Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple iPod 4 GB mini M9160LL/A (Silver) OLD MODELCustomer Review: best blend of value & performance Summary: 5 Stars
iPod family is all about style and usability. When you are buying this, you shouldn't focus too much on its capacity or price. If you are looking for big capacity or cheap price, there will be many others more suitable for you.
****charge it fully, 4+ hrs, before use. otherwise a lot of problems will occur and you will be in gadget hell****
the good:
1. light and small, travel friendly.
2. a perfect balance of capacity and price. why buy 20GB when you will never use that much? that would be like buying 10 pairs of shoes when you will only wear one. ok, a lot of you do that, ladies.
3. the headset is high quality, that's not true for most other mp3 players.
4. superb usability in hardware and software.
5. can hold your word documents and can hold your vacation photos if you get one of those belkin brdige thing.
the bad:
1. MUST BE FULLY CHARGD FIRST. you have been warned, TWICE.
2. not all that sturdy, it is made of hard drive, not flash memory, so it's easily broken if you drop it a few times. Handle with care. i.e. don't take it to workout.
3. less individuality since 1/2 of the population buy this, at least that's what I read in the magazine.
4. locks up when some users, I'm not familiar with that, but it seems that it happens to a few of them, but it's self-repairable.
Got it when checking price on WhoSave, also a good list of superior products:

I recommend it to you if you enjoy the better things in life and capable of taking care of delicate objects. have fun
Customer Review: Ipod Mini Summary: 4 Stars
[The Ipod Mini]- The image and design of the Ipod mini is everything that it is hyped up to be. Once you buy it, and hold it in your hands, the design will send a chill through your body. The software is easy to install on the PC and the MAC and navigation of songs and other features are simple to use in both Itunes and in the Ipod mini.[The main concern]- if you buy the Ipod would be the battery life. 8 Hours for the Ipod mini is a little short. If you play games, use the backlight or other functions, the battery life will wear out even faster. Leaving the Ipod mini off for a period of time will also drain the battery. In addition, the Ipod mini is slow to charge up. Although it takes 1 hour to charge it up to about 80%, it will take 4 hours to fully charge the mini. If you use your computer's firewire or usb cable to charge up the mini, it will take even longer, although I have not really been patient enough to see how long that takes, but whatever it is, its too long. The only way that your songs can be uploaded is through Itunes, and the Ipod mini does not play wma music files although you can easy convert those yourself with third party software. [A little tip]- Keep in mind that by default Itunes will automatically update your Ipod mini. It will be important to know that if you delete songs in your library, the next time you connect the Ipod mini to Itunes, the songs in your Ipod will be deleted automatically. If you don't want that to happen, you should definitely turn that feature off. There are also a lot of awesome accessories for the Ipod mini and you should definitely go check it out in Amazon's recommendations
Customer Review: Rockin' my face off Summary: 4 Stars
My wife gave this to me as a gift about 3 weeks ago and I love it. We had our Mini with us during a recent trip to Mexico, and it proved itself with wonderful sound quality, an admirable battery life, and great options. It was a great asset to have during a cumulative 10-12 hours of travel time.
The mini itself is easy to navigate and understand. She essentially told me how to work it, and the ease in which I have been able to use it has been wonderful. At first, I didn't think much of the 4GB amount of space, but it's been great for me as a person who never transports graphic or movie files.
I found the headphones they provided to be more than acceptable and the sound quality I've experienced has been great. At this point, I normally use my Mini while at a desk (while working) and (wonderfully) the mini never gets in the way of any of the work that I have to do. Even better, the mini isn't any sort of hindrance to my coworkers. If I were to ever work in the dark, I know that the beautiful blue hue of a lighted screen would work to light my way (used it on the plane).
My only discrepancies are minor - the Mini is seemingly easy to scratch. I looked at mine yesterday and noticed a few gashes in it whose origin I know not. Further, any sort of accessory for the device seems to be kind of pricey after you spend $250 on it.
The bottom line: This is a great toy to have, albeit expensive. Tons of options and features make for a wonderfully diverse product. Works as a well-received gift or a smart personal purchase. Don't be rough with it, travel a lot with it, and enjoy.
Customer Review: Beautifully designed and crafted, but overpriced Summary: 4 Stars
There is no doubt that this is a beautiful piece of workmanship. I have an Apple-obsessed friend that I have teased for years about his Apple fixation. So when I bought this secondhand beauty I emailed him my impression:
"Build quality and packaging are exceptional, truly first rate. Excellent tactility. Apple really has that part sorted out; I'm impressed.
Screen and CPU somewhat less magnificent."
Part of my teasing of this pleasant fellow was due to my experience with iTunes; I had given in to his constant evangelism about my trying it out. iTunes represented, for me, all that is wrong with software. Unjustifiably massive bloat, braindead 70MB updates, resource hogging, and treating the user like he has been lobotomized (or hypnotized by Apple). So no iTunes for me, no matter what. The solution?
"The OS is so-so and iTunes is the Root Of All Evil, so I installed
rockbox on it and am enjoying it immensely. I load
mp3/ogg/flac/whatever by copying across the USB connection.
(rockbox dot org)"
Rockbox lets me use that beautiful Apple hardware with an interface that puts /me/ in control. And I can play ogg, flac, Still, I find myself using the iPod less than a Sansa e260 that had an MSRP 3-4x less than the iPod. The Sansa has a color screen, better video playback (yes, you can play video on your mini with rockbox. It also has something that might seem trivial: a place to attach a lanyard.
Since I use the Sansa for mobile listening I might get one of those audio docks to use the iPod with my stereo system.
Customer Review: Apple does it again Summary: 5 Stars
The iPod mini is more than anyone hoped for. The miniscule size is amazing, allowing for it to fit into the smallest of pockets. The compactness was partially made possible by the combination of the buttons and touchwheel into a new touchwheel with buttons on it. This new method works quite well, except for the fact that sometimes you may inadvertently adjust the volume while trying to change the song. Another great new feature is the change in case material. The new metal is matte rather than shiny and consequentially is much more resistant to scratching, a problem many had with the original iPod. The gold and silver color schemes are quite nice, although the other colors have a pastel aspect to them, making the appeal slightly more to women (judging by popularity at the Apple store upon their release). The iPod mini also comes with 4 games, including the legendary and ever-appealing solitaire. The one detraction for some is that it holds a mere 4 GB (which Apple claims to represent 1000 songs). Because of this, I would recommend the iPod mini for those who either have small music collections (200-800 songs) or do not mind leaving most of their music at home.A few problems that I've had with the iPod mini are that it has reversed the order of my main playlist and the menu button also lost its functionality at one point. However, these problems should become less frequent as Apple releases software updates. Also, these problems are easily remedied by "restarting" the iPod (hold menu+select), which does not cause you to lose your songs or playlists.
