Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple iPod classic 80 GB Black (6th Generation) OLD MODELCustomer Review: Still great for Music and awesome storage space Summary: 5 Stars
I have 4 iPods including a 2G refurb I keep in my car. So obviously they work well for me. There are a number of solid alternatives to the iPod and depending upon your needs one of those could be better value. For the classic the screen is too small for video but that is true of most "video" players and cell phones. Overall the Apple iPod + iTunes experience can not be beat. It is an elegant seamless integration and experience. An often overlooked feature of getting an iPod is that there are tons of accessories to select from and that alone is compelling reason to go with an iPod. If video is must look elsewhere perhaps to the iPod touch (great screen and makes video actually an option) or one of the Archos options (better screen size and storage then the touch and some with video in option). If you need a voice recorder or fm tuner other options such as those from Creative might suit you better. These can be added to the iPod but only at additional costs. But the core - the simplicity, power of use, battery life and organizing and storing music, photo and video files the iPod is still the best. Don't get distracted by bells and whistles that really are not important to your core end user experience. Don't focus on marginal battery draining features like Zune's wifi unless you really think that those feature are important to you. If you are on a budget and are willing to forego Apples legendry and well deserved elegance, you can find a decent player for much less. If you have more specific needs add them to the vlaue equation and figure if the iPod + accessories is worth the extra cost to you. And if you want a great music player that simply works go with an iPod.

I don't know how many people actually have this and wrote the review but at least I have it. Here are my takes on it:
Good things about this device:
1. its new interface looks much better than the old generation ones. fonts are sharper, coverflow search is hip, and there are some subtle differences people will appreciate. For example, when you play iPod after certain seconds the screen goes black and it will serve as a watch. it tells you what time it is. it may not look like much, but you will appreciate it.
2. audio quality has improved and you will definitely notice the difference if you have listened to a lot of music. far less hiss on the background and the sound is just warmer.
3. enclosure is absolutely gorgeous. there is also some subtle difference that makes this iPod look far much better than the last gen iPods. plus it's a lot thinner than last gen's iPod as well.
now the bad things about it.
1. touch wheel response is almost unbearable. since Apple decided to manufacture touchwheels on their own it has been having very inconsistent responses. last gen iPod was too jumpy when you scroll so you would have difficulty being accurate. This iPod, on the other hand, does not respond well when you scroll. it will take you far more pressure and far more spinning to get to where you want to be.
2. there are some bugs that must be fixed too. it sorta happens randomly but sometimes you can't control the volume, and sometimes you can't scroll down within albums.
overall, this iPod is excellent. the top notch sound quality overcame some of the problems it had. recommended.
Customer Review: Applaude Apple... Summary: 5 Stars
This isn't going to be a report on the ipod. I did lots of research on what my next mp3 was going to be. I orginally had a creative player, 20GB, and it was great. Then, the screen got dusty...anywho, I spent maybe three or four months making sure that I found a product that I would like. I'm pretty sure that I read almost all of the ipod reviews and there are things that I agree on, and things that I don't. I read many complaints about the new cover flow feature. The people that are complaining are just to fast in their approach. In my experience, and its that only, if you just wait for all the albums to load on the screen, it will be fine its something that you get used to, and you never remember it again. I have had no problems with the click wheel, and nothing wrong with the menus. ONE of the main reasons I bought an ipod was because of the time and trouble it took for me to get songs onto my old player. (I thought that by having a different player would make it cooler). WRONG. The software was so hard to navigate, getting songs on was a hassle, and the player constantly froze. Ugh. Apple, on the other hand, has perfected its *essentially* drag and drop music, and I can not believe that I thought this was not as cool. It is so easy, and so simple. The only problem that I have had with the ipod is that I had imported to many CDs. Yes, this an operator error, but I'm sending out a warning to anyone who buys this product: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH ROOM ON YOUR COMPUTER!!! I had to transfer all my music to an external hard drive, and change where the songs would be stored, holy crap. The iPod Classic 80GB is a product that I would recommend to anyone, especially to you.
Customer Review: Works very well - A suitable update to the 5.5G Ipod Summary: 4 Stars
This is the second Ipod we have bought so that child number two could keep up with number one. But this is the 6th Generation Ipod "Classic" with 80 GB. This review will be short and is to be on the record as a satisfied Apple customer. We've had this version since Christmas 2007 and it has operated completely flawlessly. No issues with the selector ring, or anyhthing else.
As always, it is pretty spartan in the accessory department with the usual lousy "earbuds" - c'mon Steve, how about building some earphones like Shure does? Not a real big issue since most folks use other headphones or noise canceling phones when traveling. *This is the reason I still can't give it 5 stars*
Sound quality is good to very good. It sounds good through a large system via headphone output cable - I have not tried it with a sound dock although I would expect it to be better that way.
The combination of Ipod and Itunes continues to amaze me. It is surprising how all the other music download sites seem cumbersome and lame in comparison!
I can't speak to the video quality since it has not really been used for that. The screen seems nice and bright and in a pinch I guess it would be OK for short videos (YOUTUBE clips?)or pictures.
Of course, the Ipod has lost a little of its luster and WOW! factor after the introduction of the Iphone / Itouch...But if you have a lot of music and videos, you just can't beat the 80 GB capacity (or 160 GB for that matter!) that this version provides.
For the price, until flash memory price go down enough to have larger (adequate) capacity players, I will stick with the Ipod classic.
Customer Review: Love it, love it, love it Summary: 5 Stars
I have been an Ipod junkie since it's inception. I bought the 80gig because I have such a vast collection of music that I could no longer fit it it all on my 8. der. Anyways, I have had nothing but a great experience with my little bundle of joy. It's fast, music sounds great, no problems with movies, TV shows, videos, it's all good.
It did, however, lock up once due to accidentally dropping it, but after holding the center wheel down, it was just fine.
Movies, Videos, TV Shows, Podcasts: When I first downloaded a movie, I thought I would have problems viewing it, or the screen would be too small. But it was not only a perfect size, but the graphics were great. Videos, podcasts, shows, all good.
Games: I have no problems with games. Just be sure you read the compatibility requirements before you buy any games. Which they do tell you on Itunes.
Wheel is fast, almost too fast. But I chalk that up to user to Ipod malfunction.
The only thing I would have to complain about is the actual speed in which syncing is done. Sometimes fast, sometimes slow, but that actually has nothing to do with Ipod and merely the computer.
Someone wrote that they are having issues listening to their Ipod while charging. I would return it. There should be no issues with that unless it is syncing.
Overall, I am very pleased with my Ipod.
My son also has the same Ipod, and I have to say, it's pretty tough. I have had to buy him a metal case, but this kid has dropped his pod so many times, I am surprised it works as well as it does.
Kudos to Apple for making it thick skinned.
