Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple iPod nano 8 GB Black (3rd Generation) OLD MODEL

Customer Review: Really a Great iPod
Summary: 5 Stars

First of all, I HIGHLY recommend someone getting this. Its cheaper than the old 8GB nano AND has video playback.

Most of the doubts people have before buying the new nano is how it feels to watch full length movies on it. Well I would say it doesn't really bother you at all. In fact, I like it better than watching a DVD at home. The only downside to the video is it only lets you watch it for about 4 hrs.

The audio is great as usually expected from an iPod. Your music is really easy to organize in iTunes and the earphones included are pretty good. If you want to maximize sound quality get better earphones.

There are a few downsides, but they are quite minor compared to everything else:
-The click-wheel is a little smaller, but it still does its job.
-The back scratches REALLY easily. If you don't want to get it scratched, buy a case that protects the back.
-Battery for watching video is only 4 hours.
-Have to charge with a computer unless you buy the other power cable

All in all the 3rd generation iPod Nano is a great music and video cable, but if you want to make it excellent, you will have to buy some accessories.

Customer Review: Made the right decision
Summary: 5 Stars

I was disappointed with the 2 "cheaper" Mp3 players I had previously purchased. So I decided to try the IPod Nano 3rd gen 8GB after some research on the web. Happy to say I made the right decision! To be able to play videos, podcasts, audible files and music is amazing. Cover flow is great too. Several of my albums did not have album art on iTunes so I just searched for the album online and copy and pasted the picture to iTunes- Viola! In fact I changed some of my own album covers to a picture I liked better- just by copying and pasting it into iTunes.

Couple of tips- you might want to check out the website called "ilounge" since it has TONS of information about iPods. They recommend installing iTunes while waiting for your iPod to arrive. This is what I did and it was very helpful to learn how iTunes works before I received my iPod. I also was able to add my CD music collection, download podcasts, add videos and have this all ready and waiting for when I received my iPod.

By chance I had an extra plastic badge cover ( a work ID badge cover -the vertical type with the loop on the top) and my iPod nano fit into this clear plastic sleeve perfectly.

Customer Review: A Great iPod for Someone With a Medium Sized Music Collection
Summary: 4 Stars

The 3rd Generation iPod Nano is my third iPod--my first one was a 4G iPod Classic (20GB) and then I got a 2G 2GB iPod shuffle. I have had the 3G iPod Nano for about a year and I love it--I recently got an iPhone 3G but I'm still carrying around my Nano because it does one thing really well--it is an excellent mp3 player. The Nano is small, lightweight, and easy to hold in my hand. It is not too bulky to slip into my pocket on the go like my iPhone or my previous iPod classic is. It's also nice that it has a screen (unlike the shuffle) which makes it easier to select music to listen to. And it's perfect for someone with a medium sized music collection like me--I can still carry around most of my music without having to worry about running out of space.

I would not recommend the Nano for video viewing or games, because its screen is very small and hard to see. I don't find the click wheel a very satisfying controller for games--the touch screen on an iPod Touch or and iPhone is much more satisfying. But as a music player the Nano is great--I hope to be carrying mine well into the future.

Customer Review: Forget video, it's an overpriced mp3 player
Summary: 2 Stars

I'd give player 4 stars for it's audio abilities and 0 for video, that's how I came up with average score of 2.
The reason I gave 0 for video is because I couldn't play any of the video files I could find on my computer. Not the mpeg2 files I ripped from DVD, not the Avi files I downloaded from Internet, not Windows WMV files, not even Apple's own MOV format as recorded by my digital camera... Even when I used 3rd party software to convert videos to supposedly recognizable format, I still couldn't load them to Ipod.
The curious thing is that MOV files, at least I was able to load in Itunes... but then it failed to sync them with Ipod anyway.

As for Audio abilities... I certainly like Apple design and ease of navigation. Unfortunately excellent hardware design is marred by inferior software. Unlike with any other mp3 player, I've previously own - I can't just drag and drop content from Explorer. Instead I am forced to use annoying Itunes software that keeps prodding me to shop at Itunes online store. What's up Apple, haven't I paid you already enough?

Customer Review: 3rd Generation Nano Freezes often (similar to the 2nd generation)
Summary: 2 Stars

I own a video iPod, and have owned previous generation iPods, all of which I have found to be excellent products. I just recently purchased my first Nano (the new 3rd generation) and love the looks, size, functions etc.- a potential excellent product. However, I noticed that my new Nano often completely freezes up; always after syncing; sometimes while charging; and sometimes while just changing songs, going to the menu, etc. The only way I found to unfreeze the player is to do a hard reset. This is quite an inconvenience and totally unacceptable. I thought maybe I had bought a lemon and would simply return the product for a working replacement. However, after some research, I have learned that this was and is a common problem with the 2nd generation Nano. I haven't found much information regarding this issue from others who purchased the 3rd generation - most likely because it was just released a week ago. I plan to return the product and wait until the problem has been corrected. Once this is done, I will only have wonderful things to say about the 3rd generation Nano.
