Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple iPod touch 8 GB (1st Generation) OLD MODELCustomer Review: Insert Divinyls or Mc Hammer joke here Summary: 4 Stars
The ipod touch is a great mp3 player. But you already know that as iPod, like Band-aid or Murphy Bed, as a product name has become a catch all title for all mp3 players. So instead of focusing on the positive, I'll focus on the negative.
Touchscreen- yeah it gets smudgy, but thats not really a big deal, just clean it or use a screen protector (although those are hard as hell to get on right sans instructions). However sometimes the touching doest register, something i notice mostly when i use the side of my thumb. Not enough to really be a bother, just something to work on.
Apps. The Itunes apps for the Ipod touch are sorely lacking, in fact most of the good ones are simply previously worked on free programs. As such jailbreaking an ipod touch is a must and even for someone tech savvy it can be a pain in the nuts.
Buttons. The touch screen is nice, but some actual buttons would help, such as a volume button. Also when selecting a portion of a large file is nest to impossible with the touch. with the nano it was easy with its fine circle button thingie. But using a slider on an audio file that is 2hours and 40 minutes is something i challenge anyone to do well.
That said, it's great. However, if you are going to get an Ipod touch, get the 8 gig. I have a ton of crap on mine and its barely half full.
Customer Review: The best multimedia player I've owned. Summary: 5 Stars
I've had my iPod Touch for over a year now and have enjoyed every minute of it. Music is easy to sync and iTunes easy to use. Coverflow is beautiful on the iPod Touch. Videos are crisp and there is tons of content to choose from in the iTunes store. Photos look great as well.
I also enjoy the internet capabilities through Safari. It's an excellent browsing experience that's truly unparalleled. There are a few other widgets too, like notes, calendar, and weather, that I find handy.
The App Store great as well (of course). There are thousands of apps available are available in free and paid version. Some of my favorites: Doodle Jump, Tap Tap Revenge, Tweetie, iCanSketchit, and more. The App Store adds a lot of value to the iPod Touch.
Jailbreaking your iPod will be nice too. Lots of great themes and customization options. Also, you can "hide" icons with Boss Prefs or Poof! to clear up your screens.
I received this as a gift, but I would have felt definite sticker shot if I bought it at its original price of $299.99. The iPod Touch is a great device, but the upfront price should probably be lowered nowadays, considering the iPhone 3G handset is now just $99.99.
If you do buy an iPod Touch, you will have tons of fun with it.
Enjoy
Customer Review: Perfect mp3 player, but pricey Summary: 5 Stars
For those of you that want that little extra from the mp3 player, then the iPod is for you. I chose it because I didn't want to be listening to music all the time; I wanted to be watching videos, surfing Safari, playing on apps (soon), etc. Yep, it has solved all my problems.
Pros: Very stylish, looks good, fantastic user interface, sound quality is good (but not as good as other mp3 players), large screen, video plays crisp and clear, Safari browser works well, iTunes store is easy to use, sturdy and stable player, new applications make it even more value for money.
Cons: Uses iTunes syncing stuff (arrghhh!), Apple charge for everything in the update line, battery life isn't good, back of iPod is prone to fingerprints and scratches, data can be lost during syncing, the price.
Generally, this product is a must buy. With promise from Apple of their App Store coming in June, the abilities of the touch will be expanded, and if you are willing to pay for these updates, then you will benefit from this. The price at the moment is still very high, but if you want an mp3 player that can do everything, then it is worth every penny (or cent). If you prefer style over practicality, then the iPod touch is for you.
Customer Review: Ipod touch 8 GB Summary: 5 Stars
The Ipod Touch is a device with an attractive set of features for a mini portable video player. The Ipod Touch is clearly an IPhone's clone without the option to call someone. Most users will also need to buy a protective case to protect it's the front screen and the back is covered with a glossy, scratch-prone feeling. The Touch supports standard AAC, MP3, Audible, WAV, and AIFF. Video format support is the same from the Iphone H.264/MP4 files playability. It includes some cool applications but The Safari Web browser allows you to check anything in a hurry. The Ipod Touch lasted an average of 23 hours for audio playback and 6 hours for video which is more than enough. It features two buttons first one on the face of the player used for calling up the main menu and a screen deactivation button found on the top-left edge of the case. Both the Ipod Touch and Iphone allow users to browse, preview, purchase, and download music from the new iTunes Wi-Fi music store. If you want to play a game it shows you how to play right away. It is an undeniably cool product that continues Apple's design of the latest gadget that is simple to use anywhere you go. Overall this device makes everything simple to use with just a flick of your finger.
Customer Review: Apple is not committed to after sales support/warranty protection Summary: 1 Stars
Like millions of others that were drawn by the Apple Iphone, I bought mine in Aug '07 and in addition to the phone purchased a 3 yr (extended) warranty plan. A few days ago my phone stopped working altogether and when I took it to the Apple store, I was told that the phone was water damaged as indicated by the indicator. Therefore my warranties would not hold and I would have to buy a new phone. I found that to be a ridiculous technical judgement (and service) because having owned the phone I know that the worst case contact with water could be a slight drizzle that escaped from the sides of an umbrella. And that is expected to be weathered by any phone. My blackberry never failed me all these years!
Why would I ever buy an Apple product when today I lost all faith in the company. I believe they are cheating millions of people with a product that looks cool without honoring their commitments to repair faulty devices. They even hire 'cool' looking people at the store. For what? It's all about looks...looks that cloak bad customer service. Today I also realized another thing - I know the IPhone will not last as the hottest selling phone...It lacks what the Blackberry and Nokia learnt long ago - good customer service
