Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple iPod touch 32 GB (2nd Generation) [Previous Model]Customer Review: Coolest thing ever Summary: 5 Stars
As someone who already has a pretty good mobile phone and an 80GB video compatible Ipod, I didn't pay too much attention when Apple introduced the Iphone awhile ago. I didn't pay too much attention either when the Ipod Touch came out, until seeing a friend's a few monthes ago.
I was intrigued, so my son and I started searching for apps on the iTunes site. I found enough cool games and such (tower defense type, strategy) and my son started building up a library of police/helicoper apps, so I decided to take the plunge. Bestbuy and others had the 32GB version for $399 plus tax, so Amazon's $369 plus free shipping, no tax, and returnable made sense.
I couldn't be happier. The screen graphics are great, sound is decent enough for games (when I don't have the headset in), they've improved the way to find songs more quickly over the Ipod, and it's pretty slim.
Strangely enough, I'm not playing games as much as I thought. I have quickly synced to my home email and Facebook accounts, so I find myself using this now to stay in touch due to it's connecting to my home wireless network. I'm also having a blast with other apps including weather, real estate (what houses are for sale within 10 miles of my house?), USA today, and various sports apps (to catch up on my fantasy players).
My only gripe is that I wish the battery lasted a bit longer. Aside from that, it was a pretty good investment.
Customer Review: So much better than I expected ... And I expected a lot Summary: 5 Stars
I really think apple has missed the mark advertising the iPod touch mainly as a game machine . The apps are extraordinarily useful ... I'm very glad I decided ( at the last minute ) to get the 32 gb model. I'm not using the iPod portion that much --some music and podcasts, but the add on apps have been very VERY useful. The screen is gorgeous , the keypad easy to use. If I had to quibble I'd say my biggest gripe is that flash and shockwave don't work yet. I know why apple has done that, but it's inconvenient. Youtube videos are fine. Battery life okay if you arent on the internet the whole time -- i am, so it gets about five or six hours.Wifi reception has been excellent. Built in speaker is tinny and not loud enough, but i rarely use it so i didnt take off for that. There's an app to share files with your computer wirelessly, which is handy for transferring stuff via webdav connection to read later when you have no connection. Another app lets you capture articles from news and web sources to revisit later. There's even an app to make voip calls from the touch.(you have to add earphones with a mic -- picked up a pair on amazon for $7 and now make occasional calls via Internet. there have been a few times that I REALLY missed not being able to connect when away from wifi, but I do not miss the 2 yr contract to at&t. if you have wireless handy and don't need a full service phone contract this is the answer. Love it!
Customer Review: Certainly not perfect, but good for trips Summary: 3 Stars
About 15 minutes after I bought my TOUCH, I think they came out with a 64gb model for basically the same price. Who knew? I was going on a trip which required a 6 hour layover and wanted some entertainment to take along. This did the trick, although I do wish I'd had the option at the time for 64gb. I maxed out the 32 gb in no time at all. I think I've got about 400+ songs and maybe 8 movies on it right now. In retrospect, the 160gb iPod would have served me much better in the long run. While it lacks the great screen of the TOUCH it holds so much more and the controls are considerable more people friendly.
Ah well, live and learn. I like my TOUCH. I do think there are many ways to improve it, though. For instance, the controls are difficult. If I want to turn the volume up or down, it's sometimes a fight. Heaven help me if I want to move a little forward or back in a movie because it just ain't gonna happen. I accidently discovered the DELETE feature which was a wonderful surprise. In fact, there is not one thing on it that is easier than a regular iPod and I do not understand what the problem is with Apple that this is the case. It downloads easily, the movies are very clear and truly great to watch. I just wish they'd done something about the difficulty of the controls on this thing because it really does take away from the enjoyment I might get from it.
Customer Review: Beautiful product Summary: 5 Stars
I will admit that I had purposefully stayed away from Apple products for many years. I have always felt they were over-priced and did not provide enough value. However, this viewpoint changed when a friend of mine let me play around on his iPod touch. In the past I have owned several Creative Zen MP3 players, and felt they were quality products. Before the release of the iPod touch, I felt that the Creative players easily provided more value than the original iPods. However, the internet capabilities of the iPod touch have moved the iPod into another realm. Calling the iPod touch an MP3 is quite unfair as the music capability of this iPod is just the beginning. Having full internet access (providing you're within a WIFI zone) transforms this MP3 player into a small laptop. It really handles everything, from checking email to finding nearby gas stations. The app store is far superior to any other competitor on the market as the Apple phrase "there's an app for that" really does apply in almost every situation. Coming from someone who has been strongly against Apple in the past, I can assure you that you will not be disappointed with the vast capabilities of the iPod touch.
****UPDATE****
Have been using this iPod Touch for several months now and am still amazed. It is truly incredible how much one small device can do.
Customer Review: Wifi doesn't work that well on the iPod touch... Summary: 2 Stars
I'm going to be as honest as possible...I love Apple, I've had iPods in the past, and have 2 mac computers. However I think the iPod touch (really the iPhone, minus the phone) is useless when it comes to everything other than a music player. My main issue with it, is it's NOT meant for wifi really. I've tried a number of times to get connections while "on the go" and it's pretty tough to sometimes impossible. Think about it...this isn't a phone where you have a network following you everywhere... your wifi capabilities depend on what connections you randomly pick up (and that's IF it doesn't have a password). So unless you are in a Starbucks where you know you have wifi capabilities, or your own home (where you might as well just use your computer) this is pretty useless and annoying. You can't use its basic apps like weather, maps, safari, youtube, stock and mail.... all you have is a music/video player..and a calendar. That's it. If you were walking around NYC, and you can't remember the address for something..unless you can pick up someones signal, the maps app on there is about as useless as you are.
As a player though - it works fine and I have no issues with it. I honestly think this was a cop-out by Apple to make the iPod touch just like the iPhone even though you can't do half as much as the iPhone.
