Customer Review: iPod Shuffle 1GB (2nd Gen) - The iPod for non-iPod users

The Shuffle might be the poor man's music player these days, but it does a fine job of what it sets out to do. Once you have iTunes (free downloadable Apple software) on your computer, putting music on your iPod is as simple as dragging and dropping files into the iPod's playlist. The device sports 1 gigabyte of storage, which is still enough for hours of music. When you want to listen to some music, you just pop in the earbuds, turn on the power, and hit play. The Shuffle is durable and small enough to put in a pocket, and the controls are so simple you will probably not even have to look at the iPod to use them.
The main downside is the inability to navigate through your music files to select a specific artist or song. The player can either go through your playlist top to bottom or "shuffle" it and play songs randomly. You can skip or go back through the list, but that's it. So the Shuffle works great when you just want to have a soundtrack playing in the background, not so great when you want a friend to hear this new song you just downloaded on to it.
Overall, it's a very solid and functional package for the price, and like most of Apple's products, it looks somewhat cool and stylish.

I just got my iPod Shuffle about a week ago, and I'm absolutely thrilled with the purchase. I have a 30g iPod video that I never took running with me - it's just too expensive to risk breaking or losing and I hate wearing the armbands. When Apple dropped the price it was the first time I seriously thought about getting a Shuffle for exercising, and I'm so glad I did.
2 GB is a wonderful size, I only have 60 songs on my running playlist right now, picking and choosing from my 3500 song library. I know I can add more than 400 more songs, but honestly I'm not sure I ever will! The size of the Shuffle itself is great, I clip it onto my jacket or shirt and completely forget it's there, it is so light.
I got my Shuffle in green and I love the color, it is beautiful and I don't think I'll ever get tired of it.
The sound is my only issue, it is great in almost every aspect but the bass could definitely be pumped up. If anyone knows a way to turn up the bass on a Shuffle, could you leave it in the comments?
Overall I love this MP3 player as a compliment to my iPod video, and the perfect running accessory!

This iPod Shuffle is my second iPod so there were no surprises in the box.
With my massive 160GB iPod Classic I bring all my music with me everywhere I go. I listen to it all day everyday at work. Yesterday I was grooving to Reggae while snowblowing the driveway. Sometimes the iPod Classic is too big and kind of in the way. The iPod Shuffle is the perfect answer to this "little" problem. Though limited by the 1GB size, I can fill it and empty and refill it at will. I find the small size ideal for the Gym. Low profile and light weight design makes it ideal to clip to my tshirt for lifting or cardio. Never in the way but always present - this thing rocks (and reggae's too).
I picked the green color and was happy to find the color depicted on Amazon.com to be right on the money. Speaking of money, I found this Shuffle cheaper here online than advertised at my local bigbox exectronics stores. For those of you who seek instant gratification; My Shuffle showed up at my house so quickly, it's hardly worth the trip to the mall. 2 days.

I bought the 1 GB iPod Shuffle to listen to podcasts or music while I'm working around house and garden. I like to listen to music or talk radio while I'm working, but because I'm always on the go, I don't like to carry a radio with me. I often lose reception; the radio is heavy or in the way; the batteries die too soon; and the sound quality of small portable radios is lousy.
With the Shuffle being about the size of a postage stamp, having a clip, and weighing next to nothing, I can attach it to my shirt or belt and keep working while I listen to my favorite show or music and the sound quality is awesome. I can listen to hours worth of podcasts and/or music because not only will that tiny little thing hold so much entertainment, but the rechargeable battery will last up to 12 hours! A lot longer than I'll be working in the garden.

I was very satisfied with Amazon as a seller, but very disappointed with Apple's I-Pod Shuffle. At best, the instructions were mediocre. It worked fine when I loaded it with my first selection of music - sound quality was very good. The next day when I tried to load a new playlist, indications were that it loaded onto the Shuffle, but I could not get it to play music after that. I followed the online troubeshooting steps a few times without success. I returned the item to Amazon, following their excellent instructions, and my credit was confirmed. A week later I received a very similar MP3 player as a free gift from an office supplier. It is almost identical to the I-Pod Shuffle, the instructions were worse, but e-mail tech support was available and with a few small hurdles, it is perfoming very well. Apple, as well as other companies should be sure that the staff who write instructions understand the product thoroughly and also have a superb command of written English language.
