Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple iPod nano 8 GB 5th Generation (Black)

Customer Review: "Not That Different From The Previous Generation of Nanos"
Summary: 4 Stars

The fifth generation of the Ipod Nanon has arrived, this time it brings the much talked about camera which can make videos and the mic allows sound. The camera works well and the videos look pretty good but it's just not placed in the best spot Other than the built-in camera the screen is noticeably bigger than it was with the 4rth generation of Nanos which is great. The pedometer is a nice new cool feature if you want to know how many steps you did in a day, not a must but if you walk to exercise this is could be useful. The new FM radio tuner is not for me as I don't like radio and rather like to listen to my own music but it is a cool feature. The way to organize music and playlists is even better now and the voice feature is neat, record memos so you don't forget something and it is used for other things as well.

Why only four stars? Well because it's not all that different from the previous nano, the camera is great but none of those features are really a must unless you want them. If you have the previous generation of the Nano like I had you might not feel the need to upgrade to this one. Unless you really want an Ipod that can take videos or you don't already have an Ipod I would probably not recommend it. The same thing goes if you just want a portable music player and don't really care about the other features. Was it worth for apple to release this new Nano? Of course it was as a lot of people will want an Ipod that can make videos so it seems reasonable to put his product out.

Customer Review: A great upgrade for the ipod nano lineup
Summary: 5 Stars

Sadly I've placed away my Zune, it was a great sturdy and reliable mp3 player for over 3 years. I'm not sure why but while in the Apple store I decided to just buy a new ipod. I had the original, 2 iphones, and a few nanos in the past so it was just going back to familiar territory. I picked up the nano in red, (go project red!) and i could not have been happier. It comes partially charged out of the box, so while there is no music to listen to, you can start recording videos right away. The video recording on this is very good, not HD good, but for an mp3 player its great! I took some video in low lighting inside of a restaurant and it looked just as good as my friends Flip recorder.

The screen size is perfect, I can watch quick videos or tv shows on the ride to work without straining the eyes. Adding the radio to the ipods was such a relief to see, its the main reason why I hung onto my Zune for the longest time. The sound quality was okay, I've heard better sound with prior ipods but I have a feeling I need to upgrade my headphones, I will update once I do so. The best thing is having a seamless program to upload my music with, I own a MacBook and trying to use Windows and the Zune software became a pain just to sync 3 songs. The Zune software is intuitive but very slow.

I'm once again a happy Apple customer so if you're in the market for a new mp3 player, I highly recommend this player. Remember to use your company discount :)

Customer Review: iPod nano holds its own vs. iPod touch
Summary: 5 Stars

I like the new iPod nano so much that I wrote an entire blog post about it. Just do a Google search on "The iPod nano: Still Relevant in 2010" (include the quotes in your search) to read my thoughts on when the iPod nano makes more sense than the iPod touch (and vice versa). It's unfortunately too long to reprint here.

Don't assume that you need to purchase your songs from iTunes, as there are actually many benefits to using the Amazon MP3 Store instead. Do a Google search on "tech blog: itunes store vs. amazon mp3 store" (include the quotes) to read why I recommend the Amazon MP3 Store over the iTunes Store (also too long to reprint here).

If you don't have time to read my full article on the iPod nano to help you decide between it and the iPod touch, then just really think about how you will use it. If it's a portable video game device you're looking for, go with the touch. But if it's a portable music player for running or skiing, go with the smaller nano. Ideally, get both! :-)

I have both an iPhone 3GS and a first generation iPod nano, and I still use my nano quite a bit, due to its size and weight. I bought the 5th generatio iPod nano for my son, and I am a bit jealous :-)

Customer Review: Its Pretty... Ok.
Summary: 2 Stars

Well, This Is My 5th Apple Product And I Was Satisfied Until This iPod Nano 5th Gen. Over All Its Ok. The Screen Clarity Is Superb & Couldnt Be Better. Apple Designers Must Have Spent Alot Of time Designing A Product With So Many Features Packed In It, And Still Manage To Keep The Device Almost "Paper Thin."

The Cons: The Battery Life Is Not Good At All. I Had To Return My Nano Because Of A Faulty Battery, And Still With The Screen Backlight Turned All The Way Down And The Backlight Timer Turned At 2Seconds, It Last Half A Day With Only Music Usage. It Says 24Hours But More Like 12-15. Also The Bottom Of The iPod When You Unplug The Cable From It It Pulls The Plastic Cover On The Bottom Of The iPod Off Some, My First iPod I Returned And The Current iPod It Did It To Both. It Will Probably Break Off With Use Later On. The Quality Of The Button Of The Click Wheel Seems Cheap And Gets Stuck In The Click Wheel When Pushing.

Apple Have Been Slacking Greatly When It Comes To Quality Control.

I Now Currently Returned Both My iPod 5th Gen Nano's And Purchased A Creative Zen X-Fi 2. Its Soo Much Better Even Though No Camera "Video Recorder"... Trust Me Its Not Cracked Up To What They Say.

Customer Review: It's tiny, but does so much.
Summary: 5 Stars

The iPod has come through many changes, and I think we have an MP3 that we can enjoy to the greatest extent (at least until the 6th Gen. comes out). The iPod is reliable, keeps you occupied, and is very compact.

I want to start first with just how the iPod is easy to use, and great to use. It can just download directly off your iTunes library and won't have any problems. The music gets there easily and you don't have to worry about glitches, unless your pirating things, pirates never have fun. The music will come out organized and in great quality, it amazes me.

The second greatest thing is that how stable and compact it is. If you put this in a case and drop it, it will survive. In fact, in my pig-headiness, I accidentally washed it. The only thing that happened was the screen turned white, but it still worked. Amazing. We're just about to ask Apple if they can fix the screen.

There might be a few "eh"s in there that kind of make it a little less quality, like shuffle, but these are easily switched off or ignored.

All together, this is a great product.
