Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple iPod nano 8 GB Black (3rd Generation) OLD MODELCustomer Review: Nano fine, shipping not Summary: 1 Stars
I ordered an iPod Nano for use on a vacation I am leaving on tomorrow morning. I placed the order early on 4/2 with two day shipping expecting - as the message on the order page promised - that it would arrive on 4/4. The item I ordered with it was delivered on 4/3, so I expected no problems. However, when the item showed as shipped (not until 4/3) the expected delivery date was 4/8. I didn't worry because my experience is that given that I live in NYC, these dates are almost always bettered. Well, it is now 4/7, 4 days after my order and the item, after a call to UPS and 2 to Amazon will not be delivered until tomorrow - afer I have left on my vacation! It turns out that the Nano was mistakenly shipped with UPS ground, so even though it could easily have been delivered on time, it won't be. It was UPS who pointed this out to me (and it shows this clearly on the tracking page), not the Amazon customer service reps who said it was UPS's fault. The reason I ordered this item from Amazon was my confidence that the item would be delivered on time. I have now unfortunately lost that confidence in Amazon. While my 2-day shipping fee was refunded, the use of the item is not. So, I must go buy a Nano at a store and return the Amazon one, further inconveniencing me with a trip to the post office. I am sure, once I get it I will enjoy the Nano. Unfortunately, it will suffer from Amazzon's shipping snafu.
Customer Review: Love the iPod nano Summary: 5 Stars
My kids had iPods and recommended getting one, I always said no, who needs one, and besides when would I listen to it? I'm too busy. Then I started commuting weekly between two cities on bus/train, and had 4-5 hour time blocks to fill. Plus I exercise daily. So I got the iPod and love it. I get to hear MY music, no commercials. I love the shuffle aspect within genre, so I can have the iPod play constant Jazz or Country or Latin music, whatever I'm in the mood for, but randomly choose from different albums and artists within the genre. For Classical music, of course, it's better to listen to a piece as a whole, in order, so I use the non-shuffle setting for that.
Using the iTunes on my computer has been an unexpected benefit because I now use this at work, I never had used music before on my computer, just occasional online radio stations. I love listening to classical music as I work alone, particularly when working in situations where I won't be interrupted and need to concentrate on my work.
We got a cover set to protect the iPod; the set came with an armband to use while exercising. This has worked well and I recommend it. I also recommend buying an alternative set of earphones to use while exercising, as the ones that come with the iPod fall out of your ears. I use a set that is thin and light and wraps around the back of my head and clips/hangs over each ear.
Customer Review: Very Durable Summary: 5 Stars
This is my first review on any item I've gotten off of Amazon and I'm pleased it isn't going to be a bad one. I have wanted to buy an eight gigabyte iPod for a while now, but I couldn't justify spending the money on something I already had. I had the 4GB version of this model for a few years now and I really liked it (It is very easy to use). Unfortunately I lost it. I wasn't too worried because I figured it'd turn up. It did. A week later it turned up on the road in a pile of melting snow. It was frozen, soaked through, had dirt in it, and appeared to have been run over. I washed it off in the sink to get the dirt off figuring a little more water won't kill it. I let it sit for a few days but it still wouldn't work. So I bought the 8GB version of it. When the 8GB version came in I started playing around with the 4GB one again. I had to play around with the charger port to get the charger to fit back in. (I'm stubborn >>) Luckily there was very little damage to the charger (It was dented in...It was the only indication that it got ran over). I hooked it up to the charger and it worked.
The 4GB iPod got ran over, soaked and it still works almost as well as beforehand. It makes me wish I didn't jump the gun and buy the 8GB...but the moral of this story is that this type of iPod is VERY durable. It can take a beating and still be usable. It is definately worth the money.
Customer Review: Another success Summary: 5 Stars
Apple continues to blow away other manufacturers' media players with substantial, steady improvements to what are already great products. If you're an iPod fan already, you can be smug in the knowledge that this one sets the bar just that much higher.
The 2-inch, 320 x 240 screen of the new Nano, when it's sitting on my airline tray table, turns out to be about the same angular size as my TV when I watch it from my sofa at home. Cool! The picture quality is gorgeous, reminiscent of an iPhone.
The new Nano features a 24-hour battery life when used as a music player, and a 5-hour battery life when watching video, so you can watch at least a couple of full-length movies on a full charge. This is slightly shorter than the battery life on my 80GB (5th Gen.) video iPod, but it's a smaller unit, with a smaller battery. Makes sense.
The new split-screen operating system is slick. Now you can view all the details about a track in one glance, instead of waiting for the information to slowly scrawl past you.
As a gadget nut, and a fan of good design wherever I find it, I'm constantly impressed with the attention to detail evident in Apple's multimedia devices. The new Nano lives up to its predecessors nicely.
My older iPods are getting jealous. I think you'll love this thing.
Customer Review: Great for newcomers, could break the bank for current nano owners Summary: 4 Stars
Pros: The 3rd gen iPod nano is a great product, and once again, the smallest of its kind. It now supports video, allowing you to watch your favorite TV shows and movies on the go, and it has a bigger and brighter screen than its 1st and 2nd gen predecessors. Additional functionality is provided for Nike+ users who wish to use their nanos on the run.
Cons: While the upgraded version of the nano does have its perks, existing owners of 1st or 2nd gen nanos may be hesitant to upgrade. With a radically new design, this means all new accessories have to be purchased. As everyone knows, the cases still aren't immune to getting the occasional scratch, so you'll want some kind of protection. As a 2nd gen owner myself, this means a new case and new armband so I can take it along on runs. Apple continues to be forward-looking and inventive, but is it really worth the money to upgrade?
Overall, the new nano is a beautiful product, and it solves the issue for those who want to be able to watch video, but still aren't ready to shell out the big bucks for an iPod Touch. If you enjoy being active and don't mind compromising on hard drive space (or flash storage in this case), then the new nano is for you. Otherwise, why not spend a few more bucks and look at the iPod classic instead?
