
Cons:
-No Camera. This would really be a great feature. It would be so neat to be able to take pictures and post on facebook, email the picture, set as backround... ect. It is a pain to have to download pictures onto the ipod from my computer.
-Battery Life. As long as I am just listening to music, it lasts a long time. But if I go onto the internet, or even use the apps, sometimes the battery life can be as low as a few hours.
-Screen gets very dirty and greasy quickly. I had to buy a screen protector, just because I wanted the screen to stay safe and clean.
-One of my computers did not recognize it. Though I do not know if this is a problem with the ipod or my computer, it is definitly a bummer.
I would say that the pros outweigh the cons. While the cons are smaller things that can be dealt with, I really have enjoyed the ipod. It is so much fun, very easy to use, and even useful for things like checking weather, sending emails, ect.
Amazon has made the Ipod Touch more affordable. You can save nearly $30 by ordering it off of amazon vs. apple because the price is already lower, plus you do not have to worry about tax. I'm glad I bought this ipod, and I would recommend this device for anyone looking for a fun, easy to use ipod with lots of fun extras like apps, email, and even more.
5 stars!!!!
Customer Review: Well worth the money, despite it's very few flaws Summary: 4 Stars
First off I'll say that I have the 8GB version of this, so this review is entirely in regards to that fact.
The fit and function of the iPod is fantastic. It's sleek, good looking, very easy to use and even though it weighs next to nothing it is very tough and feels like it was built like a tank.
The web browser (Safari) is very reliable and fast, and the wireless works great. The range is a bit shorter than say my laptop, but it works far enough away. The apps you can download are plentiful and very easy to manage. The only bad thing about them is I wish a lot more of them were free. Once you download a half dozen .99 cent apps or so, the charges can start to pile up a lot.
My only problems with it are as follows:
The low-end model should've been 10GB, rather than only 8... which in reality translates to between 6 and 7 after the iPhone OS is installed (by default, of course).
Some extra customization features would've been good. Such as being able to put separate passlock codes for music, pictures, videos, etc. But that's neither here nor there - to each his own.
Lastly, the internal speaker isn't anything to get excited about. It's very quiet and sounds somewhat muffled. The EQ is the standard, plain-jane "Rock", "R&B", etc. job. There is no definitive frequency range adjustment to speak of. However, I suppose you can't expect that sort of feature on a mp3 player. I'm an audiophile though, so I'm picky in that respect.
Other than those minor issues, I really enjoy the iPod. The performance and reliability is top-notch and there are seemingly endless options and unique "tweeks" to tinker around with on it. It's basically a handheld computer and I've hardly used my home PC to browse the web at all since I got my iPod. You can even get apps to text message for free! Also, if you get the microphone for it you could use it as a phone as well. But with that said, the online features will obviously only work when you are connected to a WiFi network... unlike a mobile phone. But for a mp3 player to do all that this does, is simply awesome.
I'm very glad I bought it and would recommend it to anyone. As the title of my review states... it's well worth the money!
Customer Review: Great Product... But Not Truly 3G Hardware Summary: 4 Stars
The interface is great, very intuitive with lots of room for innovation. I miss having physical buttons like other iPod's, but the touch screen is better in most cases. Music navigation is great, watching movies is great. Lots of really cool apps available. I can type notes and emails on it, and browse the Internet with almost the usability of a desktop in a lot of cases.
Bluetooth audio works great, maybe even better than the iPod Bluetooth adapter I have.
It's also nice to have a built-in speaker. It's not great, of course, but when I just want a quick listen it's nice to have it.
The Bluetooth and WiFi integration are very nice. Bluetooth is easier to use than on my computer, as are some WiFi things like logging into the network at school.
One downside is needing a WiFi connection for Internet, but the mail and maps apps both cache data that you can use offline. You can look up an email or directions while you're connected, and then have the data available later. Some apps are easily used offline, too, such as the [...] app.
It can also sync contacts with sources like Gmail, which is nice.
I could also use more battery life. Playing music doesn't drain the battery much, but after maybe 4 or 5 hours of using Safari or watching a movie, the battery is done. 2-4 hours for playing games. It's not terrible, but it could be better.
Another thing I really disliked was issues with the app store. I used the app store on the iPod to download and install a bunch of apps (which was really handy), but then they all started crashing (which was really frustrating). I read on the Internet that the iPod's app store was to blame. I wiped it and started over, using iTunes to add apps, and haven't had a problem since. But most apps downloaded directly to the iPod would not copy to the computer, so if I ever have to restore everything, it will be nice having all of the apps on the computer.
Also, I think I could have done better research before choosing this model. Even though it's marketed as 3G, it's really the old 2G hardware with updated software. To get the newer hardware (matches the iPhone 3GS... faster processor, more RAM, better graphics), you have to get the 32 or 64 GB version.
Customer Review: Why did I wait so long to buy this? Summary: 5 Stars
I've always viewed the iPod Touch as a premium MP3 player. However, over time people convinced me that the iPod Touch is so much more.
Music is only one of the many reasons that I finally decided to get an iPod Touch.
My primary motivator is that we have a family business that depends heavily on calendar scheduling. I had become accustomed to using Google Calendar to keep track of appointments as much as six months out and had a basic system going where I would be emailed/texted one day before and one hour before each appointment. Now that I have an iPod Touch I can sync my calendar and no longer need to set alerts or call for clarification on truncated information.
I also have the opportunity a few times a day to access free wifi so I can check emails and get weather updates.
It's nice to have all of my music, pictures, appointments, emails, and so much more in one place. In the past, even though I have a cell phone, I still carried a calculator, GPS, printed agenda from Google Calendar, picture keychain, a 12" notebook computer, and an MP3 player. This is slowly replacing each of those items and doing a better job than my previous choices.
I hope to see municipal Wifi come at an affordable price in the near future so I can dump the GPS and rely solely on my iPod Touch. If Apple decides to add in a decent point and shoot camera (I've heard rumors!) then this will truly become irreplaceable.
Even if you're not an audiophile, you might just find enough apps to make the iPod Touch your first choice ultra portable organizer/computer/media player/ebook reader/gps/portable game player to justify the cost. I haven't had a lot of time yet to delve into the thousands of apps available, but according to some people I talked to, many apps are free to try and cheap to buy. Thinking back, I probably spent over $200 on a Sony Clie organizer not too many years ago, and this is light years ahead of good organziers - a truly outstanding product.
The only reason I opted for the 8 gb version of this is because I hope to get one with a camera next year and couldn't justify the increased cost when I don't plan to keep this one forever.
