Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple iPod nano 4 GB Silver (3rd Generation) OLD MODELCustomer Review: Mediocre Summary: 2 Stars
I've owned various iPods for 6 years now and am disappointed that they have not evolved. The Nano is small, and looks ok. I'll list the pros and cons:
Pros:
- Small, compact and rugged flash memory
- Integrates well with iTunes
Cons:
- At $150 (MSRP) for 4GB its overpriced
- 4GB is not enough
- Selective placement of "checked" music using iTunes, causes problems when trying to play multiple tracks in iTunes
- iTunes is buggy and very invasive software
- Must use with iTunes. Does not work with subscription music.
- Must sync with only one computer - very limiting
- Display and font size is too small to see clearly
After having used iTunes and iPods for 6 years, I tried Rhapsody subscription with a Sansa View, ibiza, my Sonos system and TiVo. I'm much happier with Rhapsody subscription. It streams seamlessly throughout my house and I can download onto multiple MP3 players from ANY computer! Bye bye iPods!
Customer Review: iPod Nano 3rd Gen. 4 GB Summary: 5 Stars
Let me just start off that this is a good MP3 player and or iPod. For only 140 dollars this is not a bad deal because one its way more nicer than a lot of other brands of MP3 players plus you have games and videos on it too and many other stuff too. It actullay comes with 3.63 gigabytes of music. Plus these are so easy to use all you do is downlad the latest version of iTunes if you dont have it and than simply open that up and than install your iPod and start dragging songs to the icon that says where the iPod is. If your using high quailty mp3 files it can hold about 1,000 songs if there in 128 KB's but if they are in lower quailty mp3 and some high quailty mp3 its about 2,000 songs. And for videos just download them off iTunes. Of course though if you want to get the most of your money maybe wait till the holiday season because there might be new iPod's coming out that are better but still this is a good deal. Its the perfect iPod for anyone whose starting out on iPod's

Customer Review: Impressed....until I tried to set it up Summary: 3 Stars
I was very impressed with the size of the nano, about the size of a credit card. I have also been impressed with the resolution on the screen, very clear. I am not at all impressed with how difficult it has been to set up. I have one of the earlier iPods, so I already had iTunes installed on my PC. When I tried to upgrade I got all kinds of error messages and ended up needing to uninstall and re-install iTunes. The next problem is that I cannot get the updater to work properly to update the iPod software. I have tried with both iPods and the computer indicates it is updating the iPod, but it just runs and runs like that for hours with no real action being taken. It now does this on both the old and new. My other complaint with the nano is that to add a few songs to the iPod is a time consuming task. It seems faster to sync the iPod completely. All in all we will enjoy having the music in tiny portable player, but some serious work needs to be put in to the software aspect.
Customer Review: ipod nano Summary: 5 Stars
As usual with Amazon, I am very satisfied with the communications and confirmations PRIOR to my orders. However, disappoint abounds with the service (or lack there of) of my POST order questions.
With this purchase I was to recieve 5 free mp3 downloads from Amazon. After many tries, I finally emailed Amazon and questioned if I needed a code or a special site to take advantange of this offer. I assumed, incorrectly, that a representative would research my order and simply send me the information in question-especially as I am a long time Amazon customer. Imagine my surprise when my reply instructed me to call Amazon to further research this. Although disappointed in having to go this route....I called and was unsuccessfull reaching a person. At this point I gave up and went to itunes. I think that if you are to make an offer, you need to respond to people who want to take advantage of it. This is not the customer service I am used to from Amazon.
Customer Review: Another - I Love It Summary: 5 Stars
I resisted for years buying an MP3 player, especially the I-Pod, because it seemed expensive and there were problems with the original versions. Broke down and got one after a co-worker whose opinion I trust gave the new nano-3G a good grade. I love it. It was so easy to set up and get running on my Windows XP AMD PC. I had already installed and used I-Tunes so it was up to date. I just plugged it in and go; the ease of setup is amazing. I am going to download the complete manual and get into it, but the startup guide that came with it was enough to get me going and listening to music in a few minutes. I also downloaded the new 1.1 level of software and let it install that, no problem. The sound quality is not awesome but very good. If there is one rub that I have the controls are a bit erratic, but hopefully that is just a learning curve issue, and so far not enough of a distraction to lessen my opinion (for what it is worth) of a very fine product.
