Customer Review: Its also a good Video player
Summary: 5 Stars

I was needing a portable video player and was looking at everything,
I narrowed it down to ether this or the Creative ZEN.

I was using a PDA to play videos, and was also using my phone,
but my PDA died, a cheap no name car charger killed it, and
was left only using my phone, that was OK, but then I had to
wait in a doctors office for most of the day and I drained
the battery down to nothing and was unable to use the phone
when I needed it.

I needed something easy to use, well made, well supported,
and easy to find accessories for, and this is it.

I had overlooked getting an iPod out of fears that I would be unable
to use any of my own files, like my MP3s and video files, but it
works just fine with them, but no cover art, but I have herd you can
add you own.

I am able to use my MP3s with no problems, and use the same MP4 video
files that played on my phone and PDA, without any re-conversion

I am using "Super" a freeware video encoder, seams to work well, and
various other programs for DVDs and CDs,

I had herd of problems with the Cover Flow, and the accelerometer
but they seam to have been fixed, and you can now turn off Cover Flow,

I think my only real gripe is the shape and size, its so small and
its odd shape makes it a little hard to hold in my hands, it feels
like any second its going to fall.

The only other thing I dislike is cables and cords getting tangled
up, I am planing on getting retractable headphones and a
retractable usb cable for it

Something I thought I should add, is that using it for a video player
is made even better by the fact that you can get free video podcasts,
most are short, but some are entire shows, don't get to excited, most
of the long shows are news shows, but when your sitting waiting or
taking a break its not bad

Other players may offer a few more features, but with podcasts,
ease of use, available accessories, and build quality, I think this
is the better unit

Customer Review: I would not buy this again.

I decided to try this 4th Generation as my first Ipod after wanting a change from my Zune. Knowing what I know now, I wish I'd never spent the money. People always rave about Ipods, and I have no idea why! I am coming from the perspective of having owned another top MP3 player for (the Zune) for about 3 years, from owning a Sony Jukebox for about 2yrs, and from having owned this Ipod since its release. I can honestly tell you that this thing is usually a pain to use, and it's not worth it's weight to me. I wanted something efficient, quick, and with no hassle. This Ipod gives me hassle, mostly because of the annoying "Shake to shuffle" feature. I'm not sure if you can deactivate this (you probably can), but for my particular model, the shake is messed up. It sometimes shuffles upon the weakest little movement, like me lightly setting it into my purse, and sometimes it refuses to shuffle at all (I've noticed this usually applies to an individual song... switch the song, and then the shuffle might work. Whatever.) The software was also very annoying for me. Like I said, this is my first Ipod, and I was turned off by the slow software compared to the Zune's. I don't like how you have to "eject" your Ipod from your computer (if I forget to press Eject, I experience freezing or other problems). This is the first MP3 program that's required me to do anything of the sort, so I don't see why it's necessary. This Ipod has frozen on me twice already in a way that required complete resetting of the system. Sometimes the volume goes out of control on me.

I don't know, maybe I have a faulty model, but it's enough to make me look down on Ipods from now on. I'm giving it 2 stars because it's very light and compact, and MOST days it does play completely fine.

Like others that have recently gotten the IPOD Nano 4th Generation. I understand the grief over the previous IPOD accessories that are no longer compatible. I received my IPOD Nano (hot pink) for Christmas only because my 3rd Gen. Nano (hot pink) cr*pped out on me. (the screen went out in only 2 years of owning. Never dropped, not left in a hot car or anything like that) Anywho.... I received in December due to holiday and since then my Nano has been playing my music like skipped CD's. It cuts the song off 1/2 way through, skips through the songs, cuts off the ending of the song. None of my music is pirated. They all came from CDs (which I got rid of before I moved) or through ITunes. It is completely random on which songs it will do it to during play and I've returned the IPOD to factory settings with the same results. All songs worked splendidly on my 3rd generation and continue to work just fine in ITUNES. I also don't appreciate the shake to change feature which becomes super annoying if you're jogging and forgot to turn it off. It only works when it wants to. Also, it doesn't help that the only thing I can charge my Nano on is my computer. 1/2 the time I'm not home to keep tabs on it. It's an okay product, but I'd rather stick with the 3rd generation. Now I've got a Nano I can't rely on until I get another one which might end up being 'refurbished' from the factory. And my IPOD IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY! Apple needs to get it together and send a product that will be reliable and compatible with the previous accessories that were available, if not, at least put it within the marketing plan (which that probably won't happen)

Customer Review: Intriguing but Overly Complicated
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my first Ipod product ever. My old 512 MB MP3 player got washed and ruined so I had to get something new. I decided to go with this since it has video capabilities that will allow me to study languages on the go.

The Nano comes in a really cute case. I love its size and shape. Upon taking it out of the box I was surprised at its size (yes, I can read the dimensions and weight online, but actually seeing/feeling them is something else). I turned it on and it came to the choose an language screen. I had some issues with the click wheel as I had never used one before. My Nano ended up in Chinese so I had to figure out how to reload it from the start.

When I got it working, and ready to put media on, I hit the first negative to the Ipod--ITunes. I hate it. I install it and it wants a credit card, which i refuse to provide and it finally installs. It starts up and is sloooow. I have a 100 Mbps internet connection so there is no reason for this. I also find it far from intuitive and very much miss my old drag and drop method of putting files on Mp3 player. I have a feeling that ITunes is the evil of the Nano's requirements.

As for the Nano, I like its capabilities. Videos, music, everything runs great, once it is on the thing. The games are a nice addition as well--the accelerometer is awesome and adds a nice touch to the games.

Overall, if you just want an mp3 player for the music, look elsewhere. If you want one with video and games and can deal with ITunes, you will enjoy this product.

Customer Review: Super lightweight! Beautiful color choices
Summary: 5 Stars

The IPOD I chose is the 8gb; I am quite sure I can fill it up, as it will hold 2,000 songs. As for pictures, I don't need to do that. But I certainly want to experiment with videos. I don't use it for Podcasts or books. To me, an IPOD is strictly for music!

I chose the beautiful blue and ultra thin Ipod. It is light in weight. Easy to store in the pocket for walking. What I experiences most is that the music seemed to remain at a constant acceptable level than my older IPOD. The 2 inch screen is a nice size. I can view the CD covers well enough. However, I don't seem to get enough screen size for any games.

Especially important is viewing the CD images in varying formats, like CoverFlow which lets the images flow through the screen. You can turn the Ipod sideways and view the images. And what I really like is the Song List has the song title and the artist, rather than my older one with just the song title.

A new feature to me is the Shake to Shuffle. Although I haven't had enough experience, I doubt that I will use it much. The off/on/lock button at the top is quite small and thin, making it difficult to ensure locking it. You need to get a good grasp of it. Enjoyable! ....... Rizzo
