Customer Review: Fake Apple charger! - messed up my ipod touch
Summary: 1 Stars

Although I am very happy the company issued me a refund it doesn't make up for the fact that this item is marketed as an authentic Apple product which it is not. I would not mind if it wasn't a real apple charger IF the item actually worked. When I plugged in my brand new iPod touch with this device everything went on the fritz. Meaning if I touched the screen applications would open that I never touched and other parts of the screen would activate. Basically it would go crazy and not work at all while charging.
Then coincidentally after I started using it and did not yet find a replacement my ipod starting randomly shutting down for NO reason at all. This happened a lot of times and finally I went to the Apple store. They said they think it was because of the faulty charger. Luckily Apple exchanged my ipod touch for a new one but I strongly advice you just suck it up and spend the money for the charger and not try to save $ by buying this piece of garbage.

Customer Review: Not an Apple product - Fraudulent?
Summary: 3 Stars

The price should tell you that it's not an Apple product, and it isn't. However, I took a chance and bought two.
PRO: They are cheap, neat, work on 110 - 240v in case you go overseas, smaller than the Apple equivalent and they do charge my iPad.
CON: They provide only half the current (1A) of the genuine Apple USB charger (2A) meaning that it takes twice as long to charge an iPad but probably just the same time as Apple to charge your phones and players (if they have USB chargers.) They look and feel good but carry fake serial numbers (they all have the same number) so probably the UL and other certifications that they carry are fake too. Couple that with the fact that they are made in China (but so is Apple though under tight quality control) so the quality of the internal circuitry and its longevity and reliability must be unknowns.
In the end, you pays your money and you takes your choice. I'm keeping these.

Customer Review: my mistake ...
Summary: 3 Stars

Doesn't work on my Palm Treo 800W. I was trying to save a few bucks by not buying a Palm. I thought a USB power adapter is a USB power adapter. Well now I know not everything is created equal. I went to Apple store and compared it with the real thing. It looks authentic (shape, color, & green dot are same) but words are so blurry they're almost unreadable. It came in a recloseable poly bag, not in original packaging, but can't complain if it works for $14.

I noticed the vendor (thru Amazon) for this item keeps on changing. I was charged 95 cents sales tax, when I returned it I was only refunded 73 cents, but no big deal, thought it was interesting bookkeeping. Both sales tax charged & refunded were both incorrectly calculated. I understand how sales tax bookkeeping can be a burden for small businesses. No refund on shipping but I knew that already. I just don't want it cluttering my space if I can't use it.

Customer Review: Fake Apple Knockoff
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this from another site for my iphone 3g. This is a complete fake and fried my computer!

When plugging it into the computer, it didn't recognize the iPhone. Tried two different USB slots. There was a funny "plastic" burning smell coming from the computer or the cord.

After unplugging it, my computer froze, and I couldn't use control alt delete to reboot. I wound up shutting the computer down by holding the on button. The computer's fan never started. It's fried.

The item looks like one Apple sells but it's not.

As another reviewer posted, the serial number is 1x91029y459t and the words "designd" and "equipmnet" is misspelled. This is common on all the knockoffs.

DO NOT BUY. It will either fry your iPod, iphone and/or your computer.

But one directly from Apple. This will guarantee that you have a legitimate product.

Customer Review: Compact,quick charging
Summary: 4 Stars

This comes stock with the iPhone 3G, phone charges really fast. The only reason I docked a star is the prongs don't fold down.

A few things to note:

1) Why is this $35 on Amazon, and only $30 from Apple? More so, why is a freaking power adapter $30!!! Part of the answer might be...

2) Beware of after-market (used/ebay/etc) power adapters. There was a recall on these back in September. The new (replacement) ones have a small green dot on the side with the prongs. You can't just buy a cheapo off ebay and take it in for an exchange, because Apple requires the serial # from the phone.

3) Older dock chargers and wall warts don't work on the iPhone 3G (they changed the pin config around for the iPhone 3G) but I used my older iPOD USB cables and this wall wart adapter and the phone charged just fine.
