This was my first iPod and first Apple product. It was a great product. This thing was great for me, as I had less than a gigabyte of music. When my music collection expanded, I moved up to a video iPod, but this thing helped me get started. The shuffle algorithm seemed to be much better than it is now.
One of the best features of this device was its durability. I kept it in my pocket with my keys for a year, and this thing held up just fine. I dropped it innumerable times, but it had so little mass, it didn't matter. This thing even ran though the wash once and continued to work. The lack of screen really made it a great product.
Charging was easy, and battery life was very good. Syncing was fast with USB, and controls were about as good as I could ask for. This was a great device.
