Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple iPod touch 16 GB (1st Generation) OLD MODEL

Customer Review: Great toy, but so-so pda
Summary: 3 Stars

I expected better PDA functionality, so returned it. I'm coming from a Palm Treo650 (PC for backup only), looking to upgrade. Will probably order a Palm Treo Pro. Maybe in the future Apple will add needed features...

Pros:
- glitzy mp3/video covers, high fun factor!
- WiFi
- Touchscreen
- many good free apps available

Cons:
- no bluetooth
- no FM radio
- no voice recorder
- calendar limited in notifications, no color-coding, not as robust as Palm
- no task/todo list (add-on apps available)
- difficult to type accurately (I type a lot)
- difficult data conversion from Palm calendar/contacts/tasks (needs .csv or other generic format)
- synchs only to Outlook (on PC)
- MobileMe synchs only pc-to-ipod (no option for vice-versa or newest entry)
- iTunes (I like old-fashioned jazz etc, so Rhapsody works better for me)

Customer Review: Best iPod I've Ever Owned!
Summary: 5 Stars

THe iPod Touch is the best iPod I've ever owned. Apple really has created a phenomenal device in the Touch. Now with the firmware 2.0 available, and being able to tap into the App Store, it makes life even more exciting.. Even with this touch now being outdated, with the firmware updates Apple continues to put out, it makes it seem like a nice device every time.

The one complaint I'd have it typical of most iPods. The back can be scratched easily. I picked up an Invisible Shield to protect it, which helped a lot. Still looks brand new, and that's the way I'd like it.

In the end, however, I realized, as fantastic as the device was, why did I want to carry around a cell phone AND an iPod? In the end, I sold my touch, and picked up an iPhone. It's brought my life to a whole new level to have everything all in one device. Among the best purchases I've ever made.

Customer Review: I'm On My Third IPod Touch
Summary: 2 Stars

I was given an IPod touch as a gift last fall when they first came out. At first I used it only for music then I started purchasing TV shows from ITunes. Television episodes, music and movies on the "touch" pixelated in the middle of watching/listening and threw me back to the home screen. The onscreen controls were not responsive so I couldn't get back to the spot where the skip happened. I sent my IPod in for service and it came back saying "we couldn't replicate the problem". As soon as I tried it the behavior started again. I exchanged my engraved gift for a refurbished unit at the Apple Store and it had the same problem. I went back again yesterday and they gave me a brand new unit. So I'm on my third "touch" since last fall and if you check Apple's forums you'll see this is a common problem. I just can't recommend this neat little player until they fix the problem.

Customer Review: Obsolete even before it arrives
Summary: 2 Stars

As other reviewers have noted, this is a beautifully designed, sleek, highly functional product.

However, as noted in the fine-print above and on Apple's website, the iPod Touch is being sold with firmware (1.1.5) that was replaced by a new version (2.0) two months ago.

Mine arrived 12 hours ago, and instead of enjoying it, I have spent much of that time on the phone with Apple trying to understand how I can buy a brand-new product and receive one WITH OBSOLETE FIRMWARE and then be asked to pay an additional $10 to "upgrade" to the firmware that was released two months before I bought the product.

I find this entirely unacceptable and unprecedented, and it has fully tarnished the image of Apple Inc in my mind.

So for $10, instead of feeling good about my new iPod, I am feeling bitter about the obnoxious company that sold it.

Customer Review: The iPhone without the phone -- almost
Summary: 4 Stars

I owned an iPhone last year, but was forced to sell it after only a few months, since I couldn't get any "bars" anywhere I went from AT&T. I loved all the features of the phone, with the exception of the fact that I couldn't make or receive calls! So when the iPod Touch came out, I was excited to see that it was everything that I loved about the iPhone -- almost. It syncs with my PC so that I can carry my Outlook calendar and contacts with me, it has lots of storage spaced for music, it gets great wireless connectivity with the internet -- but no camera and no speakers! If Apple would include the camera and external speakers, you'd have it all. I do enjoy all the apps you can download from Apple's app store, and it's great for playing video games -- so all in all, I'd say it was a worthy purchase. To improve the device, though... well - you know what I think. Thanks!
