Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple iPod nano 8 GB Black (4th Generation) [Previous Model]Customer Review: Can't put the down the volume as much as I want. Summary: 2 Stars
Yesterday I bought an iPod 4th generation. I was very happy with my old iPod but sadly it broke. Anyway, after I was happy with my new 4th generation iPod I wanted to fall asleep and listen to some songs. Here I got my problem. If I put the volume of hte ipod down the music is still very loud. Too loud to fall asleep with.
I called the support hotline and they said it was a hardware problem. So the next day I went to the store any brought the iPod back. They gave me a new one. As soon as I put new songs on there I realized that it had the same problem. I walked back to the store to get my money back. I didn't want to have a another one from that store.
After I walked to another store to buy my iPod there I figured out that it also had the problem and that I also couldn't put down the volume there almost all the way.
I called the support. What they said now was that this was no bug/error but a feature.
I'm very disappointed. My iPod I could put on the volume I wanted. Why does Apple those things to it's customers? I hope that they are going to come up with a software update that resolves the problem.
In the last days I brought THREE iPods home. The employees at the store also believed it that to be a bug/error. After I brought them the second iPod back they even thought about contacting Apple to tell them that they got a whole series of broken iPods.
Customer Review: GREAT MUSIC DEVICE Summary: 3 Stars
This is an ok portable media player. I was amazed by how good the sound quality was, the low price, and the amount of content you can put on it. however the reason I didn't give it 5 stars was 1. the screen size (why they couldn't have made it even just 1/2 inch bigger I don't know). 2. the battery life (music wise it's great, but video drains it quick, I had to buy a portable battery charger that ran on 2 AA batteries cause I was going on a trip). 3. not sure if I got a lemon but mine keeps getting some technical problems (for instance the other day all my podcasts just vanished off of the device, every once in a while it freezes up and I have to hold in the menu and select buttons to get it unfroze, and when I put some songs on it they showed up under the cover art of a different band in cover flow mode). This device is ok overall, but if you want a better device and you have the extra money I'd go for either the iPod Touch (it has a lot more features (like the apps), a way bigger screen, and wi-fi capabilities) or better yet the iPhone (it has all the stuff the iPod touch has plus 3g internet anywhere (so all of your apps work anywhere) it's a phone, and it has a camera so you can take pictures and video).
I hope this review helps you.
Customer Review: Wish I hadn't sold the older model... Summary: 2 Stars
I hate the new model, essentially because of two things: the extremely short battery life, compared to the previous iPod Nano, and the compatibility issues with the charging.
The short battery life is something I expected of this generation, since they included video and a larger screen, which are both great pros for this iPod, and make the short battery life livable with.
However, taking away the compatibility to charge with non-Apple products is unnecessary and disrespectful to clients. I rarely plug in my iPod to the computer - I only do so when I have to add new music. I use my iPod mostly with other devices which have charging capabilities - like the Griffin RoadTrip, the JBL speakers and the iHome - none of which can charge my iPod, making it very inconvenient for me to recharge it, specially when the iPod dies in my car because RoadTrip can't charge it and I'm forced to listen to the crappy radio. We already buy your damn ipods, which are essentially the same as every other goddamned mp3 player out there, but you force us to get rid of our now obsolete systems so we can buy your crap. Damn I do hope your market share goes way down.
Customer Review: Great Summary: 5 Stars
The iPod Nano 4G 8Gb is my first iPod. I am well behind the power curve in music players.
My reason for acquiring one is that I just bought a new Trailblazer SS with the GM factory navigation system which MUST have the navigation CD in the player. So no CD based music with the system running.
Rather than spending a fortune for an after market CD changer the iPod with a Monster iCarPlay wireless plus gives you all the music you will need for just over $200 with shipping.
The 8Gb sure looks as if it will hold all the music and audio books you will want for the longest trip. But, the 16Gb model is not a huge increase in price.
Boy, talk about tiny. Sounds great, simple to use and loaded with features. The screen quality is amazing. This makes the Nano 4G a perfect photo album to show pictures to folks you meet along the way as well as relatives. And it attaches to a TV to display your photos.
One thing to check when buying accessories is to make sure they work with the 4G.
For example, the Monster FM system does NOT charge the 4G iPod.
Customer Review: Warning! Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased a purple 8g 4th gen nano for Christmas. After using it for three months, the backlight would turn off and not come back on. This happened on and off for a month or so and now it is permanently off and will not come back on. After researching, many people have this backlight problem with the nano (and yes, I've restarted, reset, checked settings over and over). Apple's solution is either to mail it to them for months for repair, or take it into your local Apple store for repair. (However if you live in Utah there is only one Apple store and it is closed for the next MONTH for construction). So the iPod has become a useless training tool for upcoming races I have planned. I spent $150 for this piece of crap and am being jerked around by Apple who know full well they produced a shoddy product. Sure I can still listen to music if I can get in enough light to see what I'm choosing. But the games and video are completely useless. In addition to all of this, the iPod no longer charges in my car or on my iHome player. POOR QUALITY CONTROL AND CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM APPLE.
